If they didn't have a budget for a proper season finale, why not just divert the funds for episode 8 to a supersized two hour episode seven that culminates with a 20 minute battle against Aemond and Vhagar? Rhaenyra has the dragons, she's kept her emotions about the death of her son in check - then was the time to duke it out and keave Vhagar wounded and Aemond fearful. Its a perfect reversal of last season. Sure, its 7 episodes instead of 8 or 10, but considering what we got, and how much less destructive the season is without it.... Wouldn't it have been better to end it like this? You even get to ahow Rhaenyra being extra cruel to Aemond by making him show, in the battle, just how much of a scared, bullied boy he actually is. Then, anything he does after is actually earned as part of his descent into madness and you get to set up mad rhaenyra in the process.... How do people not think this through before entering production?
your criston analysis was sooooo good. i can understand ppl hating rhaenyra opting for deterrence even after gaining the upper hand, but i don’t think it’s going against that messianic side of her but actually plays into it. rhaenyra is viserys’ daughter after all and she has tried so far to continue her father’s legacy (and jaehaerys similarly); thats why her change in s3 will be that much more devastating as she completely loses the plot. she truly believed that having the larger dragon force would be enough to force aemond & the greens into a surrender, because that’s how jaehaerys forced his enemies to his will, through deterrence only. which is funny bc we see immediately how pointless these cold-war like tactics utterly fail against an enraged & unhinged aemond. like rhaenyra wake up stop it no one is drinking your koolaid 😭😭😭 she’s out here thinking she’s god and corlys had to bring her back down like girl i need u to lock the fuck in right now 😭😭😭
