¿Is it true that these Vertical Axis Wind Turbines are more stable in high speed winds than horizontal turbines and safer for animals like birds and bats?
Do you think VAWT would be better solution on a Solar Power Electric boat since they do not cast much shadow over the solar panels? I was thinking of a better solution for charging the battery banks in the night by using Wind Power to supplement the solar power.
The question is what are willing to pay for 10 KWh VAWT? Do you want to use to replace wood for heating ? Or do you want a small 1kwh for ornamental purpose or for areating a pond ican custom build for a specific need depending on what you are willing to pay
Is it feasible to shield the side of the turbine that is moving against the wind direction with a cover that deflects the wind to reduce the drag on that side
Especially with the slipstream omni directional design. The angle of the blades creates lift but the air also slides through and up the blades as well. They're more compact and better in lower winds . Also safer. The oil industry is why they have not taken off yet.
Good question! This is due to the fact that "traditional" wind turbines face the wind and in that sense are able to catch much more of the energy potential. All blades are fully driven by the wind at the same time, while in VAWTs this is not the case.
Both have advantages and disadvantages.. The straight blade vertical designs are starting to become popular. Aluminium blades should have replaced fibreglass years ago.
Like all wind turbines, these have erratic, fluctuating output dependent on the wind which will cause dangerous brown outs and black outs. Wind is only viable if you include a 100% back-up power supply using reliable generation, typically fossil fuels or nuclear.
I would have liked an idea of how much less efficient they are, and an insight into why that is. Thanks though, it's a good intro.
Only VAWTs can brake the Betz limit...by 12% say the scientists.
Daerrius designs can reach 40% efficiency. Modern HAWTs can reach 50%. So max efficiency difference is 10%

If reliability is the problem, can you be more specific? Is it a common condition due to the design?

Pardon for stupid question. But why not putting the VAWT axis horizontal ??
My understanding is that they are quite good for off grid projects and also smaller; is this correct?
That is correct! VAWTS are also very appropriate for DYI projects.
No they can be developed to produce over 2 GW in a high wind.

Great video on Wind Turbines, thank you.
Cute pfp

Looks like that is what Vodafone have just done with theirs but they have tipped it on its side, so must be computer controlled to stay in the wind.
How big area and height is needed to go for a 5 to 10KW vertical wind energy? Where to get assistant?
Which software use for this type of video
They can't be less reliable, they have only 2 ball bearings, whereas the yawt version has more moving parts.
Yeh, I wonder how exactly they fail
How are they less efficient?
Because 1 of the 3 vertical blades slows the turbine all the time when it's rotating back against the wind direction
@@PfennigerDavid 2 blade is the answer to this.
They use lift? Cool, but still don't really get it. But this has been the closest I get to understanding VAWTs. Thanks Man
They use lift to put less friction on the motor and the bearings im assuming
Why less reliable?
This is a myth.

My works too. Used Avasva handbooks and build it with no problems.

Aluminium blades should have replaced fibreglass years ago.
Agree. Or stainless steel as that stuff is so simple to manufacturer and unlike aluminium it doesn't corrode meaning less drag.
We're actually looking into this and might do a video on it in the future.
Give Details of the unit and cost,
Thanks a ton man.
How can it be still in development? The Persians used it 3000 years ago. What is there to develop?
What kind of mechanism....... ya
How vawt works
thanks!

движение воды в реках и морях Вам подойдёт?
Time to stop considering fossil and nuclear as an option. A well matched power storage/buffer can do the job just as well.
Or hydro.
@@andriusst - nuclear power is a clean replacement for fossil fuels though.
Nice
Thanks appreciate it
Efficiency has nothing to do with anything. The main thing is capacity utilisation
But I have two potential employees to start with .
Do you have any office in India send me address
