New Ornamental Tarantulas - Poecilotheria "POKIES ARE THE BEST"

- I'm back! Thank you for sticking around.
I picked up these Poecilotheria species in a motorway services carpark
.. I got a few looks.
Poecilotheria regalis
Attractively coloured, this is a firm favourite of the hobby and the most commonly kept Poecilotheria and is considered the most "calm" species preferring to hide rather than show aggression. As with all Poecilotheria species, it has motley patterned legs with yellow stripes underneath them and ornamental figures on the abdomen and carapace. This is possibly the most popular arboreal Tarantula as it has a rather large adult size and is easy to breed.
Another interesting factor that makes this species popular is that it is one of the few species of Tarantula that can be kept communally (in groups) from the young stages. Several spiderlings can be observed feeding on the same food item. We can usually supply small groups from the same egg sack.
In nature, it inhabits more xeric areas than most other Indian and Sri-Lankan species, so it needs some lower humidity for keeping in captivity. It lives in silken retreats in hollows of dead and alive trees usually above ground. Unfortunately, the number of Poecilotheria spp. in the wild is decreasing due to deforestation (firstly of primary forests) and low ability of adaptation to human impact factors (P.Kirk, P.Charpentier (1996).
This is one of the hardiest and easy to keep species in the hobby. It is fast-growing and often bred, however, it is also very fast and will bite if provoked. So best suited to confident keepers with some experience.

My passion is for "old world" tarantula like Poecilotheria, Cyriopagopus and Phormingochilus BUT I'm also in love with the true giants - Theraphosa (Goliath Birdeater) If you enjoy my videos then please consider subscribing.

Your naturalist setups are world class. The best I’ve seen on the web anyway. Thanks for identifying the plant species too.
Pokies are great! Thank you for this. Glad you're back. Love you brother.
beautiful enclosures!
Cheers dude 👍
Absolutely dig pokies. One of my first tarantulas way back in the day. Got one after it ran up the reptile curators arm, parked on his face and promptly bit him on the nose..... great judge of character that spider and a great pet.
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Nice to see you back, Gar. All you can do is knuckle down and work hard, and then in my experience the path becomes slightly easier when grieving.
Kind words ma'colleague. Thank you

Glad you are back, love the videos.

We all need time to process life babes, I’m glad you’re back and took the time you needed.
I am a pokie lover, I have 9 so far but with the esa over here I’m having a hard time getting the Sri Lankan ones until I can find someone in my state that sells them
Yeah it's only going to get harder to find certain species, that's why I'm stocking up for breeding groups
@@ArachnoTube wish our prices were like y’all’s lol cuz I’d be doing the same
Enjoyed that, nice vid 👍
Cheers 🍻
lovely group of spiders these dude
looking forward to pod cast too
I said it now so it's gotta be done haha
And for once something besides cork bark, yay!
Ahh sweetheart I am really sorry to hear about your mum, I know it is the hardest person to lose! I don’t understand why people would unsubscribe because you weren’t making videos for a short time! Don’t worry about anything but yourself, cry whenever you need to, take time away from UA-cam whenever you want! Sadly grief is earth shattering and I think we never get over losing our loved ones, we carry it through the rest of our lives!
Is there any laws in our country about having certain species? I am studying entomology and some of the websites don’t have those answers, you have loads of knowledge so I need to have a tarantula expert on hand, you live in Wales and so do i. So could you help me out a tiny bit?
If you ever want a chat about anything let me know! Xx
That's really nice, thank you.
Poecilotheria have joined a few others and have been added to CITES which makes shipping from Europe more difficult and I can only see the laws getting harsher tbh.
Being in Wales, you are pretty much OK to keep any invertebrates as long as they are off the DWAL (dangerous wild animal licence)
Wicked tarantulas i have the P ORNATA fringed ornamental 🕷🖤🖤
Hey bro love the channel and feel the same way about pokies, can’t get subfusca lowland over here though or at least I can’t. That’s my favorite pokie
