FYI you got pretty lucky with a heated floor...that is definitely not common ;) Especially on older houses (they didn't care about thermal efficiency of a house until 10 or 5 years ago) you'll find only radiators. Yours is either a recent house or a renovated one.

That house is BEAUTIFUL! Houses in Italy is way different than the states. I went to visit my best friend the beginning of last year before the pandemic started. So I was just completely amazed! I’ll have to recommend some restaurants we went to which were so cute!
Also, please do a video of “Things I wish I knew before PCSing overseas!” As we want to PCS overseas. We had germany then lost our orders.

That heater in the bathroom it’s connected to central heating, usually in Italy, in the bathroom, there isn’t floor heating but those “towel rack” style heaters. If you need more “power” for your appliances you can ask your energy provider for an improved (and more costly) contract, the standard one is 3KW here (if you get used to it’s not a problem)

First of all welcome to Italy for your deployment, sure you came across a very nice villa with a big garden and a separate building as a garage. Let make this clear, in Italy and generally, in Europe, we have a different perception of what amount of space a family really needs. So even a big house generally hasn't more than 3 bedrooms. Even the square feet of every single bedroom is very different from the States. So guys be prepared for a different cultural approach to the concept of "size"...after 4 years, at the end of your deployment, you'll be totally adapted to our "dimensions".this being said 172 square feet are our standard 16 square meters ( be prepared to our metric system, very easy btw)for a master bedroom, for the children we usually scale down to 139 square feet or about 12 square meters. Our windows are the best in the world, from lamellar wood to mixed wood aluminum or PVC with double or triple pane with mono frame including shutters and insects screen. As for our heating system forget about your typical floor ventilation system, by convection. We use a different approach, radiant heat is more comfortable than hot air which flies fast to the ceiling. Our radiant floors, while keeping homogeneous temperature all around, make you feel cozy and comfortable because radiant heat is basically reflected by the mass of a body as infrared radiation which is nice on the skin. Probably you noted our homes aren't built in wood. Yes, residential buildings here in Europe, but particularly in Italy, are built with a mainframe of reinforced concrete and big bricks with external insulation made with styrofoam panels, 5 inches tick, which are then plastered with a specially designed mortar. Internally we use counter walls made of drywall plates on a metallic frame which in the States is a code required only for commercial buildings. Electric systems are connected to a 220 volts outlet, not your regular 110 or 120 volts. As for the AC, we don't use a centralized system with dedicated conduits, but we use split based system with a couple of split units on a different zone. I hope this long post will help you guys from overseas to be familiar with our residential building perspective...and enjoy the beautiful Italy

I'm confused, it's a high end, restructured furnished italian country house, probably a couple of thousand euros a month, part of an italian inheritance... some aviano family. What's the big deal, considering you won't be in there more than a year. Leave the decorating to not decorating, just don't damage anything. You're there to be soaked.
