Literally my one true complaint about arenas outside of the usual occasional scopely performance issues, is the favors seem to be genuinely time consuming prospect to get them unlocked/leveled up. You need to commit probably 2 hours worth of time in an 8 hour window every week (so 25% of the available time) to get enough loot to triple pull the chest every day. You of course do not have to do that, but if you aren't then each favor will take months to even unlock, nevermind level up, and at that point, is it even a rewarding experience if it's gonna take me until December to unlock one something useful?
This makes a ton of sense disley! One of the reasons I think the 8 hour window should be extended and also think they should consider running it multiple days a week. (or just lower the costs of everything)
@@RevDeuce absolutely! Either more opportunity to engage or lower the cost (or boost the chest rewards without mentioning the word prime!). We've several factions with favors now, and this one definitely feels like it's going to be the most expensive one to engage with just in terms of credit cost per favor. The wave favors would probably be next but we can engage with waves whenever we want to make up for it, and the wave favors are mostly self contained to improving the wave experience itself.
Probably more than 2 hours unless you get really lucky. It seems to take roughly 15 minutes per match, between matchmaking, waiting time at the start, the actual match, and waiting time at the end. If you win every game, that's 2:15. If you win 75% of the time, that's 3:22.5. If you win 50%, 4:30. 4 and a half hours per week is quite time consuming, especially considering you have to spend that all in one day. I suspect most people will not be able to triple pull every day.
@@RevDeuceCost should change but that is unlikely as for time to unlock/max this might be irrelevant since the refinery has a cool down timer so even if they have it 24/7 (which I feel they should do) they have still locked everything behind a time lock that they will likely create a bypass pack for. So figure out the big ask so the compromise is remove the tax on the multiple pull change it to 1 for 300, 3 for 900, and 5 for 1500 and then extend the hours of operation to as far as they will go with them.
Many of us 60+ couldn't play because our alliance doesn't have 6 players in the range. Cant play with less then 6. So we have missed out on all three events since you can't play.
The participation numbers seem to indicate that people crave a balanced pvp aspect to the game. Arena seems to be the best bet towards that if Scopely can do it right.
I'm not able big pvp player, but I do think this is a good mechanic with "some" really great rewards, but they are buried pretty deep behind ranking and reputation. So it will be very time consuming to unlock those. The matching is also kind of whack. The currency payouts could be better too. Not everyone has time to do arenas all day to get enough currency to do multiple pulls all week. I only got enough to do 2 days of pulls. Scopley needs to address the whole issue of time consumption and making things quicker and more efficient. Overall, I don't hate the new thing. But needs work.
I'm a comm in my alliance and I felt compelled to participate to help my members that wanted to, I, personally, didn't care to try it out. The biggest issue is not a long enough window for people that really wanted to.
There are so many things to tackle first. But once done Scopely should really reconsider the playfield itself. It's currently a basic system on which the big guns have so much speed that they can intercept nearly all armada's from weaker players. A wider system setup or preferably FoW would perhaps make it more enjoyable for the weaker players in each team. Being able to sneakely get some armada's in. Some flying lootboxes. Etc. Perhaps have different playing fields that are selected at random. Could be fun. ... probably wishfull thinking
I did not have the time to try Arena, with it being during the working day. Just another grind by the look of it. Thanks for the video Rev, always appreciated.
I have a hunch how the higher participation came to be, in my alliance two teams tried it independent from eachother, second team went into the arena while no one from the first was online to give feedback and since time was running short they just went in. Both teams in hindsight called it a waste of time they wouldn't do again in that form ^^'
Good idea but as usual, rolling this out during the week is hard to participate with work being so busy. Also the glitches and lag made this event unplayable for many.
I generally like the arena idea, but agree about the communication. The announcement that went out with the start times should have included the end times too. I feel like you really need a full 24 hour window for all players to be able to engage. I know my alliance has a small but dedicated "night shift" of players, that probably ended up completely missing out on the Arena window.
Looked forward to try it, first got delayed becouse it started under work hours then got delayed becouse i had ships in token space. Then was finally able to join with a group of 3 lvl 58, 1 64 and a 59. Sadly meet a team with 1 lvl 70. 2 lvl 68, 1 lvl 60 and lvl 57. Thanks too the lag issues it was great fun with the two lvl 68 camping entry point and kill everyone entering before anyone could control the ships.
The time window wasn't a good fit for me. I didn't even try the arena, didn't had much interest as it seemed to be really time-consuming. Like you already said in other videos, Scopley should focus on helping us accomplish more within a definite amount of time instead of asking more time from us.
@RevDeuce, I'm not so upset about not being able to participate, but that I'm worried about the fire hose of content once I hit 40... There's SOOOO much that's unlocked at 40. They need to spread it out...
Gosh I want a lot of those favours... but MAN is it tough trying to rank up; feels one step forward two steps back, but maybe that's just me. Hopefully as matchmaking improves things will even out and we can achieve a generally upward momentum
I get a lot of the criticism but most of it has playability counterpoints. Yeah, it would be great if it were open all week - but then the matchmaking would be worse and the queues could last hours or days. The idea behind repair speedups isnt that we just get an infinite supply and use them every time, but that we are rewarded for having more ships loaded out and for strategic use of the speedups when it matters. Wouldnt mind a 3v3 though! Thats a good solution to a few concerns
The battles were VERY unbalanced. I’m OPs 42 and started on. We got killed by a 55. By the way the difference btw 40 and 47 is like the difference btw a honda civic and a corvette. A 55 in and F22
I thought that the event was cancelled. Went to sleep on sunday, saw the timer that could do the arena on monday. Got back from work and the timer was ticking down from about a week.
Didn't get to participate. I'm one of the eleven 40+ players in my alliance. We couldn't get five 40+ online at the same time for the arena window. So yeah... Maybe don't run this midday on a Monday. I know Scopely wants us to devote our entire lives to this game, but c'mon. However, reading through my galaxy chat, the other alliances on my server seemed to like it a lot. Hopefully I can try it out next week.
awesome video as the norm from you rev.. i hate the arena its unbalanced.. and there was not enough time during the event.. 10 hours was not enough time.. people work. this year has not felt like startrek in the events.. and no idea why terran is in game.. mirror universe is bull.. scopley need to start looking into more in game missions for players how about based on the tv series. all of them.. plenty of content there.. also ferengi faction would make more sense then terran faction. least that is a perm fixture in star trek. but arena is not a problem now.. i dropped from my guild and yes i loose a load of events.. but man it has made this game less complicated.. was not a case of wanting to play arena.. we had a stupid event to complete. and lets not start with the new ships.. and hate galaxy quest in game.. i came to play star trek not what its turning into..
Interesting idea, but the brackets are broken. As a lower level 40's player I can not get the same ships a upper level 40's player can get no matter how much I grind. They need to match it up by the ships you can get, for example 40 to 45 in one bracket and 46 to 49 in another so everyone has the same ships available. When we tried the other team had one upper level guy with a big ship we could not touch and he just swept us every time we entered the system. One and done for us.
I do think it's a fun idea, but the bracketing is terrible. As an ops55, every match I played had at least one 62 in it. They just camp the entry point and kill me as I enter.
The brackets are the pain point of PvP in general. I'm Ops 44 second highest on my server and 207 across all Ops 44s so not terrible and we got paired with a 51 and his Tribune with a speed crew easily popped my T7 kelvin running Freeman crew and he was in that 7 range. But Im fairly sure a 47 could have done similar with a G4 rare. They almost need to make the ranges 40-42, 42-46, 46-50, 50-53, 53-56, 56-60,60-63, 63-66, 66-70 Yes the overlap is intentional. The new 46 really isn't far from the 42 but with a little time could be a challenge for a 50. This also allows for an interesting mechanic. If someone at one of the overlap lvls starts you could make your group out of 2 ranges which gives some play vercitality. Definitely not ideal but it is better banding than what they have now and doesn't give a decisive advantage unless someone like a 42 starts.
This has the potential to be fun, but for heaven’s sake Scopely - FIX THE LAG! The 8 hour window, which hinders most working, family people from playing, is a joke. It should be 24 hours to give everyone a chance. It took my alliance 5 tries and 4 hours before we could form a squad as people had limited time to log on and couldn’t wait around for a full squad and matchmaking to happen. We finally got in after 9 pm ( 2 hours left in window) and ran 3 matches back to back to back with the same 5 players to capitalize on their availability. We won 2 matches but the rewards were massively underwhelming for all that chaos. The fact that your miners are pulled from nodes automatically when you enter the arena is a huge turnoff as many players are ftp long miners and sit on nodes for days. They’re not going to lose a node for a 6 minute match. That instant recall feature has to go!
No way I can play this game on PC with the time it takes to complete events. My life is too busy and it works that I can play it sporadically through out the day. I couldn’t imagine getting off work, and playing this game for a guaranteed 2 hours a night. I’ll deal with the mobile glitches. They happen on PC too.
@@thehawk5141 its so much slower, the loading times, the lag, pvp is so dump on phone and this stuff is much faster on pc ... but i also hate to game in pc .. this is why i play stfc because it was a mobile game that you could daddle on your phone ... e.g. while watching tv ...
Whilst I like the concept, another great tech tree and officers being locked behind another time consuming task its really tiring. Waves is enough, we already have to run 3 maybe 4 of these per day to meet what we need there is no "Double up" options to help us with credits and now another feature that requires a lot more time. I just dont think they have a clue how much time these things take, and how much they are asking us to do with all the new content. Last point, Rev we know you try but if Scopely really listened they would have chilled out the roadmap and give less content for a bit. I am really starting to hate this game since Bek's joined.
I want to enjoy pvp, but, anytime I have to try to punch up (especially from g3 to g4, or g4 to g5), it is essentially impossible to do. Being ops 49, I am stuck in the bracket of fighting g5 rare ships, and there is no world where I win that fight. Yeah, I could focus on hitting hostiles and armadas.... but that assumes I am not picked off quickly by the bigger fish. Brackets matter Scopely. Brackets matter. And, on top of that, the 2 min repair timer is egregious (on top of only being able to repair 1 ship at a time). So, lose 5 ships? If you have no instant repairs left, there goes your entire Arena time, just waiting on repairs.
I am kind of tired of the game releasing mediocre features attached to potentially valuable rewards. It kind of feels like the theme for the year. Well, that and overloading on new content... There is good stuff in the new faction store, which is tied to the new PVP Arena. The new ship has a cool refinery, but it is double walled behind the ship acquisition which is also tied to the arena. I just have no desire to actually waste time in the new feature. It is like I am kind of being forced to play in subpar content I don't care about if I want to get Lorca/Janeway ans some of the Primes.
First and foremost: There's no PVP in this game. The big spender will always smash the lower spender. I'm lvl 57 and entered the arena.. Couldn't stay alive for more than 2 seconds when a 1.9 bil roto smashed every ship I sent. With that said, I hate the arena, with no way to use strategy or level the participants, bigger will always win so I'm just sad that I wont be getting those favors because I'll not waste my time being smashed.
Completely agree. Our 55+ players had to sit out because they were causing the matchmaking to select whales as our opponents. We had to limit the squad to 4 40s and one 50+ player to be competitive. The power creep for the whales is ridiculous and this arena shows it clearly. There is no competitive PvP when whales are around. 60+ players should have their own arena.
I'd really like to understand how they work out 29% of player eligible took part. Is that 29% of above 40 ops or 29% players who were online during the joke they call an event timeframe? Pointless running something new on a limited timer and then expect people who work to be able to take part
@@RevDeuce was it they were online or just that they're over 40 ops? Would be interesting to see how many were online and didn't engage at all or couldn't get a team etc
Level 40+. So we took the total number of participants and divided it by the total number of players 40+. So, in terms of "who was around" at the time the % is much higher. However, there's no good way to really track who all is actually online. At least not a really reliable way we've found.
@@RevDeuce still a decent amount despite it being a bad time for the majority of players especially for those on EU servers. Landed right in the middle of normal working hours so in theory if it had of been longer the engagement could have been much higher.
o wauw .. 50% off (g4 ships) = 1200/2 = 600 per bps nnnnnnnnnnooooo says scopely .. = 1/(1+(50%/100)) = 800 per bps (huh ???) also unable to remove players that are AFK on purpose you need to disband and regroup .. :( participation time is kinda bomming, but going against ops 4x ops 50 players was no fun .. me being ops 41 .. its just like doing incursions capped ops 50 vs 50-60 enabled server .. (eu401) and getting a "meh" 5% discount comp AFTER 2 weeks .. having zero chances to hop on the other server and STFC/Scopely being AWOL anway . this makes powercreep / balanced play very obvious .. (of its non-exsistance and scopely giving players zero fun while leveling .. unless high = die)

If you have no instant repairs left, there goes your entire Arena time, just waiting on repairs.
i have to pass on that ... i will ignore any further Arena Events
its just not working for me
I am kind of tired of the game releasing mediocre features attached to potentially valuable rewards.
You're not being forced. That's FOMO. Ignore it. Play what you want to play.
should be 1v1 and open 24/7 with limits on how many runs a day you can make, like other games.
im not ops 40 but from feedback from my alliance members the payouts are not great and ops lock to some wanted to play but could not cause the lock
paywall locks , ops lock walls ... extremely expensive bundles .. perhaps compare numbers from 3 years ago to now , less players playing maybe ?
Population isn't much different than 2 years ago. ( I don't have numbers 3+ years ago), but spending has definitely dropped
Too many paywalls
Game crashed every time I started 1
Same
Would be better if it was solo. Had to wait for a team to form. Just a waste of time
Yup, and people don’t always have time to wait around. Similar to waves. There should be a solo feature.
I'd really like to understand how they work out 29% of player eligible took part. Is that 29% of above 40 ops or 29% players who were online during the joke they call an event timeframe? Pointless running something new on a limited timer and then expect people who work to be able to take part
Its all players Ops 40+ who scored in the SLB (so they had to participate to score). So 29% of all possible players participated in the 8 hour window.
I don't like pvp.
In my opinion should be somthing for pve players in Terran Empire store. Daily claim 10 rep and 10/20 credits.
Way to short a duration and on a way overly busy launch month it was mostly lost with very poor explanation and lag was ridiculous
1st
arena event on when I'm at work, pathetic
o wauw .. 50% off (g4 ships) = 1200/2 = 600 per bps nnnnnnnnnnooooo says scopely .. = 1/(1+(50%/100)) = 800 per bps (huh ???)
also unable to remove players that are AFK on purpose you need to disband and regroup .. :(
participation time is kinda bomming, but going against ops 4x ops 50 players was no fun .. me being ops 41 .. its just like doing incursions capped ops 50 vs 50-60 enabled server .. (eu401) and getting a "meh" 5% discount comp AFTER 2 weeks .. having zero chances to hop on the other server and STFC/Scopely being AWOL
anway . this makes powercreep / balanced play very obvious .. (of its non-exsistance and scopely giving players zero fun while leveling .. unless high = die)
No interest in this feature - I'm level 29 so why would I
Lol 40+ boooooooooo
Revvy jealous of ops30s for Terran favors? They can’t do arenas. Try harder revvy.
