    In the Order of the Phoenix, Harry and Arthur Weasley are in the elevator at the ministry going down to the hearing, when paper airplanes fly in the elevator and Arthur says "Interdepartmental memos, they used to use owls, the mess was unbelievable."
    This explains why in Fantastic Beasts 2 they show owls delivering mail and then the cleaning machine and house elves cleaning up after the owls.

    I think the blood pact is the reason Ariana was killed. They already made the pact, fought anyways, and that's why one of their curses rebounded and hit her instead, since it it didn't allow Grindelwald and Dumbledore to hurt each other.

    • @Abraxinaa

      Oh my God! That would make so much sense!! Like they both fired a Curse at the same time at each other and they sort of like bounced from them to her and one hit Ariana so it would explain why Dumbledore dont know wich curse hit her.

    • @Casper_Sav
      @Casper_Sav 6 років тому +45

      Or! It happened afterwards in result of Ariana dying. The 3-way duel resulting in her dying broke the hearts of both of them, knowing they both loved her. Maybe she tried to get them to stop fueding? That's why they promised: in honor of her dying wish.

    My favorite thing in this whole movie is the scene between Dumbledore and Leta when they are talking about their siblings and it's actually some nice foreshadowing because they both indirectly killed their siblings

  • @MsBored35
    @MsBored35 5 років тому +177

    The part when Leta asks Newt if he remembers that she threw dungbombs to join him in detention, and Newt said no, immediately made me think that Newt didn't realize that Leta had joined him *intentionally*. It made me think that Newt did not believe at that moment that Leta was into him, and this is rather an unintentional confession on the (present) Leta's behalf about the strength of how she felt for him back then. Also, Newt seems to be the kind of guy who would be kind of clueless of his appeal. The fact that she remembered and mentioned that particular incident felt like a layered way of revealing that she still has feelings for him. I agree with the interpretation that Leta is hung up on Newt, but not the other way. For me, this one exchange kind of sums up their entire dynamic - past and present.

    I always saw that the weird Newt/Lestrange camera angles were to show Newt's eyes. Throughout most of the last film and this one, he does not make proper eye contact with anyone. However when he sees Leta's shoes you see him make eye contact. Showing that he cares for her more than he does for anyone else. If you have ever seen House M.D. there is an episode in which House saves a boy with Autism, as a thank you the boy makes eye contact with House. Same kinda thing in my eyes.
    I would hazard a guess that in a later film the same camera trick would be used to look at Tina too. Showing how much he cares for her.

Newt was purely only a textbook author in the HP books, he's only ever referred to in 3rd person as a throwaway name & he's now got what, around 5 films? She can no longer communicate with anyone which I imagine would be painfully lonely. Then one day a boy named Tom Riddle comes along and he can both speak to her and understand her and he’s the only one who can do that, that would absolutely endear him to her.

    No, Abernathy and Grindelwald switch places in the cell, when Abernathy first shows up in the door window. Reasons for this:
    1) Abernathy wouldn't just be wielding the Elder Wand.
    2) They said they cut off Grindelwald's tongue, but Abernathy was the one who needed his tongue restored.
    3) Grindelwald (as Abernathy, prior to the carriage), was just trying to give the "wand" to them. He needed the madame president to nudge him to give the blood pact, which he didnt want to give at first.
    4) That whole action scene wasn't to save Abernathy, it was to get back that blood pact back, but helping one of your biggest supporters escape with you was a reason also.
    5) It was definitely just Polyjuice Potion. Abernathy had plenty of contact with Grindelwald prior to the escape to swap places and keep the polyjuice going.

    I absolutely loved how they shot the extreme close-ups of Leta and Theseus at the beginning of the movie, and how in every scene Newt refuses to make eye contact with either character. I think its the best representation of social anxiety I've ever seen in cinema and I could relate to Newt in that way. It's supposed to make you very very uncomfortable, that's how Newt feels, he wants to look away, he feels too close. I understand if you've never had social anxiety before it just seems weird but I felt it was a great way to show you Newt's feelings.

    Maybe, Credence, is not an Obscurial, but instead, an Obscurus. Here's the story: Ariana Dumbledore is an Obscurial, because she suppressed her magical abilities. But, because those from the Dumbledore family are so magically gifted, she developed a very special, powerful, and unusual kind of Obscurus: one with its own consciousness: a dark twin, to Ariana. Maybe the Obscurus was able to manifest itself physically, or it was apparent to only Ariana, but someone knew it was conscious, hence it being given a name: Aurelius. When Ariana died in 1899 (roughly matching with the time "Credence" would have been born), the Obscurus was released from Ariana, and became an entire entity all of its own, manifesting as a baby, which would then be taken in by someone bound, for America.

We know this because Leta was born in 1896/97 and we see her at about the age of 10 switching the babies which once again is in approx 1907. Well, in the German version she says "Ich liebe dich", which is singular for "I love you" (we differentiate singular and plural "you", and plural would be "Ich liebe EUCH" ... on the other hand, we both call "she" and "they" "sie", so we also have our problems with pronouns, but just with the third person, not the second - which is not so bad though because the verb changes in plural as well, so you can differentiate "sie ging"/"she went" and "sie gingen"/"they went" pretty well, even though "she" and "they" are the same word). Long story short, that's why I never considered her talking to Theseus when saying "I love you", the story pretty much sets it up for Leta being affected to Newt.
      This may be a translation error but those you-issues happened a lot in Harry Potter novels and films and the German translators actually contacted Rowling to learn about what the correct translation would be, so I guess they did it that time as well. I can't imagine they didn't consult the producers on such an important issue. I'm pretty much convinced Leta only meant Newt.
      (btw, that's why many people assumed correctly who R.A.B. was after the sixth book. They looked it up on other languages. The abbreviation only worked for one single character, which was Regulus. Every single translator learned how to correctly translate R.A.B. regarding Regulus's translation into those translators' languages.)

    12:51 my interpretation was that Grindelwald used polyjuice potion with Abernathy before the scene started. Abernathy (posing as Grindlewald) had his tongue cut out and was always the one in the carriage. The only reason Grindlewald (posing as Abernathy) gave the Blood Bond away is because the Leader of MACUSA (can’t remember her name) told him to, and refusing her orders would arouse suspicion. You can see in the scene that ‘Abernathy’ was reluctant to give the bond away. Also, since the polyjuice was about to run out, Abernathy’s cover wouldn’t remain for long so Grindlewald needed to get out quickly. But he had to go after the blood pact first, and when he apparates onto the carriage the polyjuice runs out (they probably took it at the same or at similar times, perhaps splitting up one batch between them). Grindlewald decides to save Abernathy because one more follower can’t really hurt, and Abernathy was proven to be loyal to the cause by agreeing to the switcheroo in the first place. So it was Grindlewald on top of the carriage with the elder wand casting all those crazy spells, Abernathy was inside the carriage the whole time. I believe showing Abernathy holding the Elder Wand is a clue to the audience to say ‘that isn’t Abernathy’

      @MrShroomed 4 роки тому +1

      @@MrNicolinoTv I would not think that.
      I think Grindelwald forced a body swap onto him, that's why Grindelwald swapping bodies was smooth for Abernathy had to contort himself onto Grindelwald's position.
      You're forgetting Grindelwald is top tier Metamorphmagi and HAS done spells we've never even heard of. You're also forgetting Grindelwald has been locked up since before any of this happens, and Abernathy has never had direct contact with him. ( IE, at which point would Grindelwald be unsupervised enough time to drink a Polyjuice )
      To finish off the real reasoning, once Abernathy takes position of Grindelwald's body and Grindelwald onto Abernathy's, Grindelwald rewards him with "this ( waves wand)" and gives him a serpent tongue as a replacement.
      And just a rebuttal, Abernathy would NOT be as strong of a wizard to take that whole fleet of guards like that, even with Grindelwalds ( not actually his supposedly ) Elder Wand he would not have perfected the execution of that breakout. Grindelwald knows the Blood Pact is unbreakable and there's no way he wouldn't recover it after getting rid of everyone else.

      This is my view: Grindelwald had his plan but he needed a guard to help him, so he convinced his guard to convert to his side, however the ministry found out and changed his guard. He tried again, but once again the ministry found out. Then he got Abernathy, who didn't get caught. When Abernathy was sent to prep Grindelwald for transport, he and Grindelwald swapped places (I had assumed with a polyjuice potion). Remember the part where Abernathy is looking at Grindelwald through the slot in the door? I think it was just after that that they swapped. Grindelwald, as Abernathy, got the elder wand and put Antonio (the poor lil bean) in the wand box (this had to have been done after they swapped cause Antonio was with Grindelwald until the last moment). Then the transport happens, the polyjuice (or whatever) wears off, everything happens. As for why the elaborate plan? I get the impression (from his talent, charisma, manipulation, etc) that Grindelwald likes to show off, he likes to perform

    Thought of another thing, would make a great theory video for you!
    Nicolas Flamel has a minor part, and while most are focusing on the fan service shot of the philosopher's stone in his safe, I have another angle. He takes out a book, flips through, and speaks with a woman in a portrait. The woman tells him "He says you need to help them" (or something similar to that affect). This tells us something important! First, the 'He' has to be Dumbledore, so there is a group working with him - we also know this from a comment Dumbledore makes in his classroom to the head of magical law enforcement when he says (I'm paraphrasing): "You can keep watching me and my friends, but there is no plot against you, we want the same thing". Again, showing there is a group working with Dumbledore. Now you may ask, what group? I say, this is the origin of the 'Order of The Phoenix'! Think about it! Dumbledore can't work against Grindelwald yet because of the blood pact, so he has his own group doing the work. We learn in this movie that a Phoenix will come to a member of the Dumbledore family in a time of need. Dumbledore needs help because he can't act, so the group comes to him in his time of need, just like a Phoenix would. Therefore I present to you, the Order of the Phoenix is born!
    You're welcome, I expect credit in your next theory video ; )

    My theory on the Phoenix is that it came to Grindelwald because of the blood pact. Those who have blood pacts are often called blood brothers so he would “be a Dumbledore” and be able to summon a Phoenix. After all the birdy that walks on to his hand and later transforms is in Grindelwalds hand.
    In the first scene Newt saying he doesn’t remember. The vibe I got from that is that he was about to say yes he did remember but when he saw Theseus begin to walk in and remembered their engagement he denied it out of respect for his brothers relationship and not wanting Theseus to overhear about it.
    Also I think Queenie might have been under the Imperius curse because as she walks through the flame you see her in pain almost as if she’s not totally making the vow on her own volition. That could have just been her fighting over loyalty to Grindelwald or to Jacob.
    Anyways that’s my two cents.

      @ToxicKnyfe 6 років тому +1

      I think they accidentally killed her and then made the blood pact, although I am not denying your thinking as it seems reasonable.
      Ariana died at age 14 in 1899, Albus was born in 1881, 4 years before Ariana in 1885, which means that by her death he would be 18, but as he attended school from 1892-1899 that means he finished school months prior to her death? She died late summer 1899, which means that he would not be at Hogwarts. BUT, Grindelwald was born 2 years later than Albus, which means that he would be starting his sixth (?) year.
      So, looking at that, we can say that they might have fought before Grindelwald's sixth year, they could have killed Ariana, and then Grindelwald and Albus could have made the blood pact.

    I think ABERNATHY is more important than you give him credit for.
    1. Remember. "Graves" worked at the ministry and would have been watching everyone. He handpicked his allies (including Abernathy and Queenie).
    2. Maybe Abernathy is a metamorphmagus. It would explain many things. And Grindelwald would have known that already.
    3. If Grindelwald was not familiar with Queenie while disguised as Graves, Abernathy definitely knew her. He was serving as Grindelwald's spy and could have filled him in on her talents and situation. They for sure had their eye on her for a while.
    4. I don't think they sent Queenie to Paris, but they knew that she would leave NY to be with Jacob and she would follow her sister. Rosier was at the French Ministry when she arrived looking for Tina, so she knew they could proceed with their plan.

    Tina does indeed whisper “Newt” when she first sees him in the sewer. I think she’s in a bit of shock after not seeing him for a year, but then collects herself and it’s back to “mr Scamander”. There is a reaction shot of Newt that shows a confused dismay on his part upon hearing her use his surname. It’s very subtle and, as you pointed out, Eddie Redmayne is excellent at portraying little moments like that.
    So glad you mentioned the whole Salamander scenario, I have watched so many hate filled reviews that have brushed that side story aside, calling it pointless. I thought it was sweet and charming and added heart to an otherwise dark and foreboding movie. The audience I watched it with loved Jacob being Newt’s all knowing wingman and were in hysterics when he was trying NOT to say salamander...and there was a chorus of “Awwwws” when Tina finished the sentence for him. The breakout of then Abernathy served two purposes: 1 ride to Europe under a surprise step ahead 2. Retain a henchman to gather troops faster and show Gridelwald is different from Voldemort as he actually does care for his followers.

    Grindelwald had switched with Abernathy earlier, then they cut Abernathy’s tough out (as he was disguised as Grindelwald). When they went to move Grindelwald to Europe, they put Abernathy in the carriage and Grindelwald, still disguised as Abernathy, hands the case over with the “wand” in it. It is either the president or Grindelwald who mentions the other item (spoilers) the blood pact. Grindelwald, currently disguised as Abernathy is hesitant in handing over the blood pact. When the president tells him to hand it over he is forced to or risk blowing his cover, therefore he must go after Abernathy in the carriage. To get back the blood pact, (spoilers) he knows only Albus Dumbledore can defeat him and therefore the blood pact is his most important belonging.

    1) You can tell, the first time that Tina takes Next into Macusa that Graves/Grindelwald Is interested in Tina, look at his face when she is dismissed, and HE is the one who follows up, I feel it’s safe to say he has taken notice of the sisters and has atleast some sort of special interest in them.
    2) Grindelwalds Fire. To me it was obvious that this is Fiend Fire, this is just the first time we’ve ever seen it used by a wizard competent enough to control it.
    3) The reason the house elf levitates the chair and then uses magic to wipe the window above him is because he can’t see that high, magic is not infallible, it has limits. Especially with household spells, you can’t just cast a cleaning spell and expect it to have perfect effects without supervision/skill (Eh hem... Tonks) While house elves are more skilled in this area of expertise, buildings that house large congregations of magic can be much more difficult to manage than the average household. All magic leaves traces. I can’t imagine the work that goes in to keeping Hogwarts clean. That’s probably why they have so many house elves.
    4) Abernathy was the one who almost stopped Queenie from leaving MACUSA in the 1st movie, it’s possible that he may have had a crush on her, and WHATEVER his reaction to Grindelwald, which must be significant since he spent the effort to ensure his escape as well as his own, Abernathy may have been the one to let on the Grindelwald that she was an legilimens.
    5) The area the circus was in was a magical porthole, quite similar to the entrance to diagonal alley, but seems to be a center more for magical events and parties than magical shopping, so it makes sense that most witches and wizards would be well aware of quick exits. Seriously, considering how often muggle parties turn sour, one can only imagine that wizard of gatherings must turn even more quickly. Look at how quickly the patrons of the speakeasy in the first FB disappear at the slightest word of trouble.
    6) I also have a lot of questions about why the MACUSA left credence in the care of a no-mag, as well as modesty, after Tina was penalized for protecting him from their adoptive mother. Why would they not have relocated them into magical families if they were so adamant on magical-no mag relations.

The absolute latest she started Hogwarts would be in 1958. Augusta, according to the wiki, had Frank in 1957...so Augusta must have been born sometimes during the early 40s or late 30s or even earlier. I think it is quite possible that Grindelwald is toying with and manipulating Credence. By giving him the “Dumbledore” name, he may insinuate that the Dumbledores abandoned him and that they’re the villains. Because Credence has 0 prior impression of Dumbledore, he might choose to believe Grindelwald and will be used as a weapon against Dumbledore because he is a powerful wizard. This is potentially brainwashing an impressionable, terrified youth like Credence, to defeat Dumbledore and take over the world. We may see in Austria (where the next film will be set in) that Grindelwald and Queenie have trained him to harness his powers. As a result, his Obsurius most likely died off? Also that’s why Queenie conveniently enough becomes a key helper. In the last scenes in Austria, Queenie can read Credence’s mind and tell Grindelwald what persuasive strategy would be best used on Credence. After all, he’s rather unpredictable, mysterious and unstable. So with Queenie knowing what he wants, Grindelwald is guaranteed to manipulate him effectively.
    2) How they found Queenie. An interesting scene where there’s use of noises and then silence when the lady shows up (who may master Occulemency). You can tell even from the first film how distressed or apologetic she is for her Leglimens. It’s a clear breaking point for her in this scene and thru the silence, she breaks free of that and becomes vulnerable to the lady. This creates the opportunity for Grindelwald to talk her into joining his side.

    I have a theory about the blood pact but its kinda dumb soo
    Maybe we don't fully understand how blood pacts work yet? Perhaps, instead of just flat out preventing the two from fighting (or whatever else a person would make a pact for) it changes the outcome.
    So after the blood pact is made, when they attempt to duel, the actual pact is like
    "Umm excuse me no. You cannot fight. I'm going to show you what happens when you break a blood pact:"
    *gets ariana killed instead*
    So maybe somebody important to dumbledore will die (again) if he's the one to initiate the fight without breaking the pact
    Maybe dumbledore even knows this? And thats why he knows he can't fight grindewald
    Aside from this, isnt there something about oaths thats states a person will die if you break it? Maybe the pact has similar effects

I think that Ariana being a casualty from their battle for trying to help Dumbledore win is FAR better storytelling because Dumbledore feels regret at 3 levels. 1 he feels regret for allowing himself to love Grindelwald and ultimately getting his sister killed 2 he regrets being resentful towards his sister's condition and not giving her the love that she deserved and 3 he regrets being too weak magically to stop Grindewald and too weak argumentatively to stop the fight from hapoening... @@ash-tj5rl naw man, i hope not. That would not only be a really terrible way of including it, but it would also be a unoriginal thing as well. She did not sacrifice herself for them like Lily did for Harry, and it would really take away that kind of mistery around this type of protection

      Well, in the German version she says "Ich liebe dich", which is singular (we differentiate singular and plural "you"... on the other hand, we both call "she" and "they" "sie", so we also have our problems with pronouns, but just with the third person, not the second), so I never actually thought about it being directed to Theseus in the first place.
      This may be a translation error but those you-issues happened a lot in Harry Potter novels and films and the German translators actually contacted Rowling to learn about what the correct translation would be, so I guess they did it that time as well. I'm pretty much convinced Leta only meant Newt.

    Omg I was anxiously awaiting the Super Carlin Brothers take on this movie. You guys are my go to for analyzing the potter world. I LOVED the movie, it’s obvious that it’s part of a series. It’s frustrating to not have books or lore to reference! I do have faith that JK will tie everything together as the movies progress. I also feel like reading the Harry Potter books then watching the movie, although there were differences, was soooooo much more fun for me as a potterhead! Is it only me? Thanks for your videos I look forward to watching so many more.

      Yes! I went with my sister likes the Harry Potter series but had no clue about the FB series (she kinda lives under a rock lol) and she was so so lost. But I loved it! I know JK will answer our questions in the movies to come but I just can’t wait!! Especially for the trailers for the Super Carlin Brothers to break down I love all their predictions and theories of the Wizarding world 🤗

    I don't think it ever explains the whole Leta, Theseus and Newt thing but I suspect that Leta has always had self destructive tendencies because she feels she doesn't deserve anything good, like her relationship with Newt because she accidentally killed her brother. I think his deaths weighs heavily on her and everything she does is self destructive.

      Theories are nice, but for the actual facts, look at this:
      ua-cam.com/video/9AYVX6_6R2U/v-deo.html
      And realize already how embarassing the state of this Franchise has become. Even the state of the mind of the creator, APPARENTLY.

    15:18 ouuuhhh yesss, man. That spell is called Aresto Momentum. In the movie we first saw it in Prisoner of Azkaban, when Dumbledore saved Harry because he fell from his broomstick. Then, in Order of The phoenix at Department of Mysteries and the last one at Gringgots when Hermione produce the spell.
    ARRESTO MOMENTUM, MAN!!
