Bushcamp - Getting Through the Last of Winter at the Offgrid Homestead, Buying Things For My Cabin

  • In this video up at the Offgrid Homestead, we are trying to get through the last bit of winter as well as prepare for the spring. We bought some exciting new additions for my cabin that I have been getting good use out of thus far. We also needed to cut a bit more firewood for camp so we cut and hauled some with the snow machine and my new trapper sled. I also took the opportunity to put runners on my sled before I put it away for winter. We also talk about what's going to be coming for TNI in 2021.
Join my dog and I at our wilderness homestead in the Canadian North. This channel features videos on off-the-grid lifestyle and building, trapline adventures, hunting, fishing, trucks and much more!
I live off the land in a self reliant and self sufficient lifestyle. The land provides me with everything I need. My offgrid cabin is solar powered, heated by a wood stove and most everything I eat comes from the land; fish, eggs from my chickens, and many different wild game species. The lifestyle I live is essentially expense free and blesses me with the opportunity to do whatever I please.
In the winter months we head out on the trapline and ethically harvest fur bearing animals. Through moderate and sustainable methods I snare and trap these animals and work on, and sell the pelts at auction which provides a decent income for me to invest in my off the grid homestead and lifestyle.

I don’t know if anyone suggested, but click a pair of vice grips on the nut on the inside of the sled or whatever you may be working on. The weight of the vice grips will allow you to tighten the fastener or the vice grips will spin and dead head against something (in other applications).

the reason your flame isnt very big on your stove outside is because the canisters get cold and they are not as effective. thats why when you were cooking your KD in the cabin it was working better. i have learned this the hard way from camping in the winter time. great video as always.

Safety tip for propane or butane:- both are heavy, flammable gases so they fall to the ground and sit which is why they are so dangerous to use indoors...the occurrence of explosion from any spark source is very likely. Open your door and window a crack to exhaust the gas and do not light your fireplace until room is aired out. Safety first. :)

Hello Friend! Glad to see you. A few things...you shouldn't question buying things you need on the homestead. My Dad always told me to buy the best your money can buy or you'll be throwing good money after bad and have to repurchase. Good choice on your chair!! Have you ever thought about getting an induction burner? They boil water in 90 seconds. A double burner would allow you to cook your dinners in no time. They're thin and can stow away easily. A little pricey but worth it. You wouldn't have to buy butane. They'd plug in and use the solar power. I was so happy to see you wearing safety gear!!! Great long video today. Keep them coming!!

1 build project i think you should do is build a lean off the cabin or skinning shack to keep generator,4 wheeler and other equipment out of the weather even if it's just a roof.

Go online to Amazon and get a hose to adapt to a large 20 lb bottle or get a hose so you can refill the little ones from a 20 lb bottle. Lots of videos on you tube on how to do it. Do not worry about using the little stove in the house you will be OK. Trust me, I use a large propane stove in my house and a Mr Buddy heater in my small deer stand and never a problem. Enjoyed this video. Have a super wonderful week, kinda wet down here in Central Texas.

Build you a pole barn for your equipment. Would be simple and cheap and keep your tools our of the weather.
