This is very helpful. After being a happy owner of an EOS Digital Rebel for about 21 years, I'm now the proud owner of a 7D (and a 20D as well). It's about time that I get away from using the full auto setting, and learn how to actually take pictures. Your presentation is much more useful than just reading the manual. Thanks for this!
2021 and the original 7D is still a great camera. Love mine. bought loads of different bodies inc mirror-less but the 7D is always in my bag alongside my G16 which is another classic
You're AWESOME Micheal! I just purchased your crash course on the 7D today and so far, I've gotten about one hour and 25 minutes thru your video & I've learned so much already! It was $37 bucks well spent!
always wanted to learn photography. Finally bought a Canon7d but could not make heads or tail of the camera operations. Bought the canon 7d training video from the link, and its proven to be best buy. whats good about the videos is that they don't just teach the camera menus and buttons but very informative on photography techniques
i got this guys dvd on the 7d and everything you need to know on how to use it well and it is fantastic and i have learnt everything i know about the 7d from this dvd.
"there may come a time when you forget what button does what just come back and we will go over it again.. here i am 8 years after watching this video for the first time. and 3 years after not using my 7D i forgot what buttons did what and here i am! Great video thank you for taking the time to explain everything in such detail. i hope you are in good health and things are well with you Michael. thanks again! Cesar.
Primary, Secondary...Elementary dear Watson! Well, why didn't $500 in 3 classes tell me that? Arrrggh. Simply grateful for that simple instruction. Spent all day puzzled why the secondary wouldn't budge my AF. Thanks Michael, your the man!
I just inherited my late father's 7D, which in 2020 puts me over a decade behind the times - but hey, it's a new camera to me. I really liked this video, especially the teaching style generally very precise with the terminology and teach from the point of view of someone who hasn't actually done it before. This become very important when any button in hardware can have different functions in shooting different modes, and it is only the user's memory that keeps it all straight. There is one point where Michael deviates from this excellent style as when explaining the Multi-Function Button. The human brain prefers to learn something new by first leaning a concept and its associated word *then* abbreviating it rather than attempting to stuff a concept and its associated word into an otherwise meaningless abbreviation. Small quibble, but one worth remembering. There are of course exceptions like: ISO and ASA, where the concept and associated words have completely collapsed into the abbreviations - because acronyms for standards organizations aren't very meaningful to the concept anyway.
Congratulations on your camera. The 7D is really amazing, especially for your first pro camera. I have a Canon 7D Crash Course Tutorial DVD, it is made for beginners and will get you up to speed in no time. Comes with a 100% money back guarantee. Thanks for your support!
Zxanimal.. It's okay we are all here to help.. The 7d is my target I'm shooting for!!! This has to be the ultimate camera!!! Thanks for the great video.
No your speed of talking is great not too slow and not too fast. Just remember, your video is watched by those from non English speaking countries. Thanks! it is VERY good video tutorial.
Great videos I have never used a professional camera before but, i went ahead and order the CANON 7D. I really need to learn where to start from. which of your courses will be ideal for me, is this camera too difficult for a beginner to start with? Thanks
Yeah - this is truly a great camera but also key is what lens you pick and what filters. I checked out phozone dot de not dot calm for lens reviews and settled with the 50mm f1.4 USM not the cheaper 1.8 - wow -what a lens - flawless - low distortion, low CA, low vignetting, etc and also the 15-85 IS USM and 70-300 IS USM. But beyond the lens is the filters - don't buy any cheap filter check out lenstip DOT calm - for best tested / rated UV and Polarizers - makes a big difference.
I never use the 3 buttons on the top or the top screen despite having used them all the time on my 20D. I use the new Q button - much easier to see (bigger icons), works in the dark, shows everything at the same time and doesn't involve tipping the screen as much.
What video do recommend to learn everything about the 7D I know all of the basics. I seem to have a problem with getting good shots of sports like Basketball & Volleyball in a gym ;/ I also want to know how everything works ;)) Thank you for your time!!
@drunky1022 Yes video shooting is covered, including how to focus in video mode (which is not the easiest thing). Its nearly a 4 hour video and covers 99% of everything a beginner would want to know. Thanks!
@phyrrusvox - Ummm...how would you describe the delete buttons functions to a beginner? On another note, how are you justified in writing off the entire "American way" based on 3 seconds from an 8 minute video? Are you from North Korea or something?
I just bought this camera and I rely heavily on exposure compensation. I see no way to adjust my exposure compensation before taking a photo. Can you help me? Also I want to be able to shoot in continuous mode, (Not single shot.) How do I adjust that setting? When I want to make adjustments in the menu, the screen says "Register in my menu format." What does that mean? Thank you for your help
@LXUndertakerLX I am totally in love with my 7D. To be honest, I've never shot in Auto or Semi-Auto mode. I've always shot in full manual mode. I figured that would be the very best way to learn. I'm experimenting with different lenses now. Already bought a 50 1.4 and looking to buy a 70-200 in the very near future. I'm also considering buying another body. Not sure if I want the 5D or the flagship 1D just yet. Either way I know for sure that I will be getting a another body by the summer time.
Id still get the 7D Crash Course, its 3.5 hours long, and only the first part deals with basic intro stuff (however there is a lot of info in there most photogs do not know). a good 3/4's of it is specific to 7D operation. I have a video on UA-cam about indoor sports photography. Best wishes! M
Hey, Hi how are you? loved ur UA-cam video! Im living in Brazil... I was wondering how can The dvd be Downloaded or do you ship it to Brazil..? Tnx!!!!
for some reason, when i press the joystick button into the camera, it doesn't act as a selector. actually it doesn't do anything...kinda annoying. i have to press the 'set' button inside the secondary selector (quick dial). does it work on your camera? maybe i got a lemon
I was playing around with the video, but the size of video is very large, 570Mb for around 2 minutes. Is there any settings that I can use to reduce the size of the videos. Thanks in advance
The single most frustrating the on earth are arrogant engineers...These are the people who keep good instructions like this from shipping with their products. CEO's of the world, pay attention here.
Even after 13 years, this video is way better than all others.
Truth
agree
still excellent presentation - 12 years after it was done! thanks

I really love the way you teach. Some go too fast and don't really explain. You speak clearly and make it easy to follow. Thanks

Amateur photographer here - Got my 7D last night. I've been eying this camera for about 2 months now. I cant wait to dig in.
I’m curious to know how it’s been the last decade! I got this gem last night and I am less than an amateur photographer!
Thanks for the quick brush up bro, I haven't used a canon in 2 years and this really helped refresh my knowledge on what all the buttons are used for.
You're AWESOME Micheal! I just purchased your crash course on the 7D today and so far, I've gotten about one hour and 25 minutes thru your video & I've learned so much already! It was $37 bucks well spent!
This video was very helpful and I love how you break down each button with their functions!! Great video for beginners! I am definitely subscribing.
Brilliant, well clearly spoked and illustrated tutorial - 5 stars

Brilliantly explained with good clear diction - a joy to watch and listen to. Well done :)
This was AMAZING! You took your time, you spoke very clearly, it wa fun and informative at the same time.
Thanks for this. An excellent first-look. You made me competent to go buy a used 7d body.

I think the most important external button is the on/off switch! LOL great video of a phenomenal camera!
This is great - especially for a newbie such as myself
It's a lot to take in but your points are great and I hope you're right. As soon I feel like it's some, it's no problem. Second nature. Thanks
