Sensei Hotton is one of the best martial artists I've ever seen in my life, and I don't just mean his movements either. He lives karate and it shows. I come from a Kyokushin background not Shotokan, but I see the value of his teaching and would love to study under him and incorporate his teachings into what I've already learned. Even if we can't all train under Sensei Hotton, I think, we can all learn a lot from the kind of martial artist he is. He inspires me so much.

Has anyone noticed that there are no negative comments on Sensei Hotton's videos? This is the Internet, where people will criticize anything. This is proof that Sensei Hotton is the real deal. Respect! (FYI, I have never met him in person. I've just studied martial arts for a long time and have watched Sensei Hotton's videos and am very grateful to him for sharing with the world.)

First thing I learned 31 years ago ,training under sensei Hotton in Sarasota fl. Was how to bow properly. Very disciplined man, never would talk bad about anyone. He is a inspiration ,then and now. We are the same age ,I’m an old man now he is not. We were both 30 years old when I first started training back then. He looks just as sharp and crisp as ever. Osu

A breath of fresh air! So much commercial martial arts out there, to witness a high level of authenticity and respect for our art is appreciated deeply.

Fantastic insights. The power and control are mind blowing. The breakdown of technique at around 3 minutes are a joy to watch, inspirational.

Rick Hotton has, in some ways, superseded the teachings of the traditional Japanese instructor, while staying deeply within the tradition of Shotokan.

I had never thought about just how important the standing bow is and how much information is contained in the way that the karateka approaches this. Thank you for this lesson Sensei.

I've trained, at times, under Master Mikami, Master Okazaki, Master Reilly and even twice under Master Nakayama. This man knows what's going on - pay attention. He has a wealth of understanding.

In almost 40 years of martial arts training, I have seen maybe 2 or 3 people at most who move with this type of beauty and intention.

His biomechanical emphasis is slightly different than say, Andre Bertels. Similar ways of delivering power but even within traditional styles there's room for experimentation
