If pay zakat to the authorized / certified zakat body ie Lembaga Zakat Selangor ..Majlis Agama Islam Wilayah Persekutuan in KL you can get rebate from the Income Tax Department aka LHDN..but have double confirm with LHDN about digital nomad tax
I think the 90 day visa on arrival is so generous that many people can work with it rather than applying for a longer visa (and possibly having to file taxes there). So many amazing countries to visit nearby while renewing Malaysia visa, but I do wonder if you would get denied after re-entering so many times. Maybe not though bc many do business trips KL throughout the year, maybe it’s common?
182 days is true for digital nomad in Malaysia under the “digital freelancer” category 👍 but it looks like all digital nomads will not be taxed regardless of the duration of their stay until Dec 2026
@@sairathemusafir I didn't understand the Dec 2026 part. Does this mean that nomads will be taxed in malaysia starting from January 2027 regardless of them staying less than 182 days or more ?
@@mohamedayoubeleuch8066 So far yes, that is what their tax laws state. As of Jan 2026 nomads will be taxed if they stay MORE than 182 days (but it depends on where your income is sourced). Some say that you'll only be taxed for income earned within Malaysia. You can contact Hasil at their hotline for more info, or find a local Malaysia tax agent. Good luck!
only till 2026? if i move from UK it means i can't come back for UK residency for 5 years, if i go back before 5 years, UK gov charges taxes on all income earned, so if the digital nomad 0% tax is only until 2026 then what happens after?
Yes but it’s what’s mentioned in the sheet. The video makes it sound like foreign income is totally exempt from taxation which isn’t the case. Besides US citizens are an exception anyway.
There is no tax treaty between the 2 countries and foreign income is exempt from tax till 2026 regardless of whether taxes were deducted in US. But in other countries with double taxation treaties yes u r right . The taxed income is exempted which is collected in source country.
Morocco is on my long list of countries to visit! InshaAllah I hope we can make it out there soon. Please share any recommendations for cities and sites not to miss!
Great. I think registered as digital nomad more about simplified for visa and may stay longer compared to ordinary tourists. For taxes, it will go for domestic law about residence status and sources of income. Remittances or income out of Malaysia not subject to local tax. Maybe subject to sources countries. But if generates income in Malaysia, just like doing business, even online business, may subject to local tax. recently a lot of discussions about global rate for it but i didn't heard the final decisions 😅

I think if a traveller stays within 180 days per visit, he or she is not taxed. I heard that europe too has this law.

Do you need to be a Tax Filer in order to apply for PR (Digital Nomad/MM2H) for Malaysia? Or Non-Filer can also apply?
You should have mentioned that income needs to be taxed in country of origin in order for it to be exempted in Malaysia.
That’s not true in all cases. For example, for US citizens, we are taxed in our home country and also in certain other countries too.
