couple tips that can and will improve your hookup ratio: Use a Baitcaster for float fishing, makes line management a lot easier and makes for a much quicker hookset. Use a longer rod especially for longer drifts as shown in the 1st portion of this video. This will also aid in line management. Use a larger hook if fishing for kings and if fishing barbless try out the maruto grabber hooks. They work magic. Dont horse the fish in. Not once did you stop to let any of the fish fight, you just kept reeling and horsing them in. Great way to lose fish.
That’s how it’s done! Spin reels sound the sweetest. But it’s true bait casters are better for reacting. If it feels right is must be! So if it’s not broke don’t fix. Keep Slaying Em Vu!🎣💯
Haha I’m really curious now to try out. Others in comment also recommend bait caster. I use bait caster when drifting eggs and it’s a huge difference so maybe I’ll like it for bobber too.
@@fishingwithvu Tomorrow morning looks good. I just can't decide on wether to go high or the earlier spots. It would be fun to fish sometime together. We fish a lot of the same spots.
I am using soft beads with size 4 hooks and was landing everything I hooked until the end of the Arun a week ago when the water was really low and clear. The fish were lockjaw for the most part but the ones that did bite weren't fully committing and I was losing fish and many didn't stay hooked. Monday night I caught a nice Brun Coho after work using size 4 hooks and beads. Unless you're going after Chinook or chum 1/0 hooks will work just fine, unless you want to put a dime size egg on your hook in low clear water ,then I would downsize the hook.
@@fishingwithvu Hey vu, is there a place I could DM you? I want to share one trick which works amazingly for chinooks on that river, maybe you dont know it - I learned a lot from you and want to pay back a little :)
I’m pretty sure I don’t know. It’s nice of you to offer your secret man. You don’t have to do that…now that I know you fish this river,, how about if we get to meet on the river, then you can show me how’s it done?? I’d love to learn very much.
Yo…I realized while editing the video that I put on the hook that I took off at the first spot…and ended up loosing a fish again 😂. Sometimes I don’t know what I’m doing
No one is obligated to tell you what river they are fishing. Go put in the work yourself. This is also not a secret spot, do some research and youll find it.
Why is it that we all watch so we can try and figure out what river u know its true should have to tell the person that guess the river here's the truth 10 percent of the fisherman catch 90 percent of the fish
I don’t filter out any land marks and it’s no secret where I fish lol. Trust me, go explore and go for a drive, it will be more rewarding. this is not even the best spot on the river.
@@fishingwithvu i was just kidding around now a days if u can find anything or anywhere that's not been hammered or trashed it becomes a special place pristine and there is no reason to exploit it
Like your channel and i have nothing but respect for you cuz ur addicted like me 😜 you like catching salmon and steelhead i grew up on the Oregon coast we fished and fished and fished mostly drift boat elk sixes Allegheny coos river chetco and the couquille rivers

wow…thanks for the excellent advice. It’s something I hardly think about but I do now see your point, especially how to fight them better.
Centerpins are even better

I have an old bait caster sitting. I’m gonna give it a shot
@@fishingwithvu Right on! Does not mean you won’t lose some fish. Good luck out there.

The only downside is no sound of that drag...priceless
Oh yeah. That’s true. The drag screaming is nice
So much action, damn I miss salmon fishing. Good stuff bud.
Awesome job vu, use 1/0 when water low and 2/0 hook when water regular! Try letting them eat it little longer with small hook!
Good idea. I set the hook too quickly I think
Nice! Out in the Sandy River?
Brave bro!!!🎣👌🏻
Nice work, I was just there three days ago. My spinners didn't work too well.
Coho would smash the spinner for sure. Hopefully some more new fish move in
@@fishingwithvu Tomorrow morning looks good. I just can't decide on wether to go high or the earlier spots. It would be fun to fish sometime together. We fish a lot of the same spots.
I’d go higher up river then move down if there’s no fish. I didn’t see any cohos jumping while I was there. This was last week.

Normally I use 1/O for cohos as well. Thanks for the advice
That's some good eggs you got there.
What's your recipe?
Sugar, cure, krill powder. I posted a video on how I cure the eggs before. Recipe hasnt changed 🙂
AWSOME VIDEO . HOW DO I GET SOME EGGS ?
One of my fav spots
I fish that exact spot both of them lol we should definitely go fishing sometime!
Where’s this at?
What test line are you using. And is it the braided stuff that floats?
20lb braided line for the main line. And yes the braided line floats on top of water
What park is this?
Good stuff always good to have a hook sharpener on deck😅
Yeah. Or carry some bigger hooks haha. Clearly 1/O wasn’t able to do the job this day
What a great day!
Are you targeting coho with bobber and eggs? I thought coho bites only spinners/jigs :)
I don’t really fish with spinner that much anymore. Jig with sand shrimps is my next thing if I don’t wanna use eggs
@@fishingwithvu On this river I was getting only chinooks using eggs past month (and you cant keep them) and coho's with spinners/twitching.

@@fishingwithvu sure thing! if I'll see you, i'll say hi :)
Are you supposed to use barbless?
No. We can use barbed hook, just depend on regulation of each river.
Good egg....
You should feed the pike minnow to the hawk as it Flys by.
😆
On fire 🔥
Fantastic, maybe do something so the camera can capture thr bobber better
Good idea. I’ll work on that.
Sometimes those jacks are biters
From personal experience the lower river alot of tules if you are fishing eggs
No wonder I didn’t see any coho jumping around. I’ll try up river next time
P line flourocarbon ss leader bro. 15lb even the 12lb. Please switch to it. Lmao best line I've ran yet
Good suggestion. I’ll give that a try. Thanks 😊
Bro can you take me with you

Even a great fishermen, has bad days 😅
It was a good day fishing lol, not the catching part 😅
I would of switched hooks on the 2nd fish lost

drag is too tight on this set up..
have you ever heard of borax?
Yeah. To cure eggs?

Get yourself a good bait box your wasting time running back and forth to get your bait
Good idea 👍
