Whoa! Did you get through that long video?! If you want to watch more videos on chickens (and shorter ones!) check out our Chickens Ducks and Geese Playlist: Full Chicken Playlist: goo.gl/qbMjtR Thanks for watching!
As soon as I get some experience in that area...right now I am on my first batch of ducks and they are only a couple months old. You may like our Duck Duck Goose video though ;0)
What a beautiful woman you are....what an informative video you produced - 2 for 2. We've had grown chooks before but this time we want to get chicks so thanks so much for the inspirational information. You go girl!
I can't tell you how many chickens lives I've saved while being a rural route carrier in West Texas. Once a month some farmer would order chickens and sometimes they wouldn't pick them up for days. I'd illegally bring them home and put them under a heat lamp and feed them. Most times the person that ordered them forgot or didn't tell thier spouses they were coming. Most of them thanked me for taking them home an keeping them alive, others didn't care. The ones that did care leave eggs on my porch randomly. Im talking dozens lol. I just couldn't listen to those babies chirping alone in a dark box for days on end. You'd have to be a sociopath to ignore helpless animals. Great video and very informative 👍.
Coronavirus has taught me not to rely on shops for food. I'm building a coup, and a garden tunnel, to sustain myself with food. Thank you for posting this video, it's very informative.
I watched this video 5 years ago when I was 8-10 years old dreaming about owning chickens, now I am turning 15 and building my own coop to finally be able to raise them. You seriously sparked my passion for raising chickens/farm animals and I truly appreciate that. ❤❤
Awesome hun. I hope you enjoy it. We use "stall dry" in our chicken coop ( not the run). We use a kitty litter scoop to sift the chicken poop, it's super quick and clean. If you want you could do it everyday it only takes about 5 min to do our 5x5 coop! They can use it for dustbaths as well. We occasionally put a little Diatomaceous earth in with it, it helps keep them healthy. We've done this for 7 years now! Have fun and good luck! Oh, We used linoleum to line the coop floor. 😉👍
How are your chicks & coop doing Sahmiaya? We also lined the coop floor with linoleum. There is a 2-door access to clean/sweep out the coop quickly. Hoping it works well for us.
For anyone saying the video is long...we live in a culture of instant gratification. Videos are long for a reason. Esp documentary and explanation Videos. By exclaiming videos are “long” pushes the creator to feel insecure about the content and length. It’s possible they then feel they need to shorten their videos which very very often causes them to skip important details or feel rushed. You have control of the feed, you can speed it up or skip. There’s no way to explain things like this beautiful video, in 10min or less 😒 please stop complaining. Beautiful video. Beautiful mama. Beautiful chicks. Thank you you glorious woman 🤗
Also if you don’t have the patience to watch a simple video about caring for chickens then you’re not ready to take on the actual responsibility of raising chickens which can take a lot of patience money and time.
@@jocelynsoria2590 That’s not correct. I feed mine and they have never touched an egg. I also feed back the egg shells to them for extra calcium. Our ancestors have been doing that for centuries. At least my grandparents did and their parents before them. They never had a problem with hens eating their own eggs. I bake mine for a few min in the oven to kill any germs that may be present and crush in a food processor till small crumble size
Omg. This was a great video. I watched the entire video. I was considering getting chickens. But after watching this I know I'm not ready for this. This was absolutely helpful. I'm so glad I saw this and now I can make an educated decision. This was best for me and some future chicks. I would never want to be an irresponsible animal owner. Thanks
I am grateful for this video. I have been referring back to it for almost 2 years now. Anyone that asks about starting out with chickens, gets this video from me. Thank you Jamie and family. ♥
5 minutes in and I'm like "ok this lady knows what she's talking about!" This is an incredible wealth of info. I've been doing urban chickens, but getting them as raised pullets, for about 5 years now. And I think I want to start going the chick route to get more interesting breeds. This is seriously great info. Thanks so much.
I fed my chicken organic feed. Oyster shells all kinds of food scraps. They loved dandelion greens. I hung corn upside down and they loved that. I used the Braggs Apple Cider too. A little bit in water. Also I made garlic tea which they adored. I boiled garlic cloves in water. Let it cool and strain. They love it!!!❤🐣🐤🐥
Here in Hawaii chickens rule the islands. They are every where. i have chickens all over in my yard. And you will find many in front of walmart, and Safeway. The chicken should be Hawaii official state bird lol
This guide is so helpful for anyone starting their backyard chicken journey! The tips are clear, practical, and easy to follow. I love how you break down every step, making it feel less overwhelming for beginners. It's great to see how rewarding raising chickens can be, and this video really boosts confidence to get started! Thank you for sharing such valuable info!
Wow! So much work and knowledge put into this video. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. My dog thanks you too for saying treat so many times. I had to deliver.
I am just getting started with researching and reading all about raising chickens; I haven't even built a coop yet. This is one of the most (actually, THE most) complete and comprehensive video I have yet too see on raising chickens from before you start, to kicking them out of the roost, so to speak. Very well done - you guys did an awesome job! Thank you, thank you, thank you! Because of this, I am more confident than ever to get started.
We should all decentralize the food supply for all the reasons in this video. It’s healthier, is more dependable, it’s more robust and we can all share. That goes for gardens and fruit trees as well. I used to share my fruit with the entire neighborhood for free. I grew up on home grown fruits and vegetables and I am super healthy, look young for my age and I rarely ever get sick. I am positive it’s related to home grown, natural, organic foods. Thanks to my parents and grandparents who did this for me.
I just started chickens and there is some content that just talked about the chicks in the very beginning and then there's tons of videos when they're adults, but none that were as thorough and step-by-step as yours. Thank you for that information on this video. I really liked seeing from the very beginning and following all the way through until you release them into the yard.
I've watched dozens of youtubes to get informed on chickens but still had some questions. This video was exactly what I needed. Thanks so much for the step by step tutorial. I feel so much better about getting my chickens now.
I know you aren't posting chicken videos anymore but I have to thank you for all the ones you've left up. I am getting my first chicks next week and I'm watching this video for the second time, taking copious notes. I am so grateful for all the information on coccidiosis, pasty butt, as well as all your tricks and hacks for caring for them week by week. Thank you for the work and time you put into producing this video and leaving it up!
Thank you very much for this. Making a video is hard work, especially one over an hour, and especially one that spans multiple weeks. Congrats on the patience and thanks again for the dedication. My wife and I sat down on the couch and took notes!
Thanks. I had birds as a teenager and now, at 52, am looking at getting back into chickens. I’m all setup but needed your video to make sure I was on the right track. Great resource!
Mike Amsbaugh obviously you know what you’re doing, BUT if you need any other refreshers I have some videos on my channel. I’m trying to build up a base so it would mean a lot if you visited!
I am a first time chick owner. I was raised on a farm so I took care of chickens growing up but it's always helpful to learn all over again. Thank you for this video. Very helpful.
I watched this video about a year ago. And came back to comment how great it is. All your information was the best. I am a first time chicken mom and your video made it so easy. I started off with 4 pullets and took in two more. I am so excited to add more. Thank you.
I love the way you explain everything. You have a calm and clear way of explaining yourself, and I'm absorbing as much as I can. I also appreciate your long video because it's better than many small ones. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge! I'm excited for next spring!
@@Guildbrookfarm the bloopers at the end were adorable ♡ hahaha I loved, and learned from, every minute of this, and the subsequent videos, I watched by you two. The "30 Things" vid is wonderful! I didn't see anything more current that 1 year. I hope you find your forever homestead and will be back to making vids soon ♡
I live in an inner-city apartment with no garden and I currently have no intention of raising chickens, but this is so interesting and nice to listen to!
I am in the process of applying for a chicken permit and I've watched numerous tutorials on how to raise backyard chickens. I've heard a lot of great things from different people but THIS video is very informative. Not only did you explain what to do while the chickens are still babies, but you went through the entire process of what to do when you receive them as day-old chicks to introducing them to the outside world. I've learned so much from you and I am so thankful I stumbled upon this video. Thanks for your wisdom and insight! I'm ready to be a Hen Mama. ☺️
Hey idk if you’re reading this but thank you very much I watched this video a long time ago at that time I really wanted chickens and after watching this video I felt confident enough and I convinced my parents to get us some chickens here I am a few months later the proud owner of 4 healthy hens and an awesome rooster once again thank you so much
I really must compliment you on this being one of THE BEST & MOST IMPORTANT VIDEOS I've ever watched on starting a Chicken Homestead-or-Farm. I'm interested in starting my own Homestead on a few acres of land with about four egg-layers & a rooster (among other things)! 💓😍💓 You left NOTHING to the imagination in showing just what's involved in starting out raising chicks from Newborns & their care inside your own home, to Outdoor Safety-Procedures at about three weeks old. Then up to a month old and introducing them to the secured Chicken-coop you made for them (and the Grown Hen's Coop & Run, too). 😅😅 Absolutely a pleasure to watch, especially seeing how all their little personalities started to develop!! 😁😁 THIS---is definitely going to be my favorite staple video on Quality Chicken-Care for beginners like me.
Will definitely be watching this video multiple times. Looking at getting 12 chickens, I've never done this before and I'll be stocking up on everything and building everything before hand.
I grew up on a farm…never had chickens…now as an adult I’ve decided to raise some chicks…purchased 14 chicks 6 days ago…I have no idea what Im doing and this video gave me a lot of advice and answer several questions…Thx…I’ll be checking back each week to make sure I’m on track..
Absolutely the best coverage of initiating baby chicks I've ever seen! All the things you cover are precisely the things I learned raising chicks on my own. If someone follows your lead on, they will have incredible success! They need to be taught to do everything. if you do this they will prosper. You really have gotten inside their little heads. Watching this brought me to tears and laughter at the level of insight you show. I never thought of the vinegar and other perks you gave your little guys. Well Done! Those are some seriously happy chicks! You are an awesome caretaker. 3>ps. I raised thousands of baby pheasants doing exactly this.. and only lost 4 or 5 over three years. Pen them up in minimal space the first week. yep.. brilliant!
I purchased chicks that were 3 days old when I purchased them today at 4 days old I’m using this as a guide to get through. Thanks so much; I’ve watched this video 5 million times already lol
I was randomly recommended this video after googling to answer a question about rooster collars, and I ended up watching this whole video. You have a very soothing demeanor and are very thorough with your explanations. Now I sorta wish I lived somewhere that I could raise chickens.
I’m so excited to get out of the military at the end of the year and move back to FL with my husband and children. We are going to buy chicks and runner ducks and have a little garden. This video was a great starter guide!!! Thank you so much! You have me all excited
I hope you NEVER take this video down! I am so happy my chicks passed their 3rd month birthday all 20 are healthy! One Silkie rooster went to my neighbor who was going to wait till Spring till she found out I had a 3 month old! :D So I am down to 9 Silkies and 10 Blue Sapphire hens... I would always refer back to this video anytime I get new baby chicks because it has such good advice! Here out West we have Jenks Hatchery and I was able to pick them up on hatch day directly from the Farm... They do a wonderful job providing healthy new chicks! Again thank you so much!!!!
I agree I hope they will never take down this video. So well done and especially now that so many of us are looking to be even more independent here in 2020, as we have had to deal with the covoid 19 and political nastiness. I am very grateful for all the folks sharing very valuable information to people with little or no knowledge about permaculture, raising food gardens, eggs, or meat of any sort. So many good people sharing many essential skills as they learn, experiment and inform those of us who want to be a lot more self sufficient and prepared for whatever presents itself next. Here is to all of you helping the rest of us learn without having to repeat unnecessary mistakes as we learn. Thanks to all who share the good and those willing to become more self sufficient for the well-being of all of us.
Totally absolutely complete instructions and left nothing to wonder about! You are a thorough and interesting teacher! I am impressed. Thank you and I haven’t seen and heard better instructions with a gift for remaining interesting and pleasant in the entirety. WELL DONE
We have a neighbor that has just hatched 15 chickens and they found out on short notice that they're moving so I now have 15 chickens that I have no idea what to do with. So I ordered a coop which will be here tomorrow and I ordered chick feed and I guess I'm jumping in head first LOL your videos are amazing and very informative I will definitely be a Avid viewer now! Thank you!
they're doing well so far. I have them in my sunroom. They're hyper I know that they keep me on my toes LOL but it's kind of cute watching them grow and interact with you. They definitely know who has the food. I built a little run for them out in the backyard and I'm going to start taking them out and letting them get acquainted with the grass and outside world here in the next couple weeks. My dog loves them which is good, she's a 75 lb Pitbull and she just sits by the cage and watches them while they jump all over her.
Out of a handful of videos I've viewed raising chickens, this by far is the very best. Extremely informative and she covers everything a novice chicken owner needs to know. A wealth of salient information!
My wife and I are diving in to raising chicken on our land for our family, and this is hands down the best guide I've found for beginners. Thanks for taking the time to share this with us, we have so much more confidence now! Can't wait to watch our son with the chickens, he's going to love it
I would use cattle panels with one inch chicken wire over it or hog panels on bottom and lower sides Dogs snukers are big problems along with common city foxes Ideal is to make it strong and not easy to get in to It will pay of and last for ever
Last summer my husband and I began discussing raising chickens. Yours was one of the first videos I watched. So much great info! We are expecting our first flock in about 3 weeks. We are so *eggcited*! 😆 I had to come watch again to get a refresher. This time I felt I understood more because of all the research I've done over the last several months. Thank you so much, and God bless.
Jamie my wife is not an animal person since we raised our chicks to hens they went from my retirement project to her babies. She even named them by personality. She has taken over.I never saw her get so involved.its great 👍
Me also I'm retired just bought 4 acres and small house barely got moved in . I went over to flea market guy had some bb old English bantams year old so I bought 3 to start off . Already started on my pen same day . Got the birds in a dog crate in the basement. Thier loving the basement nice and cool in this hot weather. I got probably 3 acres of woods so I'm building thier pen in the edge for shade . We got foxes and coyotes around so I'm putting a treated floor in thier in thier pen kinda like a deck off the ground about like a dog kennel 6x 8 . But after they've been on the place a couple weeks I'm gonna let them run in the yard in day time when I'm at home. Plus the bantams can fly lots of trees to get in in case of a yote comes calling. Gonna tie some solar lights around it. No wife here but this will help me stay occupied when it's to hot to be out on the lake fishing
im only 19 minutes in and i gotta pause to say, thank you this is by far the most informative video i've seen in a long time and has taught me so much already! this really helps me a lot thank you for taking the time to film+upload!
Excellent video. The fine details you went into were exactly what I needed to know to give me confidence to begin backyard chickens with my 10 year old grandson. You are extremely gifted at teaching what you know. I can watch your one hour video over and over again. I felt like you were talking to me and not a camera. Thank you.
I have always wanted to have chickens-- and now I have space to do it-- This is the first video I watched to get an idea of what I am getting myself into-- and now I am even more excited! Love how you explain things-- can't wait to watch more of your vids-- and start my first coop :)
I live in a fairly cold area in the Ozarks. Winters can get down to single digits at night. I found the 2x4 with the wide side flat work best for roosts. The chicken has to sit on them flat-footed and their body rests on their feet . This keeps their feet and toes warm. I once used wooden closet clothes rods. They have to encircle the rods with their toes exposed to the cold and I had several frostbitten toes. Not a pleasant thing for the owner or chicken.
I really appreciate your attention to detail with everything. Your emotional awareness of various points was stellar. We are preparing to start with chickens in the spring. We have 3 children, and your care in mentioning to be prepared for how the chickens arrive, was SO helpful. Also, those chicks flocking to the food dish as you tapped, made my morning!
AMAZING! after 15 years of being away from the farm life, I didnt know all the basics that my parents knew when running our hobby farm growing up. I came across your videos related to chickens and I've been hooked.. I've decided to start with chickens now that my husband and I have purchased some land and have decided to be more self efficient. Definetly looking forward to seeing different videos as we expand our farm 😁
That was amazing ! It’s March 27,2023. Best video yet ! I took notes through the whole thing . I’m going to have the coolest little chicken coop ever ! Thank you so so much ! ❤
Don’t forget you can also adopt chickens that have been saved from factory farms. They may not lay as many eggs but it’s nice being able to give them love after a rough life.
That may not be such a good idea, birds like the Cornish cross would absolutely suffer if put into the "wrong" hands. They need a meticulous feeding schedule of the absolute bare minimum if you were to raise them as a companion b/c they've been bred so hard to just pack on pounds.
I watched this video a couple of times before I got my chicks last year. I am so glad for the good information you shared. Literally right out of the box I had one with pasty butt and had to as day one chicken owner carefully wash my chick's bottom. It was a big very dry poop that was very stuck to her vent area. I was so careful and very glad that you'd talked about this. Thank you so much for this video. It is full of great information and I really appreciate the time you put into creating this.
What dedication you have. It's so much work to raise chickens in climate that's not tropical. This is so labor intense in the USA. In the tropics we don't go through all these steps. Bless you for your dedication.
I think you guys did a very good job with this video.I don't think we really have much of a choice these days, but to try and raise chickens for at least eggs
Thank you. I saved your video after I got my first chicks, and now onto my 2nd batch watching your video again for a quick refresher. My chicks are doing great!
We used this method and it worked great! EcoGlow 1200, 15 chicks, chick starter and water + we used paper towels the first 1.5 weeks, then switched to pine shavings. We started adding a few drops of apple cider vinegar after 1 week and encountering some hard to deal with pasty butt. After that, no more pasty butt. :-) We add about one teaspoon per gallon of water of "with the mother" organic apple cider vinegar. Normal ACV may not be as helpful. Works a champ :-) We did lose one on day 2.5, but we don't think there was anything we could do to save her. The rest are very healthy and active, and happy today, 2.5 weeks old and we have moved to big girl waterer and feeder. All good so far! We also ordered from My Pet chicken and they have been fantastic.
Wow- just wow! My kinda detailed info. Have had baby chickens a few times over the years. Wish I would have had this video all those times! Thank you for this baby chick 101 class 🐣
Thank you. Very informative. Covers a lot of information on a realistic level - i.e. - it didn't feel like a tutorial; it felt like my good friend (whom I have never actually met or known) was sharing her own experience and knowledge. I truly appreciate that kind of education. Please continue to share.
Great video. Thank you! We are learning as much as we can. My 16 chicks are at 2 weeks today & already getting on top of water & food bottles, they grow so fast it's amazing. We are still working on our outdoor coop and got alot of great ideas from you. This is my 1st time with raising a flock, it is harder than it looks. But, so worth it.
What an excellent, EXCELLENT video! I ordered my 7 black australorps in February and I just got them today!!! I already watched your video once and got everything I needed. Getting the Gaylord box was actually not easy, but I've got it! Thankfully, my post office called me when they got it and I started up the brooder plate and got them. I then eewatched this video. Thank goodness. I set the brooder plate to 110F. After watching, I dropped it back down to 95F. I was so worried about everything I needed to know and thanks to your video, I do! Edit: btw, I ordered my chicks from cackle hatchery and I had a feeling that they'd add in an extra bird, which they did! 😂
Just so you all know, this video has been my go to guide for my new chicks. I have never raised them but I did almost everything here, including buying Corid and all medications and thank God I did. I needed it five days in! I also have the watermelon bin for later down the road. Thank you!!!!!
Hello, I just want to say thank you so much for this video. I have watched it every year before my new chicks arrive, this year being the first time that I'm not as i don't need it any longer. I have passed it along to others. I think this video alone can turn someone into a fully responsible and successful chicken owner. Thank you!! I also yell CHUCK CHUCK CHUCK to get my hens back at night time, people really get a kick of watching them fly across the yard for snacks.
Dave W Haha 😆 that’s what I do to... I watched it all last year thinking I would get chicks, but I got 2 mo old chickens, this July, I’m getting the younguns... again, watching it every few weeks, even though I’ve done all the research... I just like to feel productive😆
thank you; first timers here - just built a run for the coop and waiting for our first batch of chicks to arrive. this has been very helpful. Will be getting all the supplies ready for their arrival.
Holy smokes I'm so ready for chickens. I've wanted some for years and this is the first video that helped me feel comfortable and confident enough to do it. I can't wait for my chickens in April!
Sadly enough I want chickens to have something to do in life. I go to college, I work, but there is nothing else to do besides that ;-;. Chickens just feel right.
I've never commented on a UA-cam video but I honestly have to say, THANK YOU! This was such a great video and after watching this I feel so much more prepared to start my first flock. I've been wanting to raise chickens for years and I think this spring will be the one. Thanks again for helping me out!
Excellent tutorial. Yes, I got through the whole video. Like a lot of folks, I'm interested in being more self sufficient and found this very helpful. Thank you for putting this together with such care and detail. You earned a new subscriber and I'll be watching your other videos to learn more.
You are so awesome! You explain all your lessons very well. You are truly engaged in teaching us how to be self sufficient. I have been watching different videos for several weeks during this virus junk and height thank you! Keep up the good work. I wish I were 20 years younger I’d go Homestead. I’m 60 years old with an extremely bad back. Three operations over the last 15 years for a disease called spondylolisthesis. You are an inspiration! From Idaho with respect and prayers for your success. ☮️🌹💕
Absolutely a wonderful video! 10 outta 10! I have 4 new baby chicks, now a week old, and I've been searching on what to do next, then next... lol . My prayers were answered, and I'm doing exactly what you've showed in this video. Now it's EASY! Thanks for sharing your experiences. : )
Thank you for this video, I am going to be starting growing chickens. This has been the best information I have gotten, thank you for your knowledge and sharing.
Wow... you are an amazing teacher and chicken grower! Thanks so much for sharing step-by-step how to start chicks. I only have some distant childhood memories of my Grandparents raising chicks in Europe..and I am thinking of getting a few for a small egg production once I purchase a property, hopefully this year...I absolutely love your homestead, and I appreciate all your pressure canning videos etc. I am learning so much!! ..thank you millions for taking the time to do these videos!.
Wow I can't believe this video was up 2 year's ago and it has soooooo many two week 3week commenter's thank you so much for taking the time to make this video with a mix of all your knowledge and experience I'm ready
Four months ago I watched your video and others too. But your video helped me to get confident. Finally end of September we bought 6 chicks and now they are 3 months old chicken. We are having so much fun to see them grow. We built a 10 by 10 feet run and trying to finish the 4 by 6 feet coop in this week. Can't way to see them laying eggs. Thank you for the video.
Getting my chickies on may 6. I have wanted chickens for years, and I’ve finally decided to go for it. You are wonderful at explaining everything! I am subscribing and saving this video!
Melissa M congrats!! We are waiting on our first ever batch too🐥. I’m excited and nervous & unprepared😹. But thanks for this amazing video of instructions I know we can do it but I’ll prolly be watching this over and over 😄
Thanks so much for your video. My hubby and Iwill be new chicken parents in March 2025. I have listened to multiple chicken videos on new chick's, coop building, and raising them in general. Although lengthy, I thought you did a great job! Thanks for taking the time to make a video for those of us who are doing our best to learn before "parenting." Yes, I do understand that one video can not inform of the many scenarios in raising chick's but I am grateful for yours. Happy chickening!
Whoa! Did you get through that long video?! If you want to watch more videos on chickens (and shorter ones!) check out our Chickens Ducks and Geese Playlist: Full Chicken Playlist: goo.gl/qbMjtR Thanks for watching!
Guildbrook Farm | Simple Sustainable Living Could you do a video on ducks, duck ponds, and coops?
As soon as I get some experience in that area...right now I am on my first batch of ducks and they are only a couple months old. You may like our Duck Duck Goose video though ;0)

What a beautiful woman you are....what an informative video you produced - 2 for 2. We've had grown chooks before but this time we want to get chicks so thanks so much for the inspirational information. You go girl!
Why do all the chicken breads sound like sexual innuendos
I can't tell you how many chickens lives I've saved while being a rural route carrier in West Texas. Once a month some farmer would order chickens and sometimes they wouldn't pick them up for days. I'd illegally bring them home and put them under a heat lamp and feed them. Most times the person that ordered them forgot or didn't tell thier spouses they were coming. Most of them thanked me for taking them home an keeping them alive, others didn't care. The ones that did care leave eggs on my porch randomly. Im talking dozens lol. God bless you man.
Good human
You're wonderful
Thanks 4 caring, even though humans didn’t ❣️❣️❣️Glad u didn’t loose your job, I got fired for being a good LNA & giving 2 much 💗💗💗
Coronavirus has taught me not to rely on shops for food. I'm building a coup, and a garden tunnel, to sustain myself with food. Thank you for posting this video, it's very informative.
Smart thinking friend, unfortunately my town does not allow chickens which is horrible
Same
Same !
Me too!! Been talking about it for years, time to get on with it, this is a kick up the ass!!
Jay Jay me too! Just got started with 12 chicks...been gardening for years...stay safe, good luck and blessings🙏🏻💖
As a mail carrier I always drop the chicks off first ,and they ride up front with me 😊
❤️🙏❤️
This was better than an evening of Netflix. Now I feel like I know more about raising chickens than I do about women. You are an awesome teacher!!
I watched this video 5 years ago when I was 8-10 years old dreaming about owning chickens, now I am turning 15 and building my own coop to finally be able to raise them. You seriously sparked my passion for raising chickens/farm animals and I truly appreciate that. ❤❤
How is the flock?
Well said!
Also if you don’t have the patience to watch a simple video about caring for chickens then you’re not ready to take on the actual responsibility of raising chickens which can take a lot of patience money and time.
Good point. If someone is serious about raising chickens, this video is much better than your typical 10 minute video on youtube.
To the people freaking out about feeding scrambled eggs to chicks: the eggs aren't fertilized so it's more like breastfeeding than it is cannibalism.
Charly Thompson it CAN make them get a taste for eggs, and some may begin to eat raw eggs.
I have the attention span of a gnat and I just watched an hour and a quarter tv show about chickens. Commercials too! Way to go on the engaging show.
The chicken should be Hawaii official state bird lol
omg thats so cool. ive heard of chickens being all over hawaii
learned more in the first 2 minutes in this video then all my searches on chickens, thanks huge thumbs up
Honestly 😅
This guide is so helpful for anyone starting their backyard chicken journey! The tips are clear, practical, and easy to follow. I love how you break down every step, making it feel less overwhelming for beginners. It's great to see how rewarding raising chickens can be, and this video really boosts confidence to get started! Thank you for sharing such valuable info!
Wow! So much work and knowledge put into this video. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. My dog thanks you too for saying treat so many times. I had to deliver.
Hahaha
Great video. I have been raising chickens for sixty years and glad to see our younger generations are raising chickens.
I've watched dozens of youtubes to get informed on chickens but still had some questions. This video was exactly what I needed. Thanks so much for the step by step tutorial. I feel so much better about getting my chickens now.
We just got our first chicks a week ago so this was helpful. Very well done presentation. In fact I'd say eggcellent.
I'm only 20 minutes in and this is already by far the most informative and comprehensive video on backyard chickens I've found. Thank you!
I cannot tell you enough of how grateful I am for this video. IDC about the length. It was very relaxing and educating to watch. Thank you!💜💛💚
Thank you very much for this. Making a video is hard work, especially one over an hour, and especially one that spans multiple weeks. Congrats on the patience and thanks again for the dedication.
My wife and I sat down on the couch and took notes!
Just an awesome tutorial. Felt like I was in a real classroom. So glad I found you. Invaluable info for a new hen owner to be.. 🙏😊🐣🐥
You are a life saver. We got crazy and bought some baby chics aand know nothing. Binge watching youtube videos. Thank you so much!
I was impressed that you are such an expert after only four batches. That gives me hope as someone who hasn’t raised any before.
I am a first time chick owner. I was raised on a farm so I took care of chickens growing up but it's always helpful to learn all over again. Thank you for this video. Very helpful.
This may be the longest youtube video I've watched all the way through. I really didn't intend to, but you just kept me glued.
I watched this video about a year ago. And came back to comment how great it is. All your information was the best. I am a first time chicken mom and your video made it so easy. I started off with 4 pullets and took in two more. I am so excited to add more. Thank you.
Simpler than I thought. Thank you for not putting all of this into separate videos.
I love the way you explain everything. You have a calm and clear way of explaining yourself, and I'm absorbing as much as I can. I also appreciate your long video because it's better than many small ones. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge! I'm excited for next spring!
+TzG07 Good luck!
That was 3 years ago. A LOT has happened since.
I have watched a lot of different people on this subject. You are heads above the rest. You are the true chicken whisperer.
Hey idk if you’re reading this but thank you very much I watched this video a long time ago at that time I really wanted chickens and after watching this video I felt confident enough and I convinced my parents to get us some chickens here I am a few months later the proud owner of 4 healthy hens and an awesome rooster once again thank you so much
Awesome 😎 Congrats! 🐥 🐓
You left NOTHING to the imagination in showing just what's involved in starting out raising chicks from Newborns & their care inside your own home, to Outdoor Safety-Procedures at about three weeks old. Then up to a month old and introducing them to the secured Chicken-coop you made for them (and the Grown Hen's Coop & Run, too). 😅😅
Absolutely a pleasure to watch, especially seeing how all their little personalities started to develop!!
Pen them up in minimal space the first week. yep.. brilliant!
Thank you ☺️
I purchased chicks that were 3 days old when I purchased them today at 4 days old I’m using this as a guide to get through. Thanks so much; I’ve watched this video 5 million times already lol
I've watched this 3 times now. Finally about to start our flock. Thank you.
You can do it!
Thank you for your service.
Thank you!
How are they doing?
Oh wow! What a blessing. That’s so awesome you were happy to take on the challenge. Hope all is going well 🤗
they're doing well so far.
I have a pit bull, so kind to smaller creatures aren’t they, gentle ❤️
Out of a handful of videos I've viewed raising chickens, this by far is the very best. Extremely informative and she covers everything a novice chicken owner needs to know. A wealth of salient information!
My wife and I are diving in to raising chicken on our land for our family, and this is hands down the best guide I've found for beginners. Thanks for taking the time to share this with us, we have so much more confidence now! Can't wait to watch our son with the chickens, he's going to love it
Glad it was helpful!
I would use cattle panels with one inch chicken wire over it or hog panels on bottom and lower sides
Dogs snukers are big problems along with common city foxes
Ideal is to make it strong and not easy to get in to
It will pay of and last for ever
@@philliphall5198 Thanks for the advice man! I appreciate the info, we're pretty new to this but excited to start
We started raising chickens a year ago and I watched this video today and learned several new tips! Thank you!
I have been watching tons of videos as a beginer. This is by far the most helpful one I have found! Thank you!
Thanks for all the effort that goes into a video this long and comprehensive. Makes me more confident in getting my first chickens this spring
im only 19 minutes in and i gotta pause to say, thank you this is by far the most informative video i've seen in a long time and has taught me so much already! this really helps me a lot thank you for taking the time to film+upload!
I Painted my coop red and white
With a Col. Sanders and KFC on it..
Egg production tripled in 3 days
That was funny😁
Very funny!!
THANK YOU we are embarking on this journey and NOW I feel much more confident after watching your video
AMAZING!
after 15 years of being away from the farm life, I didnt know all the basics that my parents knew when running our hobby farm growing up.
at first i thought getting chickens was gunna be annoying and hard but i’m literally so attached and in love with them💕🥺
Look up chicken tractor..no more cleaning coop...
What's the process like in the tropics?
Hi! I just wanted to thank you for this video! I watched it the first time I got chickens, and now I'm back refreshing my memory. Thank you!
Thank you. Very informative. Covers a lot of information on a realistic level - i.e. - it didn't feel like a tutorial; it felt like my good friend (whom I have never actually met or known) was sharing her own experience and knowledge. I truly appreciate that kind of education. Please continue to share.
The most comprehensive beginners video I’ve seen 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Can't thank you enough. Its so nice to see the whole process in one vid. All the best!!!!
Pick up the book Storey's Guide to Raising Chickens. It's a good reference to have on hand if you're new to chickens.
Now 2 weeks old
A very good presentation, full of explantion on how to order to how to take care of chicken, very good. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you for this video, I am going to be starting growing chickens. This has been the best information I have gotten, thank you for your knowledge and sharing.
This is the best chick video I’ve ever seen. It was very informative and clear, thank you so much. Looking forward to more videos.
Wow... you are an amazing teacher and chicken grower!
Wow, I just found this video and I am going to get chickens soon. Thank you for all the great information!! Keep you posted as to my chicken journey!
Newbie to raising chickens here. This was so helpful. Thank you!!! My 10 yr old and I learned a lot!!
Thanks for taking the time to make a video for those of us who are doing our best to learn before "parenting."
Yes, I do understand that one video can not inform of the many scenarios in raising chick's but I am grateful for yours.
Happy chickening!
