I collect mtg cards big hobby
I bought a ziploc baggie full of 50 or so cards from a random guy online, who asked me to meet at a subway station. 40 bucks for them all. Normally I'd ignore, but a few of them looked real old and had black borders, so I figured why not take a shot and hope to find some good old cards.
Ended up getting a Beta Scrubland and Beta Forcefield.
About 5 years ago I used to find absolutely amazing hauls, one time there was this lady with a massive amount of cards that she just wanted to give away for free since they were taking up space. Alot of amazing kamigawa rares and 20 SEALED UN SET PACKS, one of the best days of my life for sure.
I pray to get such a lucky find! Also, love the Crystal Castles profile pic!!
@@FozzyFUCT thanks dude, sick to see another mtg fan that likes crystal castles!
That’s so sick!!
im in awe
Matt: How much for the Magic cards?
Seller: $1 each.
Matt: $200 for all of them?
**Speech increased to 100**
Well he's a seller he probably bought all those cards for 50 bucks or something, he definitely made a good profit there.
@@taserrr To make profit he need to sell them, most of them don't look NM to me. I wonder if he will break event. It's also harder to sell sub-5$ cards.
@@mrgibson69 No I meant the store owner still made a decent profit.
The seller was definitely someone who knew some of them were worth money but was too lazy to sort through them....hence the $1.00 a card price....hope nobody who didn't know better bought random cards at that price.....would not feel good to buy 10-20 of them to find out later you only got 1-2 dollars of value. Especially considering that 99% of those cards are valued at significantly less than a dollar apiece. Overall 200 dollars seems like it was a fair offer for all concerned parties.
@@rogerballoujr.6244 yes, because many of those 'dollar' cards are in reality only worth a dime, because unless you have a permanent shop you will never find buyers for those cards, unless you put in an insane amount of time, in which case your hourly 'wage' would be tiny
the gold bordered ones pushed it to 600, probably 700 or 800 in total. nice
The bright yellow borders on the championship decks aren't marker; that's just how those cards wear. The gold border rubs off REALLY easily, and it looks like someone was doing some unsleeved shuffles with these things. Kind of understandable since championship decks weren't worth a damn until like two years ago. Definitely heavy play rather than marked / damaged.
those are useless cards.
the Ancient Tomb - 1999 Heavily played still goes for $17-22 on tcg, he had 3 at the end there@@thoticcusprime9309
city of traitors same on tcg ~$11-14 heavily played
I thought that's what they were as well
There was a dimir house guard around the 30:30 & 31:00 mark. Dark Deal at 31:30 mark is a $4 card. Stinkweed imp at 32:00. Bone Miser at 32:30 mark. Impact tremor around 42:30 is a $4 card.
1:14:38 That sealed deck is a Keyforge deck, another Richard Garfield card game. Fairly new. Not as good as MtG but playable nevertheless.
nice thing to have if u got 10 bucks on u and a group of bored friends lol
Apples and oranges. Keyforge is a low cost easy to play game which does not involve collecting cards and building a deck. Many who have played MTG, since the very beginning, including myself, get burned out by it as there are simply too many cards now and it is lovely to have a break from all of that.
one thing you may consider that other channels do is they fast forward through all the bulk stuff and just slow down for the good stuff. either way, i'm still jealous of people being able to find deals like this. =D
Please no, I enjoy seeing everything
Enjoy the videos! Those “highlighter” cards are from a 1999 World Championship Deck that Kai Budde ran like a promo deck you could buy. If you had the full deck they sell for north of $200!
Damn the value!! Who buys every single commander precon and just, let's it go?? Great pulls
There are quite a few cards there that you could bring to big vendors like SCG to buylist for the nickels and dimes. That's how I got my first Black Lotus :)
That’s legit!
@@MagicMetalMoney it took many, many 1000 count boxes and many, many hours, but it was worth it
@@thesnax9177 that’s a great story of diligence!!
The one thing that you need is a scanner on screen to check the prices as you go... its hard to watch sometimes when you are pulling bulk and getting excited over it
So much missed value in the uncommons. Would be curious to see how much the total value is if you go back and check values on more cards
He missed some good ones worth more than a few bucks but I’m sure he’ll go through them again sometime down the line and get a nice surprise

Who the hell sell the cards on flea market nowadays? It has no sense.
Lots of good cards. Shows that it belonged to players at some point. Even though many are not worth a dollar, a great amount of cards are just good and playable. Great find!
Just a dockside just chilling........nice hit there !!!!!
Love seeing when you hit your buy price, and especially going beyond it to make a little profit
It usually happens 40% of the time for me. But it always feels good when I do!
1:14:44
Someone probably already said this but that's from another Richard airfield game called keyforge. The main selling point of the game is it's a sealed only game. You buy a deck and each deck has a unique card back. you get tired of the deck you buy a new one.
Thank you 🙏
No flea markets near us selling cards, most are overcharging massively and only have new cards.
Hopefully your luck changes soon
kind've late to the party, but i quite enjoyed this. watched the whole thing, great find!
I would of loved to make it out with a dockside and fierce guardianship for $2
A guy working on my house saw us playing and said he had a box of them he found in the trash. We gave him 60 bucks. A lot of proxies, 4 black lotus fakes, but we all came out with quality rares and .mythics
What a find!
1 hour and 24 minutes of sorting a random buy 🥲🥲 god i'm so happy!🤣i can't wait to dive in! Let's goooooooo
Nice score Matt! It never ceases to amaze me how often decent collections like this get let go, and the span of time, Urza's to MH1. Looks like someone was a serious deck builder with multiple commander decks deconstructed and roughly sorted. I'll bet the flea market guy had sold some great stuff to the pickers for a dollar each for a couple years and then put it away when he stopped getting sales at that price. You were the right guy to make the offer. Great job!
Lets play a drinking game. Take a shot whenever he says "UNBELIVABLE"
34:05 Haunted Crossroads - just over $2
Hearing Dockside at $7 such a short time ago Is tiring
Elves of Deep Shadow, great card, around the 21:40 mark
The championship cards aren't highlighted, the gold borders are just super prone to fading and turn that weird neon color
I'm going to go ahead and say total value here will be around $250-400$.......The last few random eBay lots I bid on went for alot more than what I bid on, a couple looked really promising too :( , but if the price isn't right it just isn't right.
I don't have any of those championship cards, I'd love to get some of those :) ...... good to see you get a nice double up and more on this random buy :)
Watched the whole thing I like longer videos. I also find these to be super Interesting
These are the kinds of buys i used to look for ages ago, anytime i went up to that flea market (i used to live in mississauga) the only place that had Magic knew what he had
man if those world championship cards were not inked they would be good
Those beat up citytriaters and grimonlth in those conditions still go for $50 to $100 each keep them for your self they will still go up in value. Very very great buy well done.
that is completely nuts! they are just proxies... you might as well buy chinese proxies or make them yourself if you go for that... I have shoeboxes full of these pro tour decks, as we did indeed use them for playtesting back in the day because it played better than using just text written with a sharpie on a bunch of swamps.
Great video Matt, and kudos on getting it out so quick considering the amount of cards to look up and the amount of editing! Yowza!
Seriously must be soooo much work!
See I have a box of "bulk" rares that is "worth" around 3k. The issue is that its so hard to sell/trade cards that cheap
thats why its worth 300, instead of 3000.. as you already found out, to quote our goblin friends: time is money!
21:37 Two Elves of Deep Shadows English versions sit around 3 so I'd imagine foreign versions are over a buck
good eye
Sweet I didn't even know you did a Patreon giveaway!!! , Been wanting to watch this and see what u pull, ......I started collecting every version of land from every set, I've been trying to get the older lands but man are they hard to find and costly, keep up the great videos matt, I'm looking forward to the CB box opening for channel members and subs next week, also did you get a chance to play at your LGS pre release event?
Yep! Giving away 4 world championship decks at the end of the month. I did go. Had a blast playing the new set. But didn’t win much lol
Nice to see someone else who loves the old basics, I don't really seek them out but when I come across them I definitely add them to the collection... Love to do some framed display of an old block of lands...
Great Video! Keep up the good work
Thanks Cody!
@@MattcasterMage I had tried out my first random buy on Facebook market place. It cost $30 and the total value of everything came to $60ish dollars
@@coderlinc80 Not to bad. Doubled your money!
Welcome to the hunt Cody :) . Pretty good for your first time, it is addicting
It's not surprising how many rares were in there I believe this collection belonged to a commander player a 1 of format so lot's of rares
I paid $30 I got a box of maybe 6000 cards up hold 10 mystic remoras about 70 dark rituals and two shocks. I got lucky that my cousin In-Law didn’t look through the box before he brought it to me
Watching you sort while I sort lol. Fun video.
I'm so pumped for this!
I am indeed having a beer and sorting cards while i watch this. Cheers!
Bought some bulk (7000+) from one of my moms friends and pulled over 1500 cards that were rare or mythic. All for $100 and it had 2 whips of Erobos in them! Which valued more than i paid
Matt, just curious, how much time do you have invested in the entire process of, driving to the flea market, time at the flea market, purchase of the MTG cards, the return trip, sorting, filming and editing the video?
Great question. This one in particular was 12 hours of work.
@@MattcasterMage you're a machine. I watched the purchase video yesterday, and thought to myself that we wouldn't see the sorting video for a couple days. Appericiate everything you do Matt.
@@MTG69 appreciate your support dude
@@MattcasterMage if we pay you let's say $20 an hour, that illustrates nicely why the value of these cards is so much lower than the 'listed value' and why a dealer would not pay $50 for those boxes , it;s just to much work for them to make any profit
Awesome find, and an even more awesome amount of editing! I've had a few bulk purchases from eBay where I more than made my money back, but didn't capture on video. Last time I did that, it took a full 24 hours of editing for a decent-sized lot😬
Yeah these are no picnic to edit lol
Yeah check that last pile with all the world champion deck cards. Fetches, grim monolith, ancient tombs and Entombs are worth stuff. Might have to sign up for October because I really really need more world championships cards!
Those crashing drawbridges seem to be in high demand, lots of Canadian sites are out or low. Great common. Also those Rebecca Guay basics are something I collect when I see them! Also any old innistrad, lorwyn, kamigawa and old border basics. Also dockside is 90 bucks canadian, half your purchase! Those championship deck cards I think are great for commander and casual play with friends, I had meant to grab some priest of titania but I slept on it and they sold out. Oh well, great video
Hey man been watching your videos for a couple days now I just recently got back into playing MTG I played back in early highschool I’m also a fellow Canadian down in Windsor Acually so it was dope to know your close to home love the vids keep it up
I know this is an old video and someone else probably already said this, but those world champ cards (gold bordered grim monolith, ancient tomb) are actually worth some money ~20 USD each
Honestly for the prices should add everything over .5 dollars instead of a whole dollar. Would get more realistic value
True, I think he’s just concerned about the ones over a dollar because typically LGS’s will only accept those for trade.
Painting Miniatures while watching on a rainy Saturday in Glasgow, Scotland.
Hey Matt I was at the same booth in August but didn't think to ask if they had any! Try St. Jacobs market - I haven't been there this year but they usually have different vendors at their flea market in the summer.
Great buy. Wish where I lived now had flea markets/swap meets more like where I’m from in Los Angeles area
Because they cant tax it that's y lol
@@TheDude8008S true that
I would go through the lands with the tcg app. The older lands can have some real value, even for the basics.
you can put in a separate pile all the elves you got to sell as a bulk. :) also, keep the rebecca guay basic lands
I’m close to the 400 flea market just outside Barrie. I haven’t been there in a long time. Maybe I should check it out.
You gotta check it out! Let me know if it’s any good. I may go there in the next few weeks
Chainer's edict is like a 5 dollar uncommon even if you aren't including those championship cards there's some value there regardless
lol this video is so long Matt x3
I love it though, man you make foils look so good.
@14:43 This is a Keyforge deck
The 1 thumbs down is the seller
Great buy👍🏻 A complete mish mash of new and old cards. The best kind of lot.
I bought a collection of 250 cards off this girl who recently broke up with her boyfriend for 20 bucks. I went through it, 4 snapcaster mages, 2 liliana of the veil, 2 tarmygouf, all kinds of fetch lands. I sold it to my local game store for 1,200 dollar's. It was insane
Oh, most of those foreign cards you saw were Japanese not Chinese btw. On that note.... I saw some Japanese Forests basic lands near the end, not really worth a lot but really neat, especially if you collect Japanese MTG cards like myself, if you don't want them, I'd pay for shipping if you'd give them to meeee!?! :)
The find aged well, Gratz on your find. Tons of card with value.
@18:05 Life / Death is worth at least a dollar.
21:36 2 x Elves of Deep Shadow about a dollar each.
1st 30 seconds into the video:
Him: Local
Him: 40 min drive
@@NFiniteCombos 🤣 welcome to Toronto
I saw a few 5 dollar cards skimmed over, such as Dark Deal and Mageslayer
I'm very curious, how do you recommend someone get into buying collections the way you do?
In physical stores do you just ask "hey do you have magic cards?". What places do you recommend to check the most and why?
get a time machine, the days of this kind of wheeling and dealing are over
Nice pickup it’s definitely worth more than 200$ I’m only at 4:10
I’m only 5 minutes in… did you ever figure out what was with the green borders? Are they like old Worlds decks?
gold cards have respectable value at about a quarter of the reg edition which is not to shabby at all.
Also there was atleast a few merciless executioners from fate reforged that are around $1.50!
At 1:02:51 you missed a few Angels of Vitality that are worth a little over a buck apiece....on a seperate note great find....not bad for what you paid. I'd say that everyone comes away from this deal happy except any poor schmucks who may have paid a buck apiece for them if they had no idea what they were actually buying.....99% of those cards were worth significantly less than the 1 dollar apiece asking price.
There's only one flea market that I know of around me and it's a decent distance away and no one likes to barter with pricing
LOL Man I cant even get a flow going i have to stop for rares and mythics all the time. LOL Nice find
those goldborder grim monolith and city of traitors are worth quite a bit of money I believe. obviously not anywhere near as much as the real copies but still.
That's crazy!
I've tried looking around where I live for lots like this, but never been able to find any
The dark deal from fate reforged at 31:35 is a couple bucks!
I've gotten a deal like this only once ever. The guy was selling his entire collection for rent money. He was asking $200 but I literally only had $50 to spare so I made him an offer. Got over 10,000 cards for $50, mostly bulk of course but there was some great stuff in there.
Ha that’s awesome! Remember any specific great cards?
@@MagicMetalMoney off the top of my head there was a Chandra from Kaladesh (Torch of Defiance?) and a playset of Skullclamps.
@@Pit_Wizard oh nice! Yep, Torch of Defiance AKA the best Chandra.
32:30 You have a Bone Miser which is like $3
Fierce Guardianship aged well
Sage of Epityr! I've been looking for that card for so long! Jealousy! It is pretty hard to find in the non-online second hand market.
1:00:52 I've recently made a video on white border significance where I used Rubinia Soulsinger as the example of how a card can have a $120 black border Legends version and a fifty cent white border Chronicles version. I feel like the white borders are soon going to become more relevant and sought after by the newer players, though. It's probably wise to sit on all the white bordered rares of the olden days and get them for the low when there's a chance.
that was actually fun to watch
I’ve got more cooking before Christmas
I remember when you got the long one... 🤣
I been so keen on buying a collection like this !!
I'll literally give my left ball sack for it !
Really enjoyed this video! Cheers!
42:25 Impact Tremors
59:45 Mage Slayer
1:07:05 Twinblade Paladin (I think I've seen another one before that as well)
how you just blast through the og Ravnica lands without giving credit to the beautiful artworks on them (especially the islands!). Few months ago i paid hard Euros to get them. The letter was so thick, the custom service opened it because it came from a foreign country and they thought it was drugs, lol :D
Congratulations to this insane buy! The seller can't be the one who once bought these cards :D
Nice! I love seeing people get a win!
59:47 Mage Slayer $3+ in played condition
At the end you should show all the top cards
At time of recording devotion druid was like 10 usd. You had several.
Matt thanks for the wrappers!!
from a dollar to a nickel a card, thats some high level barganing skills right there
Mage Slayer equipment at 59:47 is $3-5 dollar card depending on the set. You missed it ole buddy.
Just started watching this. Hope you’re able to find some OS cards in there for your deck 👍
That was very cool wish I could find something like that….
