    Hi Lisa. Thank you for the great video of the Metro supermarket. There are some aspects that Metro reminds me of Costco such as the wide aisles, storage racks, and the massive shopping carts. The two majors things that I liked that Metro has that Costco doesn't is the wide selection of products and that you can purchase individual items. With Costco, everything is sold in bulk and you can't buy like one toothbrush or one tube of toothpaste. You need to buy a whole package containing 5 toothbrushes or 4 tubes of toothpaste. Keep on doing the great work that you do in giving us glimpses of life in Russia. I absolutely love it.

    • @roddroid
      @roddroid 5 місяців тому +2

      Looks like "Costco" actually is exactly what Metro is, not in Russia, but in France.
      In France you aren't supposed to buy anything in individual items in Metro supermarkets. You are not supposed to shop there if you don't own a business (like a shop, or a restaurant) either.

    • @zerfer13
      @zerfer13 5 місяців тому +2

      @@roddroid I didn't know that Metro in France is for business owners. But it makes a lot of sense since we have similar stores like that only for business owners since they pay no sales tax. With Costco, it's a wholesale warehouse, not a supermarket. Everything is sold in bulk sizes and also there's an annual membership fee that must be paid. It won't let you pay at the registers if your membership has expired.

    The Metro reminds me a lot of a Costco, Sam’s Club or a Walmart Super Store. But it’s most similar (IMO) to a Sam’s Club which is a membership-only warehouse club. Premium membership costs something like 100 dollars. Sam’s Club is owned by Walmart.
    P.S. Love your channel, Lisa.

    Oh, herring for potatoes! Good choice, I've bought it myself more than once. Delicious. Tomato paste from Metro, I order it all the time. But for some reason it tastes sweet, even though it contains no sugar. Familiar fruits in syrup.
    О, селёдочка к картошке! Хороший выбор, сам не раз брал. Очень вкусно. Томатная паста от Метро, постоянно заказываю. Только почему-то она сладковата, хотя в составе сахара нет. Знакомые фрукты в сиропе.

    Lisa, good shopping time!. The prices are not to high, comparing the same ones with the colombian`s today supermarket, same size, regarding availability, immense inventory, brands, everything I could see. If there`s someone claiming "embargo and sanctions successful program", It`s absolutely wrong or do not see any footage like this one, as well. Speaking about sanctions, it`s really funny checking western and european beers, wines and all that stuff coming from those countries. Nice video, good for Russian Federation, you`re up to the circumstances, so look forward for the prosperity and good future ahead. A salute, cheers, from Bogota, Colombia. And take care, everyone there.

    It's a popular chain of a whole sale supermarkets. We have it here in Bulgaria, and I know they have stores in Romania. Pretty much most East European countries have Metro stores. I guess it's a copycat (kind of) of Costco. But still very popular in my country among other supermarket chains like Kauffland, Lidl, and Billa. All of them are German companies, apart from Billa( it's an Austrian brand)

      @ВячеславТихонов-о3х 4 місяці тому +1

      It's not a matter of lack or availability of money. Firstly, the Metro hypermarket was initially only for entrepreneurs and was closed to ordinary people. Now anyone can open an electronic guest card and visit this hypermarket. Secondly, in our city with a population of about 500 thousand people, we also have a Metro, and I often shop there. But! I’ve never been there and I only have a rough idea of what it’s like inside from videos like this one. All because I order food through delivery. Thirdly, there are a lot of small shops and supermarkets around me. For example, within walking distance from me there are two Magnit and two Pyaterochka grocery stores, as well as a fairly large Spar supermarket. And in Russia there is no tradition of buying food for the week. You can buy groceries at a nearby store at any time. Well, fourthly. More than 15 years have passed since the opening of the Spar and Lenta supermarkets, but I have been to them at most five times. There's just such a buzz there all day, these crowds of people with carts. Just crazy!

    This is not intended to be critical, just something you might want to be aware of. When showing a US dollar amount, the dollar sign does not go at the end. It should be at the beginning such as $2.50 not 2.5$. We also do not truncate the zero, as there should always be two digits after the decimal point.

    I loved getting to see your version of Costco there in Russia! You have a lot of variety and in many cases, even more selections than we're used to here in the US. It seems that the easiest way to convert your prices to ours here in the US is to drop the last two numbers of the price. If it's 5648 for you, it's 56 for us.
    When it comes to economics, there's something that must be asked. Our currency, the dollar, is declining in value at a staggering rate. Given this, I have to ask, do you feel that paying 4800 for what you bought on this trip was a good use of your money? Over the last few years we've seen prices skyrocket on practically everything. I hope that isn't the case for you folks over in Russia!

    За вино поясню. Французы по сути законодатели современных винных традиций, международных сортов во всем мире. Поэтому не стоит удивляться что в России, ЮАР, КНР или в Чили например в названии виноделен, линеек винной продукции или вин есть словечки Крю, Шато итд))..Это не есть подделка, закосом и даже подражание не совсем. Просто что-то уже когда-то устоявшееся и хорошо сделанное. Как обозначение частей конструкции Колеса. И ты просто делаешь что-то в таком стиле или около того. Можно назвать вино Красный Медведь 2 или Гиацинт 3. Это же будет так по русски? Но разве Россия создала виноделие в том виде в котором оно есть? Или мы делаем что-то совсем другое когда делаем вино в современном стиле? Нет! ) Тем не менее в России сегодня делают хорошие вина и вина компании Chateau Le Grand Vostock (создатель иностранец работавший и живший в России и он пригласил из Франции пару молодых виноделов) или вот мне нравится мощное мужское вино Крю Лермонт от компании Фанагория. Как-раз отличное время их попробовать в дни Российских вин). В России тоже есть некоторые своя история виноделия, автохтонные сорта итд. Виноделие в России сильно развилось за последние 20 лет. Я помню как будучи студентом заходил в супермаркет с хорошей винной полкой. И там из Российских вин от силы было немного вина из Тамани. Помню Фанагорию например. И чаще всего это было не сухое а сладкое вино ала Кагор или Изабела).
