“Shower him with all earthly blessings, drown him in happiness completely, over his head, so that only bubbles pop up on the surface of happiness, as on water; give him such economic satisfaction that he no longer has anything left to do at all except sleep, eat gingerbread, and worry about the non-cessation of world history - and it is here, just here, that he, this man, out of sheer ingratitude, out of sheer lampoonery, will do something nasty.

He will even risk his gingerbread, and wish on purpose for the most pernicious nonsense, the most non-economical meaninglessness, solely in order to mix into all this positive good sense his own pernicious fantastical element.”

I am forever grateful for my earthly blessings, sleep and gingerbread. Pernicious nonsense has never been a part of my life and idle hands have never gotten me into trouble. I find joy in health, fitness, nature and love.

Tiss is such a smart boy and seems to be absorbing all the influences around him like a sponge. I doubt if he would have given the same answer or even been thinking about such things at his age if he had been born and raised in UK or anywhere in the so called “developed world”. He is such a caring boy who is one with his surroundings. I am sure he must make you and Damo so proud.❤😊

Ryan, you are a “naked guru” in progress. You recognize your short-comings while appreciating the beauty of life, love, and family.
You have experience in life that even a mature, critical thinking person can appreciate. Your life experiences make you uniquely qualified to provide suggestions to the seeker.

Yes to all. Money is important to help keep your life on an even keel. It helps when times get tough and it helps also when times are good. Having learnt to save for unexpected times in the future is paramount to becoming a happy and balanced adult. It is also a great help for the family to practise to show future generations of family that it is always necessary to be prepared for life.

Probably the greatest deficiency in the human psyche is our failure to appreciate. It's so instructive to note that generally-speaking we live in a time of exceptional abundance, yet those countries so fortunate can have large portions of the population that express significant dissatisfaction with their government and institutions. If I don't regularly focus on appreciatìon and gratitude, I inevitably become more miserable.

    • @TheColossalBlanket
      @TheColossalBlanket 2 місяці тому +1

I think it's because all this abundance is material abundance that gets produced by people who don't have control over the products of their labour. The life depicted on this channel is one of abundance but the key difference is the control over the produce of their labour, the freedom to do with it what you will, to use the products and sell them. This gives a person meaning, the complete lack of meaning and meaningful work where people own the products of their labour, can take pride and satisfaction in their work is what's missing in the majority of people's lives today, that's why there's so much addiction, anger and mental health problems.

Two things i wondered about though:
    1) How far away are you from good medical facilities should an emergency occur?
    2) I'd be curious on your thoughts around security and protecting your homestead. Perhaps I've been watching too many prepper/fall of the world type videos too, but I wonder if it's an area you should look at, even if things are safe and stable just now.

A lot of wisdom in your "Rant" and I enjoy your perspective on things around freedom...Many places around the world we are brought up to become good tax paying citizens. For most people working normal jobs freedom is the time you don't have to work...weekends ,holidays etc..People 50 years old and up start looking forward to retirement cause when they finally hit that age, they are free...Free to do nothing..That's also what many people do when weekend, or the holiday, finally arrives..Travel to a sunny country to lay on a beach and do nothing...You see these 65 year old + people wondering around the mall just looking, or sitting on a bench talking to other people doing the same...Real freedom is like you say discipline and work, sometimes hard work...When I left my job to pursue freedom people said stuff like "you have some money so that means your life will be like a permanent vacation?" I had to explain that my money is limited and I have to work hard to make money to survive as a free person....In my view I d say people who go throu life just waiting for the next weekend or the next anual 3 week holiday have no understanding of what freedom is..and they don't seek it cause it very comfortable to be a "wage slave"..its the easy option in life and that's fine...Time is a limited commodity and self ownership over it is truly a blessing..I still have many challenges in front of me if I want to stay free...the point is not to come out on the other side as somebody who won and made it throu the challenging stuff so I can chill out forever...The point is to enjoy the journey of hardship it is to stay free..Peace 🙏

Thailand just participated in the trialing of CBDC's, with 4 western countries, so they are a part of the World Economic Forum's future plans. This was not reported in the MSM of course. The only reason the poorer countries have not been targeted for the injections and lockdowns is that they already have a low standard of living and rock bottom wages, and the WEF and UN are concentrating on destroying the economies of the west before turning their attention to poorer Asian countries like Thailand.
When they are finished destroying the west, they will turn their attention to countries like Thailand. Your house will be required to be ''carbon neutral", and be converted at a huge cost and paid for by you of course. You will be required to take a series of injections for whatever virus they have created or be jailed or deported. Only then will the floodgates be opened to mass immigration, after the Thai govt has agreed to pay welfare to immigrants. This is the plan. The poor countries will not be allowed to escape as they serve as a bolthole for westerners who are trying to flee the horror of what their own countries have become.
I am not asking you to believe me, you probably do not as it must seem too extreme for most to take in. All I ask is that you remember this post when what I have said comes to be.

It is interesting to listen to your ramblings as it reminds me of how different we all are. Freedom was a key focus of mine in my youth but I took a very different path. In the end I managed to free myself from most modern norms of career, family and debt. I stopped working 30 years ago and have been luxuriating in my freedom ever since. I did add a partner to the equation 27 years ago but that only expanded my freedom by adding love, companionship and a broader range of shared interests.
Some people need outside pressure in the form of things like goals or deadlines but I find there is a natural flow to life which comes from within. I don’t believe stress and conflict is necessary in life or relationships. The mind and the body remember what you repeat so if you focus on and repeat the positive, over time there is less and less space for the negative to creep in. Just like riding a motorcycle, look where you want to go rather than looking at what you want to avoid. I believe the concept is called target fixation.
Anyway, you continue to make your own choices and adapt in a way that feels right to you. I am sure many will identify or at least have their though process nudged in a positive direction as they look for their own path.

I have never experienced anything I would call trauma or violence and I was never drawn to any form of substance use, let alone any abuse. I don't think I knew it at the time but life has been very easy for me and I believe a lot of that stems from the family I grew up in and moving to Thailand at 23. Freedom does not mean a life of all positives and no negatives. Freedom means that you are able to choose the mixture of positives & negatives which will make up your life.
Many people do not have this choice, due to external forces, beyond their control; but many more people, sadly, do not have this choice, due to internal constraints, of their own making.
You and Damo are truly free, because you were able to choose to leave the high-paying corporate rat race and settle instead for a more modest life in the bamboo hut, and because you were able to choose to raise a family.
Enjoy your freedom and thanks, as always, for your thought-inspiring insights. :)

Negative freedom is freedom from - freedom from oppression, whether it's a colonial power or addiction to alcohol oppressing you. You need to be freed from negative freedom. Positive freedom is freedom for, freedom to be. And that's what's routinely ignored today.

You describe some of your learnings with the same words I use. Everything is a process. In fact there are no 'things' per se, just processes. And yes, freedom can be tricky. I am struggling a bit with that. I sort of forgot to a large degree why I stay here. I was a monk for 3 years in Myanmar and came here after instead of going home largely because of the immediate availability of the dhamma. I just went to a nearby forest meditation temple and reminded myself of how important that journey is for me and reminded myself that I have a lot to explore in Thailand, inside and out, as far as the dhamma available. Other things as well but that is a main one. I also want to take an adobe brick / house making course in Chiang Mai. They also teach organic farming. Anyway, when you have a lot of time on your hands, it's not as easy and relaxing as people that don't have it would think. After any novelty wears off, it can feel kind of pointless. You have a family to focus on, that's great. I'm single and don't have those same responsibilities. That's fine with me actually but still, it feels good to have something useful, productive, creative, and/or helpful to do.

The mosquitoes in Thailand are a whole different beast. They're not the slow moving, cumbersome, fearful things of other places. They're persistent, fast moving, very small and the environment they're spawned in carries a lot of yuck. Even if you don't get sick, your body reacts to the "dirt" of them much worse.

Freedom is a mindset, difficult to achieve, and is flirtatious. But there can be moments and even even long periods. But without perspective, effort and discipline it is unlikely to be to be experienced or appreciated.

Easy times create weak men sums up the UK and western civilization generally. Easy times is what the west and the UK in real terms is what we’ve had for at least twenty five years. Hence a docile population allowing their politicians to give their country to be swallowed up from external forces. Keep the vlogs coming.

Too much freedom can lead to many bad things happening.
My view on freedom is to be able to do things that interest you.
Money is just a means to being able to do those things that interest you.
Personally, I have many interests but I am not able to follow them all yet.
This is a matter of creating a balance between time and money, enabling the freedom to do these things.

@thenakedguru I'm in Chanthaburi Thailand ( Durian Central). Retired built a mini mansion. But out in the jungle. All the peace and Quiet you could ask for. . After 2 years. Climbing the walls. Should have bought a condo right on the beach. Still considering at this point.
Not a newbie to the country. But poor judgment on what life would keep me happy through retirement years. Wish you and your family the best. Your very wise young man! Thanks for sharing your thoughts..
