What an excellent introduction to lutterloh. My grandmother had been using the lutterloh system since she was stationed in Germany after WWII. I grew up watching her make beautiful things with it. Unfortunately, when she passed away I wasn't able to get her collection (every pattern from the late 40s to the mid 00s).
I just want to let you know that I appreciate your tutorials so much. I've learned a lot from your channel. Thank you for making this content and helping others grow their skills!

Beautiful blouse. I was introduced to if not this system, one similar to this system over 15-20 years ago. The instructor made the vest. This was in my early stages of learning to sew. Seeing it now -- years later -- I understand it better.

Thank you so much for your explanation on how to use this system.
I had it for so many years and could not use it because did not know how
the order of the sewing. Ended up giving it away. I bought it in the 80's, but was not able to use it. Then there was no UA-cam nor I had a CD. Thanks again

I would have never thought of making copies of the pattern- what a great idea!
I originally bought this system when my first child was a toddler (1993) and had made a few things. More children came along and I thought I'd NEVER have time to make my own patterns and gave this kit to goodwill! Well, I've been struggling with resizing regular patterns over the years and now have the time to make my own patterns again; I bought the new kit, am excited to have found your channel, and am almost finished up with my first shirt. I feel I know how to use it and my 3 garments sewn so far have been successful. However, I realised as I watched your reading of the pattern that I had missed some useful information in my own work. @@SewToFit I'm intrigued by the custom pattern claim. To test it out I have purchased fabric and measured myself, my two adult daughters and my preteen grand daughter. I plan to make matching tunic tops for all of us. It will be interesting to see if we all end up with well fitting shirts. Even if I never end up using it to make garments I feel that I'm learning a bit about pattern drafting from this system. My sewing journey is more about learning a new skill than acquiring more clothes. I love to learn. I love to make. I'm kind of a notion junky. I love the rulers, I love the measuring tape and the pins and and the binder with all of the patterns. ha!

    • @SewToFit
      @SewToFit  3 роки тому

@@nancypollard4531 I am too, a learner. I really think it is something for those who want to understand Pattern making. Mostly, because, you see the design and the pattern shape. Pattern making is hard when you aren’t sure how the pattern will shape out in the end.
Good luck on the tunics. I think you will be successful on all three.

@@SewToFit The Haslam System of Dressmaking is a system originating from the UK in the 1920s. It uses a chart ruler marked with your own measurements to produce a sloper or foundation. Then you use that to adapt to your taste or use the system with fashion booklets giving specific instructions to alter the foundation to a particular design. These booklets were produced between 1920s and 1960s, so the system is used by vintage fashion enthusiasts mainly.

Okay. Gotcha. Definitely, this is well worth it. I think you will find it much easier and you will get to you goal faster. If it doesn’t measure out, then you could just lay the same paper Dow and use different measurements. So see your point.

I suspect that the "b" point on the edge of the neckline is NOT the back. B is the back piece but this isn't a back piece. It looks like the 'a' point is at upper back.

The small A, B, C etc. at the pattern edge are for order of sewing. You are correct. The larger A and B in the body of the pattern are front and back. The small V at the edge of sleeves/arm scythe denote front.

Thanks for this in-depth review of Lutterloh/Golden Rule system. I really appreciate the effort you put into really showing how detailed the system gets. I was curious if the ease amounts are suggested in the Lutterloh system? Or is that something that just comes from experience. If from experience, any book/video ideas that you can share on how to best calculate ease for this system. Thanks so much!

The XL/XXL version of the system starts at 43.5" / 110 cm and ends at 67! / 170 cm. It overlaps the end of the regular system. Check out the canadian website - they have a video explaining the differences.

GOLDEN RULES or some call it DEVINE GEOMETHRY .
if you watch any Turkish sawist making pasterns they do make them by size of clients hands ( from palms to wrist ) and use this golden rules to make fast pasterns in minutes . They do not even make paper pastern just drew strait on material - it always facinate me how they know what measurement use just by looking at you .
in EUROPE they do use this system "GOLDEN RULE " and you can have same system with tape and pins .

Everything you got with the system is what comes with it none of it was gifted. So please do not say you were gifted any of it because it sounds like you got these bits extra when you don't as this is the standard system that is received when purchasing the system. I know I've got it years ago.

Thanks Doris. When I bought my original system, there was no paper or extra rulers. And the extra supplements were all extra as well. My base system, which I purchased only had a box with the tape measure, a cardboard dressmaker curve and a pamphlet. Now the website has all the bundles with these items included. You were on the forward moving side of the marketing. 😁.
