I’ve been riding for 55 years now, raced motocross, short track and TT in the 1970s, and in October of 2022, I bought a new Pan America Special. It had some dealer installed upgrades and was on the showroom floor for than less than 24 hours when I rode it home. The bike does have a few quirks, but it is an AWESOME motorcycle. Being well into my 60s now, I am selective about the off road business, with it being as heavy as it is, but i have had it in some pretty gnarly stuff. It’s a great bike and I love it.
Thanks for watching man!! I truly have fallen back in love with mine. Just getting on some of the easier off-road trails is a completely freeing experience and adds a whole new dimension to riding. Stay safe out there!!
I traded a 2022 CVO Road Glide Limited got a 2023 PAS. Best bike purchase I have ever made. Fast powerful, nimble , great fuel economy and versatility. I even riding two up most of the time and it still has all the great handling characteristics that the RG Ltd did not. Awesome bike I have second bike an African Twin and decided it’s going to be sold. Don’t need it. This PAS is that good.
Couldn't agree with you more!! Welcome to the PAS crew! It's the best of all worlds! Thats the way I feel about my Desert X, I just don't need it anymore!
I have a 2021 PA. I bought mine in October of 21, and it has been amazing. Having a good service department is huge. I have had a handful of issues, but nothing major. Between HD of Edmonton and Gasoline Alley in Red Deer ( Alberta, Canada), I have had amazing service. I agree, the more I ride, the more I love the bike. I can say that after owning many Japanese bikes, this one is my first HD and is favourite bike on the market. I was close to buying a BMW or AT, both of which I have rode, and the PA was the winner. I have zero regrets pulling the trigger on the PA. Cheers!
Had 5 GS ADV, then wanted something different, so I switched to HD, started with a Road King, then SGS plus a Sportster Roadster and a Breakout, had a great time with all... in 21 the PA was launched so I decided to trade the SGS in and buy the PA, first 1000 km all was fine, then it started to fail, 4 breakdowns and 7 months ws stay due to missing parts, I got fat up and HD exchanged the bike to a real 23... 800 km all fine, then the PA started again creating shit, throwing DTC like hell, limp mode, not starting, etc... I was so upset, that I went strsight to a BMW dealer, traded it in and bought a new 1250 GS ADV... now 4500 km still all fine, the last 2 weeks I Sold the other HD'S... I am done with HD and the PA
I can really relate to your story, it sounds a lot like mine! Luckily, I found a dealer in Boswell Harley Davidson in Nashville that knows what they are doing and got mine sorted out! I'm glad now that I didnt get rid of it, but I was close on many occasions for sure
I use that analogy frequently to explain it. Living near the mountains in the country (NW SC),i can’t imagine a better tool to enjoy all there is to offer.
My 21 had issues but nothing to get mad about. I love the bike. Here in Austria Europe every second bike on the road is a GS. This was the main reason not to look after a Beamer. If I read about the issues on the new 1300GS 🙈😱 i am glad to own a PA. I am 58 yrs old, rode tons of different bikes. The PA is among the best for me.
You nailed! I had the 21 Multistrada 1260 GT and felt the same way about my Multi. I just bought the 24 Pan Am. I'm picking it up the August 3rd....stoked😁
Steve, I just wanted to comment to say thank you for what you do. I can’t believe I just realized this but I’ve been watching you for the past 6 years. I’m an audio engineer that found your channel when I was just getting started in higher education. I am now a professional engineer that works full time out of a recording studio with plans to move my operations to Nashville. You were making songwriting videos when I was just trying to learn to rhyme in a coherent way. I now produce records and am living my musical journey. Here’s where it gets weirder, I just made a big switch last year to get my motorcycle endorsement. I am getting ready to buy my second motorcycle and I stumbled upon your channel from the youtube recommendations. I also just bought my Argosy Halo desk and whose face is below the banner on Sweetwater? That’s right it’s you man! I just want to say thank you for the content you create and the advice you give. It means a lot as both an audio professional and a beginning motorcyclist! Look forward to seeing more from you brother! Ride safe!
Thanks so much brother!!! SO glad to hear you are having success in your journey and very happy to play a very small part in it! I retired from music in 2020 and am really enjoying riding bikes and making content! Congrats on the bikes, its an amazing community and way of life! What bikes do you own?? You'll love the Halo by the way :)
I’m currently riding a Honda shadow 750 Ace. I wanted to make sure that I got a handle on how to ride when I got my endorsement June of last year. Since then I put 5000 miles down this summer and had the time of my life. I truly can’t imagine my life without riding at this point it really is a form of therapy. I am currently interested in upgrading to my second bike. I love Harleys and I know the community is awesome. It’s the dealerships where I start to have issues. I am 6’7 and I knew that the second I walked into a dealer they would put me on something I wasn’t ready for. That hunch came true when I walked into my first Harley Dealer. The salesman took one look at me and recommended the ultra limited road glide for my second bike. I was stunned. I told him I didn’t have much experience with bikes that big and he said the weight doesn’t have an impact at highway speeds. What about slow speed maneuvers? What about intersections, U turns, or roundabouts does it have an affect then? Some seriously bad advice from a salesman who wanted to make the most commission possible. I was interested in a lowrider st or a heritage soft tail which are both big bikes from 750 to a few thousand cc but the salesman actually told me I looked silly on a the lowrider st and that a bike that small wouldn’t work and pointed me to a road glide st. Why do dealerships do this? I knew what I wanted and I knew what my limits were and the salesman completely ignored all of them. I actually had my shadow parked in front of the dealership. If we had rolled a low rider st outside it would have been bigger than the shadow I rode to get there! I love motorcycles and I love Harley’s, and someday I will be experienced enough for a big road glide but I am 22. And putting a rider with a combined 4 months of experience on an almost 1000 pound motorcycle is irresponsible. When I get to Tennessee I’ll be on the hunt for a dealership that operates with integrity but right now in Minnesota they have lost my business.
I just bought one from Boswells! It was a great experience all around. Very helpful and informative about all the “issues” they have had even though I had already researched it to death. If you ever want to ride down towards Dickson or Hickman county let me know. There are a lot of good places to ride. Lines of GSs come right past my house every summer.
I don't know and I have Never watched any of your videos. I caught this one because I wanted to hear your thoughts. I had the distinct opportunity to be one of the first 3 -5 people in public to own a HD PAS. There was a guy on the East Coast posting, me in the middle and a guy on the West Coast posting about them when they first released. I did a 3300 mile road trip on mine and had every problem, everyone now knows about. The other two gents had major issues with one having a swing arm replaced and the other needing a full engine rebuild. So for me, although, I did sell my PAS when I got home from the trip because I wasn't mentally prepared to jump through the hoops for it, my local dealer was enthusiastic about the PAS and the HD Mothership was jumping through hoops to solve my issues with my home dealer. That makes a huge difference. Unfortunately, this enthusiasm seems to have stopped at my local dealer and HD is now treating this bike like all other models. That being the case.... I am still watching the bike as it did make an impression on me. I am glad your story has a happy ending.
I can totally relate to your story man! I too was one of the first to get the bike and just like you, have experienced almost every problem that they shipped with from the factory. My local dealers were no help whatsoever, Thanks to my new local dealer in Nashville, I've finally got it straightened out, for now, and am finally enjoying the bike! I'm hoping that by the new 24 models, they have figured out the design and manufacturing flaws and ship a great bike!
I had a Ducati 950 multi also, seat was uncomfortable as hell, other than that, great bike, but i really like the new low riders so i thought i wanted a cruiser again, the 1st trip i took on that i was miserable,, on that same trip, we stopped for a concert at Smoky Mtn HD, I checked out the PA and 2 weeks later me a buddy did a turn and burn back down there, so i now have a 22 GI model in my garage....love that damn thing, yes gremlins but my local dealer is really good with the bike, i can roll miles on that thing, next yr i will be taking a 2 day offroad course, we'll see how that goes...if i find out i like off roading, i might look for a DR650 or something...good video, and your right, the dealer you have makes a big difference. ......sláinte

I bought a ‘22 Pan America. I really liked it! The only thing is I never rode it off road. I mainly used it like a sport touring bike. It was fun! I had a blast and probably should have kept it because it was so much fun. However, since I wasn’t going off road, I decided I was going to stick with my other bike. I’m more of a grand touring rider.
