- Today I installed an Ohme EV charger, as usual I faced challenges with the cable route, other than that, this may well be the easiest EV charger to install....OR IS IT??
Hope you enjoy!!

Like your enthusiasm, I’m having an Ohme epod installation this Thursday in Kent. Be great if it was you .
Thank you sir 👍👍
Thanks for the video. I am looking at my first EV. I am on a looped supply and the consumer unit and meter are in the middle of the house. So this and your looped video have helped. I have a consultation next week with the installer (i live near manchester - so a bit far for you to travel) fingers crossed they are as informed as yourself.
Happy Xmas and new year, already looking forward to next years uploads.
Happy Xmas and best wishes to you also for the new year!! Thanks for watching my videos consistently, appreciate your support. 👍👍👍
Thanks for filling my stocking....You have a Merry Christmas too :)
Thank you buddy 👍👍
I like your detailed description of everything you do...5 stars
Thank you 👍
Another good one, have a great Christmas
Thank you, you too!! 👍👍
Merry Christmas to you mate
Thank you mate, and to you 👍👍
The other good thing with them drill dust extractors is they help give you a nice 90° drilled hole & it is nicer to not have the little piles of dust everywhere 😉
New subscriber mate, loving the videos. I have just had ohme pro, but don't think the bracket is very pro with 8m of cable. Saying that the app and setup is good.
Hello mate, thank you for subscribing!! Much appreciated!! Yes the bracket is a bit flimsy for 8m of cable 👍👍
Mate...that was a great vid.......nice editing.....getting better every time
What was the total time taken to install the charger?
Have a great xmas
Hi mate thank you so much, it took about 4/5 hours, it would be way quicker if I didn’t video it, but I like making videos 🤣 Have a great Xmas also!!
Great video. Did you really forget you'd installed the consumer unit previously or was that just for the camera? Anyway, have an awesome Christmas. Take care.
Thank you, lol that was my lame attempt of being funny, have a great Xmas also!! Take care buddy 👍👍
Great video. Enjoy a well deserved break 🍻🍻
Thank you, hope you have a good Christmas and best wishes for the new year 🍺🍺
I use the same external connection box as you so I'm curious: do you use the included terminal block or something else more robust. As always, it's interesting to hear what others are using. Many thanks.
Always great videos 😊
Merry Christmas 🎅
Did you have to do the C&G 2921-31 to install electric vehicle charger points?
Hi Mike, you should but no one is policing what courses you do, I would advise it though!! Merry Xmas to you too and thank you for watching mate 👍👍🍺
Merry Xmas bro
Thanks bro you too 👍
Also, putting a screw and penny washer in the top of the plug holder stops the top piece sagging
Nice work. Where did you get your roll out mats?? Great idea
Thank you!! I got the mats from a website called ‘stickersnthat’
Hi pal how do you get on with testing the built in RCD as I’m like you and fitted one upstream to protect cable but during testing it trips the upstream RCD instead of the built in one … I had to temporarily fit and MCB first to get round this cheers
Great Job mate! That holder to release the charger plug is the best thing, I used it on my Indra Lux it finishes it off well and makes for a neater install compared to the holder and rubber boot that still allows water ingress think Indra dropped the ball on that one.
Ohme is by far the best integration with Octopus 🐙 a mate of mine has it and it can do the dual tariff ie it knows when your charging at the lower price of the tariff in the day time outside of the set hours and give you the price of the charge accordingly, although Octopus 🐙 schedule the charge on Indra.
Indra still associate any charge outside of the set times as peak rate and displays it on the app as peak rate even though Octopus 🐙 Automated the charge schedule. Indra seem at a loss as how to implement this like Ohme have got told they will look to update in the next firmware update.
Ohme is by far the star of integration but ugly in the looks department IMHO especially if it has to be installed at the front of the house.
Thank you mate, and thanks for your comments, good info there for sure!! Hope you have a lovely Xmas!!
@@sotaelectrical you to bud, at least you get a couple days break from work lol, have a good Crimbo mate
How much do you charge for the ohme on a standard install?
whats the diameter of the ev cable, would the jokari stripper just do the same job? 8-28mm
You seem to install a wide range of different brand chargers. Have you had some supplier specific training from all of them ?
Hi mate, yes I do offer a wide range and I do all the supplier training for all the brands
I couldnt tell from the video but was the ethernet cable routed with the armoured cable? It looks like they are both coming out from one cable.
It’s called an EV Ultra cable and the CAT5 is integrated with it 👍👍
Are your rods 5metres long each?
Just wondering, do you do any EV installation for Mobility. We will be getting a free standard installation by Mobility when we order our first EV.
Just hope the election are as good as you.
I don’t but I can I guess?
Bricktop! 🤣
🤣
Have an Ohme charger installed. Not a massive fan of it always looses its internet connection from the mobile sim that it uses and sometimes requires a power down to fix this and whilst it has no internet the option of authorizing charges does not work meaning any one can use the charger.
The CT clamp on my one also doesnt work and so i have had to turn load balancing off as it was stuck at low charge speeds and the CT clamp makes a loud noise tried to call Ohme several times but can never get through to them left several voicemails to call back and have heard nothing.
Hi Jamie,
Thanks for your comments, one thing I also do is check the 4G connection at the property before installing an Ohme, it’s a shame your having this issue. I would maybe suggest contacting your installer (if it’s Ohme then I understand you have tried to contact them) and get the CT connections checked out, should be an easy fix.
Thanks for watching and best wishes for Xmas! 👍
thanks and yes the CT clamp is an easy fix think i know what the issue is the installer used 1 pair of CAT5 per CT wire meaning each wire to the CT has 2 cables which wont be helping things will probably end up redoing these connections after xmas when i have time and seeing if that gets the CT to start working@@sotaelectrical
Hi, looking at getting a EV but I know my fuse board hasn’t any spare space available so every trip switch is connected to something around the house (lights, sockets, Outdoor sockets etc) does that mean I need a new bigger fuse box fitted or can something be done to free a space up for the EV charger to be wired into? As I want to faction all of these things in to the cost of moving over to a EV. Thanks
I would either suggest replacing the existing one or leave it alone and put in a new separate consumer unit for the charger 👍
@@sotaelectrical thank you for the reply. Price wise would doing it that way be cheaper as well as less hassle? Any idea a rough figure to look at doing this I appreciate it’s depending on area etc I’m in the Thames Valley area UK.
@@andrewwest8418 cheaper and less hassle to put in a separate consumer unit for sure!! Price wise I won’t discuss on here, fuel for an argument
It riles me when people complain about people doing things better than they absolutely have to. Clearly their MO is to do the minimum they can get away with. I do Ohme's all the time and there's no way I would leave the wiska box connections/wagos unprotected, especially if they are internal.
Absolutely agree with you mate, thanks for watching and have a great Xmas!! 👍👍
No fire clips under the floor?
Why would fire clips be required under a floor?
Mate, just go under the floor yourself. There is plenty of space down there. It would take 5 mins to complete the cable run.
Any preference on what charger you install?
I like the Simpson and partners, zappi, Ohme the most at the moment 👍
@@sotaelectrical Thanks for reply Ive only installed one easee, and I've got another 2 to fit debating what to use client doesn't mind what he has, I found the easee nice to install seemed basic tho but have nothing to compare against.
@@Davidhughes9467 if your customer wants something nice looking, go for the Simpson & Partners, if they have solar, install. Zappi, if they don’t and they are on octopus intelligent - install a Ohme that’s my kind of rule of thumb
@@sotaelectricalok great thanks for this info much appreciated mate 👍
Why install the box so low? The customer is going to have to be on hands and knees to read it 😂
Regs mate
How much does this cost in total?
I won’t reveal work prices on here, I always get hate from someone and it’s so unnecessary
Sound is poor!
Hi Mike, sorry can you elaborate so I can try and improve, I’m pretty thorough so interested to know what you mean?
Volume seems really low I have to turn my volume up to max on your videos.
@@mikejackson1383 ok note taken, sorry about this
Sounds good to me. Haven’t had to adjust the volume from a session watching lots of other stuff.
Yeah, you seen to have the mic in a good position but yes low and lacking in the high frequencies.
You are so 100% on those bl00dy screws, guaranteed to snap if you try and back them off
They are the worst screws ever!! Merry Xmas mate 👍👍
