  • Why I am hesitant to buy a K2 mountain bike. Imagine going from total control to 100% out of control, being thrown over your handle bars, in an instant.

    I have the same bike. The head stalk on the frame had vertical cracks in the top and bottom of the bracket. Bad juju. I put radiator clamps on both ends and kept riding it for a while. I later showed the shop the frame, and K2 sent a new frame. They said the last thing they want is a frame failure and the rider going endo. My opinion, stay away from this manufacturer. Although they sent a new frame, I have never had those kinds of cracks in that critical area of the frame. The bike was fairly new and I was not riding it hard.

    I have a K2 Attack 1.0 which I'm fixing up. I just pulled the bars off today. I was going to scrub the light patina of rust off and repaint, but now I'll just go get a new handlebar from a reputable brand. Thanks for the heads up!

    hmmmm...I think the handle bar that broke is not manufactured by K2. K2 just makes the frames and picks the parts and components (as 99% of the bike manufactures). I remember years ago something very similar but in an actual downhill race in Spain (1993) and the rider cold blooded grabbed the stem and managed to continue for a few more seconds and landed safely. Of course he was a professional rider and in his 20's. I think you still can contact K2? I hope you are fully recovered. Funny though...I picked up this K2 Attack 3.0 2007 and the owner sold it to me for a few bucks and he said that he couldn't use it anymore because he broke his hip but the bike was ok. All the bikes brake at some point. I usually pick broken double suspensions for cheap on Craigslist just to pull the parts and you have no idea the brands that fail (Specialized, Gary Fisher, etc) I think I just bad luck.

    Late post. But when I got mine, the first thing I did was upgrade the stem and handle bars.

    Hi Brandon. Yes choked up might be the wrong word. Anxious might be better to describe reliving the experience.

    The bar shown is absolutely not suited for off road aggressive riding. This bike should have been spec'd with a flat bar. If this happened on a decent, it is possible that too much weight was applied to the bar, or hard breaking was the culprit.

    Thanks, I am fine, this happened a few years ago. I do hold K2 responsible since they packaged and sold this bike as a complete unit. Handle bars should not shear.

    You've got a great case for replacement bike if lucky but at least handlebars. Definitely should not have happened

    Don't blame k2, blame the handlebar company. If you went over the bars then that isnt their fault. Hope you het better.

    Sorry to hear that you got injured.
    did you notice any bending of the handlebar before it failed ?

    • @donvaccaro5841
      @donvaccaro5841  8 років тому

      Hi Eric, there was nothing to indicate the bar might fail. No bending, no discoloration, no twisting ...

      Choked up maybe not what he felt but are you stupid or what? Not injured? His rib was cracked and soft tissue damaged. That's not injury?
