My daughter just went off to navy bootcamp on December 10th. She will also be in there for Christmas. She did 4 years of jrotc in high school and went into boot camp as an E3 rank instead of an E1. I believe one of the reasons for the short is to benefit the instructor. From what I hear regardless of how tough the present themselves, the job takes a toll on them and their family lives. The turnover rate for navy instructors are high and training new instructors are a norm now. It also lessens the time and stress for recruits as Recruiting was at a low before the last two years. Certain rules have also changed for recruits as the get to call family using their cell phones for 30min every Sunday. This relieves the stress of family members and relieves the stress of the recruits in bootcamp who are not at their best when missing family. Trump will be in office soon which will lessen the chance of conflict as trump is against war, and Certain leaders of conflicted countries seek peace with trump in. Imo it's the best time to join the navy with the new administration, especially for the next 4 years on a 4 year navy contact.
