Very informative vidio, I just purchased 2 1974 IH CUB 1000 and a 74 IH CUB 1250 hydrostatic cheep. Kind of a barn find while I was looking/ buying tools using Facebook marketplace... but anyway, both 3 speed manual 1000 machines need total rebuilds disk, teaser, the piece that pushes teaser, throughout baring, and one of them also need both springs.. do u have any info or ideas for a heavier spring.. without breaking the bank.. just the throughout baring is 86$ at my local dealer..thanks!
Thanks for the video. I have a 582 exactly like the one you have here. My clutch pads had some work done by a guy some years ago. Something broke in there and I cannot remember what part it was. It may have been on the flywheel mechanism. He told me he could not find another part for it. Would you happen to know what part that be that could break? Maybe I will take some photos and post them here. I do know he used that welding glue to fix it and so far it has worked. I just would eventually like to fix it. But I have had that tractor since new and it still runs and looks really great. It does seem to rattle quite a bit though. Maybe that is where it is coming from. Any chance you can do a video on adjusting the clutch brake on it as well?
Good vid. Working on my 582 clutch. Do you think 1045 steel would be good enough for the drive shaft on these tractors? Not really wanting to spend for the 4140 shaft material.
@@metalworksmachineshop I plan to pull a 10" single bottom plow and a trailer with about a half cord of fresh cut oak. ....but not at the same time....lol 4140 or 1045?
@@metalworksmachineshop Thanks! I was kinda concerned with drilling the 4140 and dulling my cobalt drills. New coiled pins are on the way. Putting a $20 Kohler KT17 II that I went trough in this tractor. Thanks again!
I know your pain. I have a cub cadet 86. Had to spend some time on my clutch as well...when I 1st got it, it was badly chewed up from abuse from the PO... Then a second round a couple years later after I scrounged up some better replacement parts... These are fantastic old machines, but I wound up prfering the 200 series John Deere's for my needs. Still have the 86 though
Theres got to be a better clutch design thats simpler and more balance. (And avaliable!) Something from a auto diff or motorcycle? guess im stuck going down this road
I love how you used the lathe for spring compression. such a simple, yet smart solution
thank you for help
Thanks for the comment 👍

Interesting how that driveline is assembled. It’s built correctly but not cheap, unfortunately folks want cheap, not good stuff anymore

@@brunomahle1618 1045 will work. Just don't pull a plow or a tractor pull sled.. thanks for the comment 👍

@brunomahle1618 honestly, it'll probably be fine.. the shearing pin should go before the shaft will.
@@metalworksmachineshop Thanks!

Still have the 86 though
At one time I almost had every model of the narrow frame cubs. I still have a 125 being restored.
Hey Mate , you got your moneys worth out of the old plate alright !!!
3rd clutch platet in 40 years ain't to bad, I guess. I just bitch about spending money 💰🤑🤪
What a great shop, thanks for the sub, Del.
Hi Doug,
That's a cool Cub Cadet... I would love one but being a city slicker I don't really need one...
Cheers.
Paul,,
Using the lathe as an Arbor Press,,,too cool,,,Thx for sharing the IH cluch install too (@@)!
i have the same tractor. i am looking for a creeper gear just like that.
That is the CCC (MTD) version of the cub creeper. I found it new old stock for 300.00. Back in the mid 2000s.
Not much left of that clutch. Surprised you were able to drive it in your shop for the repair. She will be ready to push some snow now.
Yeah if that disc had nine lives you spent them all. LOL
Nice job Doug.
Very nice Doug, Keep the videos coming. Gary

Well You at least saved yourself the cost of another lawn tractor regardless of how long it last
