  • In this video, I demonstrated how I made an aluminum clutch disc for my son stock cub 100. The aluminum disc provide a much better grip compared to the original fiber disc. Useful for tractor pulling or when using aggressive tires. The disc was cut out of a 1/4" aluminum plate. It is also recommend to use the red spring with a teaser spring to add even more grip. If the stock spring is used without the teaser spring (older narrow frame) the engagement will be almost on or off with the aluminum disc, which is ok for pulling .
I did use a lathe and milling machine for this project, but and a angle grinder and a hand held drill can also be used.
On a side note, both pressure plate must be free of rust and pitting. If pitted, giving them a light skim on a lathe will restore the surfaces.
    Thanks for watching,
    J.F.

Would this be a huge improvement over Kevlar ?

I do run both. It is definitely a big improvement over stock. A good spring help also. We run aluminum on about 4 of ours and they hold up good. It is cheap and easy to make.
I have many more videos to upload regarding garden tractor pulling, just way too busy lately. Stay tuned for more.

Awesome so you use factory pressure plates and aluminum clutch disk what spring do you use. I'm in middle of building a Kubota diesel with ab128 cub cadet clutch setup and rear end. Any tips would be great we want to start this pulling season turning heads. Lol 😆

      Good day!
For the "stock" one I kept the factory presure plate with the stock spring. I had some shims to apply more presure to the plates/disc. On our modified, I used billet plates, upgraded clutch disc, billet aluminum clutch driver with 6 lugs, and red spring, now going to upgrade to yellow spring.
If you're going to install a diesel, you need way better clutch components than stock. 6 lugs aluminum driver or spline, 5 or 6 puck clutch disc, billet plates, yellow spring, reinforced clutch linkage. You will also need to upgrade your rear end with a different carrier, axles, berings retainers, billet forks and so on.
Check out Midwest Super Cub, Lakota, Vogel for parts.
Won't be cheap, but it'll be fun!!!
      Cheers!
