    I enjoyed this video and look forward to more on the subject. I would love to see photos or sketches during your explanations to further illustrate the different ore forming systems and the ore specimens themselves... that would be fantastic!

    Thanks Chris, good summary of deposit types for Bonanza Coarse Gold. I would also add mafic dikes / ironstone and their adjacent quartz veins.

      These are a sub-type of orogenic deposits.

      @@ChrisRalph Thanks for your feedback. Yes, I agree, I have found gold along mafic dikes in both porphyry and orogenic model terrains. I would suggest that metal detector enthusiasts out looking for bonanza gold, care more about a rock to detect than a geologic model in their head. Are deposit types what appeal to a Prospector or, more to the geologist and mining engineer? Most folks I've seen in the field want to be shown a rock carrying bonanza gold...

    Thanks for the theory, much more helpful would be to know how such types of deposit’s look like and how to indicate them or what characteristic indicators you have to look for. One at the time. I wish to have more detailed information.

    • @ChrisRalph
      @ChrisRalph  5 років тому +1

      What you ask is a fairly complex question to answer. Deposits in the ground vary depending on what type they are. The greenstone belts of Western Australia or West Africa look much different than the intrusive related deposits of Alaska, USA or the epithermal deposits of Nevada and Mexico. I'm trying to do up videos on topics where one does not need a geology degree to grasp, but there are plenty of technical papers written by geologists on the internet for those who want more detail.

    Hi Chris , When you say epithermal deposits are formed near the surface , can you define " near " ? Do we have a defined zone like 10 feet or 1000 feet etc? Quarter mile ? etc ? Thanks !

    • @ChrisRalph
      @ChrisRalph  5 років тому

      Epithermal deposits can form at depths from 10 or 20 feet down up to 2500 feet - it just depends on the geometry and geology of the deposit. Most probably form at depths of a few hundred feet.

    Hi Chris
    Do you think large gold nuggets form in the mud pots?
    Maybe why there is no quartz on the large stuff.

    • @ChrisRalph

      Formation is deeper down in the earth, not the surface mud pots.

    Hello again Mr. Ralph. Watched a horrifying video of south African miners crushing rock in a bobby mill. Was curious if it isn't common practice to rig up a large pestle attached by a hinge to a lever on a tower operated by a thong or gear reduction, although I assume the latter would have issues on the down stroke. It would need a little stabilizing like a bottomless oil drum, of course. Just wondering if this is a thing, or if not, why? If you have the time. Thank you for all the information.

    • @ChrisRalph
      @ChrisRalph  4 роки тому

      Not really sure of your question, we may have a language problem or maybe you are using too many local slang terms for various things. Enough is lost in the translation that your question is unclear.

    • @SandhillCrane42
      @SandhillCrane42 4 роки тому

      @@ChrisRalph Ha, sorry, I speak English. Was wondering about making a large mortar and pestle that is lifted by a lever on a post if you can't afford a jaw crusher. The pestle stands straight up in a tube of some kind and a lever lifts it by a hinge. It would weigh over 100 pounds in my imagination. I'll probably just experiment with it when I have the materials and tools, but wondered if others had already been there and done that. Thanks for the response.

    • @ChrisRalph
      @ChrisRalph  4 роки тому

      I've seen drawings of miners who made a mortar and pestle like that. It would work, its just that mortar and pestle is a lot slower than a jaw crusher. Slower, but its a lot cheaper too.

  • @DavidBelliveau
    @DavidBelliveau 5 років тому +1

    I was hoping you'd start this series with pockets.
    We have 660 hectares of claims that have been described as epithermal. The problem is, the big boys want nothing to do with it because it would have been hard to find the enriched areas they think are there.
    But I have a feeling there may be a pocket or two.

    • @DavidBelliveau
      @DavidBelliveau 5 років тому +1

      Dang. I thought it would be more on the pocket hunting technique.

    • @ChrisRalph
      @ChrisRalph  5 років тому +2

      That was just the beginning. More pocket related stuff is coming. However there is no magic technique that finds pockets in all cases. Metal detectors cover a lot of ground and can see below the surface what your eyes cannot see.
