Content-Aware Tracing - Auto Trace in Photoshop 2022 (one click!)

- The Content-Aware Tracing or auto-tracing is something you always had to do in Illustrator. But not anymore! From now on you can use the Content-Aware Tracing Tool (under Pen Tools) to 'auto trace' pixel graphics with one click. Just select the tool and click on edges in your graphic. Photoshop will try to detect potential paths and create them for you.
No more tedious manual path creation.
Since this is still experimental you have to go into the settings under 'Edit - Preferences - Technology Previews...'.
Here check the box for 'Enable Content-Aware Tracing Tool'.
When you restart Photoshop now the tool will be available under the Pen Tool.
This is huge! I had no idea it was there. Thank you so much. To combine with Make Selection means you don't even need to leave PS.
Hate if u want Adobe is a God tool. Please don’t jump in the comments and disagree. Been using Adobe since 97.
To each their own. Some people jumped to other tools (paid and free) and are happy with it. Whatever works best for you.
Great tip. Thanks! I had no idea that was there!
what's incredible is not to have that in Photoshop. It's to have that... hidden. I mean how the f.... can we find a tool if it needs first to be activated (+ a restart) in order to be used. Damn weird. It feels like using Blender and its tons of inactivated add-ons. Thanks for the tip. Much useful !
I didn't see Preferences under "Edit > Preferences" as you said (I just downloaded Photoshop today so brand new version), but I found it under "Photoshop > Preferences > Technology previews" fyi incase anybody else is stuck too!
In edit there is a last option of preferences
If you are on a Mac look under Photoshop > Preferences
Thanks, this is a very useful tool! Didn´t know it was available.
damn... A very useful video, very little water in words, and the actions are very clear, thank you for showing this function)))
thanks, Clyde!
Life changing, thank you so much!
Well done sir. Thank you.
Wait, why can't I find Preferences in Edit Menu TT_TT
Wow amazing!!! Thx!!
Thank you!!
Please make a video explaining your steps from 3:00-3:08. You get an error message on the screen, and don't explain how you get around it. It's the second most watched part of this video because it's what people want to know. Feel free to link the video in reply to this comment to help more of your viewers out.
Hi Christian, that's easy..the error message pops up because it has no target to fill! ...I had no empty layer....I created a new one and selected. Then it has something to fill and it doesn't trigger an error message. Hope that helps.
How are you able to resize the path that you made? I cannot seem to do that on my end... :/
Exactly he did not explain that step he had some shortcut button and now leaves us all in the lurch trying to figure out something simple :)
I think you have to select Freeform transform edit and then the box appears so you can scale it :))))
Well the tutorial is titled "Content-Aware Tracing ..." ...and not ..."Photoshop Basics...." I'm focusing on one specific task because viewers really reaaally hate lengthy tutorials and want a specific answer right away. I can think of 15 scenarios what to do with that path once traced but that would be a 2 hour long video which no one would watch. To answer your question....once the path is selected press Ctrl/CMD + T to bring up the transform box and resize the path.
Thanks for the reply!
i cant follow instruction on how to fill color ... thank you
Could not complete your request because it only works with OpenGL enabled document windows. What is that for???
wait let me call my Photoshop 24/7 support friends on speed dial....
@@videomarknet I fixed this; preferences > plugins > enable generator > thick :)
I followed your steps, ticked the box under the technical previews, restarted PS, but the content aware pen tool is still not there, im using PS2023
I can see it in PS23 ...idk what could have gone wrong on your end....you are clicking and holding the pen tool, right?
@@videomarknet yes but i figured it out, i had to go to the edit tools and drag it from the extra tools category under the pen tool. Weird but worked. Thanks for the message/help 😬
The Photoshop I use does not have this function. How to install?
It's in the latest Photoshop version as demonstrated in the video
How are you able to enlarge the image after the paths have been made? I get as far as that but then you enlarge it but I can’t tell what your option you have selected to be able to do that. If I’m on the path tool, it won’t allow me to scale from there and when I select the move tool I can’t enlarge it from that either.
Never mind, got to select free transform lol… sorry use illustrator more than photoshop and couldn’t figure it out…. Need to start doing more work in photoshop and was sick of bouncing between both so this is a very good find!!
@@PhoenixPhire22 glad you figured it out. Yes I just used the shortcut CTRL/CMD + T
Mera technology wala option q ni arha😢😢
Your not showing me how to export it or whatever your literally editing out being able to see what you do to bring the trace up
So once I use the content aware tool tracing in photoshop on the bitmap graphics to trace it then we can make it and change it once we export it in illustrator correct or explain please
you can export it to Illustrator and/or tweak the path like any other path. In this scenario it's used to resize a rather small resolution bitmap image without any artifacts.
@VIDEO MARK so do I have to start in Photoshop, ? or can I do it all in illustrator since they have an image trace in there also I think? Also do we use logos such as bitmaps or vector graphics in illustrator and photoshop when using them together? In order to tweak the design what tool do we use for illustrator and what tools do we use for photoshop
@@ashleyjohnson9120 this is just the Photoshop version of the Illustrator image tracer
The tool doesnt appear for me, any help?
let me ask in return...how am I supposed to know what is going on on your end? Half of the very short 4 minute tutorial I'm explaining where to find the tool. Even repeating the process at the end of those endless 4 minutes ....I know it's ridiculous of me to ask someone to watch a 4 minute tutorial to learn something...while they could spend 2 hours of their precious lives watching a Joe Rogan podcast. What else can I possibly do to make it work on your end? I don't know if you are on the latest Photoshop version? I don't know your PC specs? And still I'm getting 'doesn't work, help?" ...you didn't even bother writing more than 8 words (eight!) to outline the problem and yet you are expecting a productive response from me to make that tool magically appear on your end? How is everyone expecting INSTANT gratification nowadays and putting zero effort into anything?
there is no such section in my photoshop please help
0:23 ...it's literally the first thing I demonstrate in the video and 0:05 the very first thing I'm saying is ...it must be the latest Photoshop version
it's actually not found in edit. Click on the photoshop button and you'll see preferences. I tried it exactly how he explained it and couldnt find preference there either at first.
@@videomarknet My Photoshop is 2021 but I cant find the pen tool you used in the tutorial,, please guide
@@mubashirali-os3zm Well first thing in the video I'm saying it's a new tool in Photoshop 2022. You are using Photoshop 2021. Do you see a correlation there?
@@videomarknet its different on a mac
ARIGATOOO
it doesnt work for me why?
hmm good question. ....wait I'll consult my miracle glass orb to connect to your Photoshop and find out why it's not working....
Love the snark in the comments lol. Help my computer exploded when I clicked the wrong button!!! Please come to my house and fix it!!! /s
i didnt have it
usual questions: ...did you activate it (as demonstrated)? Is your Photoshop older than 2022?
@@videomarknet no i have 2022 version and i activate it
but i didn't find : content-aware tracing tool
@@chidourachid2336 ok then I don't know what the issue is. Maybe Adobe does some shenanigangs because you're using a '22 version in '24 idk.
@@videomarknet i uninstalled it and install it and i find it thank you so much
Great video, but you went WAY too fast and didn't show how you did certain things. I couldn't follow along.
Always a challenge to find the right pace for everyone with these tutorials. I've had people in the past complaining about 30 seconds tutorials (yes seconds) for being too long. But luckily it's also an option to watch a tutorial over and over again here on UA-cam 😉
How u gonna make a tutorial and edit out all yhe stuff we need to see smh
I've had people complain about 60 second tutorials.....I've had people complain about 45 second tutorials....I've even had people complain about 30 seconds ...and here we are talking about not being 'in depth' enough.....
