  • I get a lot of questions on this topic so it was time to revisit, answering common questions that I get about RASP, preparation for it, Option 40 contracts, etc. If this hurts your feelings or discourages you, good, you weren't going to make it.

    Went from running 1 mile taking break running 1 more mile to 2 miles consistent to 2.5 miles consistent on beach over dunes. I’m not where I need to be but I’m taking it day by day and hoping it pays off

    Yep. Great content. My son is in regiment, and going through Ranger school right now and what you're saying is spot on. You said what you said and then guys are asking you for specific workout advice and asking you what surface pushups are on...😂

      Yeah, those people usually drop day 1 anyway, everyone is glad to not have to hear them anymore after that. Hope your son is having fun in Ranger School, that place sucks.

    What about being able to volunteer at OSUT or basic is that possible? I wasn’t able to get Option 40 and ship out in 12 days and being able to become a ranger is a dream of mine that I’ve prepared for mentally and physically for these past few years.

    • @nocturnekinetics
      @nocturnekinetics  2 роки тому +4

      Yes you should be able to talk to a Regiment recruiter towards the end of OSUT if your PT scores are looking good and you meet other requirements like GT score, etc. At least that was how it worked back in 2014 in Infantry OSUT, probably still the same or similar. If you think it is something you want, don't let it slip by, people may blow you off or whatever, nag the shit out of them until you get to talk to someone from Regiment about going to RASP. Also don't let people tell you that Ranger School is the same thing as RASP, they don't know what the fuck they are talking about, only RASP gets you into the 75th Ranger Regiment. If you have an Instagram account, feel free to DM me more questions if you have any. Good luck.

    AS an Airborne grunt in vietnam(173rd) and 150 lbs soaking wet and considerably less after humping the bush,I know that size does matter, basically a 200lb guy carrying a 80-90 lb pack will wear down less than me with more than half my bodyweight on my back. Got any hints for the smaller guys other than just have to tough it out.

    should i be running in boots to prep? are there running tests in rasp that must be done in boots? i noticed boots were tougher.

    • @nocturnekinetics
      @nocturnekinetics  3 роки тому +7

      The PT test will be done in running shoes, and if you can pass that 5 miler and you can ruck, you can do everything else. And they will build you up to rucking the 12 miler.

    Do you have to use your issued ruck and boots or can you use your own as long as they follow army requirements of course

  • @spicyjuice1434
    @spicyjuice1434 Рік тому +4

    I'm leaving in October with am option 40, just hit a 37 minute 5 mile, getting a ruck soon so I cam start practicing that, in your opinion is the 5 miler or the 12 mile ruck harder

    • @nocturnekinetics
      @nocturnekinetics  Рік тому +1

      It really depends on where your strengths are fitness-wise, prior to the military I ran XC and ran consistent 31 minute 5 miles, but I was very skinny and moving under weight was more difficult so initially rucking was more of a grind, although still easily doable. Sounds like from your 5 mile time you are more on the other end of the scale and should focus on the running. Your rucking will be built up over time anyway and passing the 12 mile should be easy by the time you get to it through basic training, Pre-RASP and the earlier weeks in RASP. Try to get your 5 mile below a 35 minute time consistently, you need to remember you are going to be doing this PT tests while already tired and run down from weeks of selection not when you are fresh under ideal conditions, the weather might suck ass that day, etc. Basically you would have to be pretty out of shape to not pass the ruck, but the 5 mile gets a lot of people who over-estimate their running fitness.

      @nocturnekineticsweaponsand470 Yeah I'm about 190, I can squat 455 so I'm not so much worried about the leg strength just the endurance aspect, i guess I'll stick to just plain running tho to build that up

    Even at my peak gym size around 215-220lbs at 6'1 my cardio was always shit. The bigger I got the worse it got. I could rep 225+ all day but push-ups was meh. Can you build up to passing rasp with decent strength but bad cardio?

    I know you said you aren’t a workout guru but you seem to be muscular and so I’m wondering if you can help me .
    I’m 16 and weigh around 155 pounds and 5’10 and you could call me scrawny and I’m wondering if you think I’ll get a more grown body since I look clearly like a teenager and I’m worried I won’t be able to carry those heavy Ruck sacks .
    Do you know what type of gym workout I should be doing to strengthen my back? And is there any PT routine you recommend me doing ?
    Just curious since you seem fit and I truly want to be apart of the 75th Rangers .

      Check out places like CronusFit, Capable Inc, etc and just start lifting weights, basic squat, deadlift, bench, barbell row, shoulder press, etc. You have plenty of time also, no need to join at 18 or any of that bullshit. I was 145lbs and 6'1" at 18 man, you will get there. Don't neglect running though, having solid endurance will help you with a lot of stuff. Best advice I can give is try to achieve a balance. I haven't always followed my own advice but when I have, it has had the best results.
