      As English speakers we learn that German is more Direct and to the point so in that sense you Germans appear to be half-way there to understanding Chinese directness perhaps.

    Siempre me acuerdo de una anécdota con la hija de mi Madrina, siendo hija de inmigrantes chinos en Latinoamérica, pero criada por personas nativas ya que sus padres trabajaban, no tuvo mucha influencia en las costumbres chinas, a veces cuando iba a mi casa, mi abuela o tía la saludaban preguntándole "viniste?" (ni hui lai la?) lo cual la enojaba y murmuraba "obvio que vine, ni que fuera un fantasma" jejeje muchos no entienden que esa es la forma de saludar, mostrando interés en lo que haces o en tu salud, por eso siempre preguntan si comiste, creo que es algo que data de cuando las personas pasaban hambre por guerras y pobreza y por eso es tan importante que tengas la barriguita llena, me encanta tus enseñanzas que no se consiguen en los salones convencionales, saludos 👏💖

    My friends from Malaysia used these function words all the time - 啦la、啊a、咯lo、呀ya, and encouraged me to use them to make my mandarin sound more authentic, but none could explain when or why they used them! Interesting to see they have some kind of meaning :-) though sounds very nuanced, like 啦 or 啊 or 呀 could crossover with 吗, I'd struggle with the differences, and I've not even mentioned them all!

    How do you greet customers in a retail or customer service setting? For example, in English we would say "Good morning/good afternoon/hello/how are you?" (and the customer would reply with the same) before offering our assistance. What would this conversation sound like in Mandarin in China?

    • @yiminchinese
      @yiminchinese  4 роки тому +5

      yes ,since it's just a meaningless greeting when you bump into someone, normally people just pass by very quickly, so they just say yes, more specifically, they would say 哎 as a yes, instead of 是。🥰🥰🥰thanks for commenting , I love reading from you guys, don't hesitate to ask if you have further doubt. 🥰

    As foreigners learning Chinese...is it okay to use these greetings with people we've met for the first time?
    Wouldn't it be rude of a stranger to approach a Chinese person and greet them using the formulas(a,la,ne) stating their actions.

    I know that "吃饭了吗? " chīfanlema (have you eaten?), you just answer with sounds like "Ng", "duì", "à... " and that's all. Is it respectfully for your family, your grandma/grandpa, etc? I need to know when to use those forms because textbooks are all wrong 🤧 also, can anybody understand these greetings or is it a dialect from specific place?

    你好,我是一位在中国留学的研究生。我跟中国人一起上课,还有我是班里唯一的外国人。我想分享一下我的想法。我几乎在校园里没听过“出去啊” “吃饭了吗”之类的句子。这里的学生都用“嗨”或者“哈喽”。我也用“嗨”来跟我的同学们打招呼。此外,我们要用“你好”,“再见”跟老师打招呼。又一次,我对老师说“拜拜“,可是其他中国同学说”再见“。 所以, 我们要得看情况。就是说,某些人一般用某些打招呼的用语, 比如说,我的中国同学对我说她们只有跟家人使用”吃饭了吗“之类的句子,但是跟朋友使用“嗨”或者“哈喽”。还有要得情景。在一种正式情景下当然我们要用“你好”,“再见”。这是我的在留学生的经历的基础上的想法。

    • @yiminchinese
      @yiminchinese  4 роки тому +1

      哇,你的汉语很好啊,不愧是研究生。👍👍👍👍你说得对, 要看具体情况。而且不管在哪个国家, 不同人群的语言习惯都是不一样的。校园里的用语有别于社会用语,留学生接触的人群和普通中国人也不一样,而且大多数情况下,当一个中国人和外国人说话是,会不由自主地用一种区别于中国人的语言习惯去交流。 谢谢你在这里和我们交流你的意见。

    That's really interesting, but it is not that uncommon in English. I often won't say, 'how are you' to a friend if I bump into them. This is a little formal. I will often use this way of greeting also. I will say 'hey, you here playing football too' or 'hey, are you seeing this movie also' or 'hey, are you studying law too?' So, I don't think this way of greeting is that unusual for English speakers.

    noooo haha i want useless greetings and empty platitudes. This is the only way i know how to communicate. How do china live addressing every tiny action? I will not like to speak like that :(. Here we will have entire conversation that doesn't matter at all. "Hello, how are you? I'm fine as well, thank you. Don't work too hard. Have a good one." is entire conversation you can have with any male and they will answer in a way for you to still finish the greeting without actually interacting or caring about the other person at all, we just want to seem like happy person by having lots of talking for no reason. Strange and almost inappropriate in canada to pay attention to what other person is doing, they will want privacy and it is not my concern to ask what activity they are doing.
    e: canadian man will often not know the name of neighbor who is having "scripted" conversation but will guard this man and this mans belongings how child will guard parents belongings in china.

      Hi James, it's very interesting the things you shared with us. haha .we do have something in common and the difference is also very interesting, for Chinese neighbors , we just address the obvious action that is happening, it's another way to avoid deep conversation, so somehow it's also to protect the privacy haha.😂
