Actually, the real EL DEGUELLO was a trumpet call. This is the version Dimitri Tiomkin wrote for John Wayne's "The Alamo".... it was brilliant and moving as only Tiomkin could do... as a native Texan, it still impacts me and I think of the real ALAMO, not a movie. So, Dimitri, job well done!!.... when legend conflicts with the facts, print the legend...."the Man who shot Liberty Valance"

For me it's the song of loving and tragedy in loving... OK, we had enough war and killing, let's go to talk about love, marriage, having a family with a good future for our children
The Mexican army took it from the Spanish, who took it from the Moors - it was played to accompany the black flag - an indication that no quarter will be given after the battle, and no prisoners taken.
This is *the* piece where all American film music stems from. Sergio Leone told Ennio Morricone (RIP) to make the score for his Westerns sound like Dmitri Tiomkin - and you hear it throughout. As it happens I am Irish, but appreciate that it was a Russian/Ukrainian Jew (Tiomkin) who originated the best music from this whole genre: and trust the Israelis to come up with such a bravado performance. I was deeply moved. Shalom to y'all!

The slit throat song. The Mexican army played it to the defenders of the Alamo for 13 days before their final assault. Meaning in shot you are all going to die no quarter given

After defeating Santa Ana at San Jacinto, the Americans should have HANGED Santa Ana as a war criminal!
I get angry over those wishing to denigrate the American Heroes of the Alamo siege.
I still say the Texans should have hanged Santa Ana as a war criminal after his capture following the smashing defeat of Mexico at San Jacinto.

You know this song means cut throat in English rights it’s a song that talks about no quarter to the enemy death to all look it up
For me it's the song of loving and tragedy in loving... OK, we had enough war and killing, let's go to talk about love, marriage, having a family with a good future for our children

I keep coming back to hear this masterful performance. It brings me joy!
it is full of melancholy......the first time I heard it in Rio Bravo
then when Stumpy accompanied it with a harmonica even more so......

Detractors complain about the John Wayne version of The Alamo. But I thought it was a good, and certainly inspiring film.
It is really a riddle to me that how Dimitri Tiomkin could catch the American flavor so exactly (as Gig Young stated).....
The song is actually Mexican through way of Spain from the Moors of Northern Africa if you really want to know it’s roots
A lot of Americans like Mexican music , sounds Mexican to me
