I just wanted to say, as a kid I had a learning disability which I've discovered doesn't ever leave even as an adult. It's a matter of adjusting and thinking outside of the box . You've mentioned your same plight growing up with a learning disability. What you've done to overcome your challenges is so cool to watch. Your success is inspiring for people like me.
I do applaud you. I'm in my 40's struggling with anxiety depression and life adjustments. Watching you encourages me to take care of myself along with my family. To save money and just to keep moving forward. You're awesome

Commercial flower farmer here, just a tip, leave at least an inch or 2 of space in your soil block tray so you can flood that area with water. Then tip tray to water the blocks. Soil blocks need to be bottom watered to stay together and to avoid algae as much as possible.
I have been waiting for a good sale to get my first greenstalk. I can't wait! Thank you so much for the tip on the potting soil that works best. I have been watching for years and you have been so inspiring to me. It seems like you always have just the video I need and I never miss! Keep doing what you are doing and God bless!

Great video Becky! Gonna try your pizza rolls sometime when all my kids come to visit. I’m also hoping to start growing my own garden seeds into plants instead of just buying plants all the time. I do start my bigger seeds like squash, cucumbers inside and lettuce, radishes, carrots, spinach I direct sow, but I want to grow peppers, tomatoes, egg plant into plants to plant out in my raised beds. Where did you get you stands with your grow lights????
Congratulations to the sponsorship from Greenstalk. I'm so happy for you. By the way in Germany we would call the pizza rolls "Pizzaschnecken" so pizza snails, because they look like the house of a snail.

Funny thing about that Happy Frog potting soil--I purchased several bags of it year before last. About half way through one of the bags, I discovered a small squirming mass. Low and behold it was a tiny toad! No kidding! I tucked the little guy in with one of my potted plants. I figured he would like that better than the potting soil, despite it's Happy Frog name.
I love how natural you are when filming. You chat away to the camera like you can actually see us watching you! And you made me laugh when you pointed out that the potting soil was not made using frogs!!! 🐸 Yesterday I also made the pizza rolls which I saw on TikTok - a Martha Stewart recipe. Totally delicious and so versatile. 💚
You are amazing--you've been multi-tasking for a long time during this video and you're still going strong! I'm 77 years old and I wish I had a small fraction of your energy and enthusiasm for life! I can't wait to see your garden this year. God bless!

I just want to share something with you. Instead of using the clear bin for your soil soil blocking, you should really look into getting a small cement mixing plastic tub at Home Depot. The sides are low and the bottom is flat and it is so much easier to make soil blocks with. I totally enjoy using it!! ❤
You are so good at not wasting time, I love that you start something that needs to be done, have it “sit” while you begin another project! I do have one suggestion, when I was teaching my grandchildren in my kitchen, baking and cooking, I always stressed to Not plug-in my mixer until I had the beaters in. I have heard too many times people getting hurt by the beaters as they put them in. It’s just to easy to bump the on button and that is dangerous. I just don’t want you to get hurt. ❤
Becky, I would use texured floor or deck paint on your grow room floor as I noticed you use a water hose in this room. I painted my deck with a light texured paint. I don't slip on it when it rains or the sprinklers are on. Iove your channel !

I’m not sure the time frame between going from garden to kitchen, but one thing you want to be aware of is your kitchen items and food bringing fungi and contamination to your plants through your apron and clothes. The only reason I know this is because years ago I worked at a gardening plant starter company that grew starts from votings from other plants and we had to be very careful not to bring cheese and other items into the greenhouse germination area. You may want to change your apron or have one just for gardening, just a suggestion. Hugs from Texas!
@@cajbafI understand that a lot of people do that. However, I'm not sure if this is the case this time. I heard you say that some viewers did not like the idea of pouring boiling water on the compost. I had never heard about this and have decided to try it out. But it had felt a bit funny to pour hot water on potting soil mixed with earthworm castings. This morning as I was ready to prep more potting medium for my seeds, it dawned on me that a seed in itself has enough power stored within it to germinate till it's first true leaves. This meant that I could just sow seeds in sterilized potting soil, and feed them with mild organic fertilizer. Once seeds grow and I need to repot them, then I will use earthworm castings and not sterilize, because at that point, many of them can be potted or hardened outdoors. I don't have a grow room, I just have a large area in the kitchen that becomes a seed growing area in the spring. I cannot afford black flies going everywhere in my house. So sterilizing regular potting soil indoors is a must. Thank you for your post and sharing
Becky, I I'm so grateful that you were sponsored by greenstalk. I have watched you over the last couple of years with your greenstalks and wanted one. I took advantage of your offer of a discount and ordered my first greenstalk. It came yesterday and I am so excited. I can't wait for planting season. I live in Southern Ohio and have to wait another month before I can plant outside. I ordered the inventor's bundle, which came with 3 tiers of the ten inch and 3 tiers of the leaf planters. It's so wonderful to have this waiting for me. It's unbelievable how much you can accomplish in your show. I just wish I had the energy to keep up with you. You mentioned an interest in making some fig Newton like cookies. I have a recipe that was my grandmother's she made every year at Christmas time. She Immigrated from Sicily as a young girl and met my grandfather on the boat that she came over to America on. It is much like a fig Newton. But instead of a cakey like texture on the outside it has more of a cookie like texture.I love them and try to make them every year. If you would like the recipe, I would be happy to share.
Poppy seed ,Scatter the seeds on the ground and do not cover them, as sunlight is needed for germination. If your climate is dry, keep the seeds moist with a fine spray
My Mom was a good hobby flower girl. One of the beds was a mix of black eyed Susan's, purple/pink cone flower and Shasta daisy's. Not to much of the white Shasta, your just wanting to breakup the color field, the white gives your eyes a place to "rest". It brightens and adds vibrancy to the color in the bed. It was a show stopper every year with lots of people stopping bye. Batchelor buttons and asters are some of my favorites every year, but they are annuals and need to be reseeded each year. When working 12-15 hour days in the garden is not enough. When they finally connected several large sections of the rails to trails we were out at 1 of the trail head parking lots planting just a few Batchelor button seeds under cover of darkness. When they came up they were so beautiful and was featured in the paper. Some ladies groups had garden tours for their groups fundraiser. You should go if you can find any near you. You can learn allot from these other gardeners and so inspiring.
Yeah, hot water hydrates faster, so it makes sense that it works better when you let the soil sit awhile. I just wanted to say how lovely the grow room looks, even without your forever floor. It makes a nice backdrop for your seed videos, and I am sure it is nicer to work in. 🥰 I can’t wait to see your beautiful garden come together this year. ❤
My wife is learning to do more from scratch and we are trying to grow a ton of food. Thanks for inspiring her and getting her on my side :) She’s from Amish decent but not Amish. We getting there tho 😊😂
Greenstalks are amazing. I have used your old discount code with each of my purchases from them! If I had more space I would buy more. I could never have been a gardener without them because of my small yard.
I’m adding my encouragement for you to use paving paint (with added grit to prevent slipping) on the floor in your grow room. We have recently used it on semi-enclosed concrete area about the size of single garage after 20+ years of it just being concrete. The difference is amazing! I’d say it would suit the current use of this room involving lots of dirt and water, and if you change its use in the future you can still lay flooring on top of it. I’m in Australia so I’m not sure if you call it paving paint in the US. It’s a specific product for concrete and similar surfaces, usually outdoors or in a room similar to yours. It’s already non-slip and adding the special grit makes it more so. A bonus is none of the dust that comes up off the concrete.
We call it word by word "pizza snail". We also call everything else with different topping but the same shape a "snail". Cinnamon snail. Cocoa snail. I think it's quite fitting as they look like the swirls of the shell of a snail.
I really, really want to see you up-pot the seedlings that have multiples. I haven't had much success with the multiples, so I'd like to see how you do it, up close. 💖🌞🌵😷
Delighted with Greenstalk sponsoring you,a worthy recipient,I'm glad you explained about putting the seeds in the fridge,I wouldn't be an experienced gardener,I really enjoy watching you planting etc, those pizza rolls looked delicious.
As you sit there think about your knees... Do they hit the cabinets? If so you can separate them for a space for your knees. Instead of screwing the cabinets together, you can screw them to the wall for your knee space. 💖🌞🌵😷
Becky, I truly am so glad I found your channel a few months ago. I have learned how to make soil blocks and you helped me to become inspired to grow my garden again. I also love seeing all of the different recipes you make and have made some of these for me and my 2 teenage kids. I'm grateful the Greenstalk sponsored you and I just used your code to buy 2! I've been wanting these ever since I saw them on your channel in one of your other videos. Thank you for being an inspiration and for showing us as you do some of the usual things and for all of the new things you try!
You know something Becky? I truly enjoy your videos, but 90% of what goes through my mind every other day when I watch you is: Your mom and dad. What an amazing job they have done, it's almost as if I could see them molding you, like the Creator molded Adam... We, as parents pour so much (for good and for bad) of ourselves into the human beings we are raising! I salute and congratulate your mom and dad (and their village) for the job they have done! Please, if you read me, let them know there are thousands of people thanking them for the amazing human being they raised. Thank you. May God bless you all!!! ❤
Becky, in so excited about the green stocks. I just had my 40th birthday and asked for one. Out of surprised, I was gifted two of the basket weaved ones. I can’t wait for them to arrive. Because of you I have become more in all of gardening, preserving, and trying new recipes. As a kid we did a lot of canning and it is bringing back so many good memories. Since I started watching your show, I have now invested in a freeze dryer, digital canner, and now two green stocks. I have also improved my gardening area by putting in a few raised beds. I cannot wait to see what this year brings. I’m a little scared though this is the first year I have started my own seedlings. Pray that they turn out well, I am taking your advice and I bought the Vermont compost you use in hopes I will get the same results.
You might think of starting a outdoor flower garden that you can walk through and make little sitting areas and tables in garden to enjoy and entertain . Maybe a little fountain here and there or little pond. You have a beautiful piece of property. Your Awesome
Thank you, Becky and GreenStalk. I ordered my 2nd Greenstalk today. This one is going in the front of my house for easy harvesting when cooking. I will have to wheel it in the garage for the evening so not to feed the deer overnight (they don' t share the goods..they eat them all! ) :) Have a blessed day!
So excited my zinnia plants are started!!!!waiting for morning glory sunflower daisy cosmos sweet pea & lavender to come to life!!! Yours look good!!!!!!!!
Just snip those extra starts out of each soil block with a sharp, pointed scissor. It took me a year to feel comfortable doing this, but now I find it so freeing! Only very expensive seed will get separated and planted in my space.
There are such sweet people in this community. The soil blocks are beautiful. They look like brownies. I'm glad everything is germinating well. I decided to direct sow only this year. Risky, I know. Then, sadly, we just had a late frost here in Alabama. Everything seemed to fair okay except for one variety of tomato seedlings. We will see what happens over the next few days. Oh, well. P s I vote for turning the seed room back into a laundry room/utility room. It will open up the other room for a bedroom. After the greenhouse comes, that is. And it is coming. It's coming for me, too.Which is when I will probably start seeds indoors.
I had a 💡moment when you said you'd do your office work then reward yourself with transplanting alll those seedlings. For me, it would be the other way around! 😂 I've always admired people with extensive gardens and watched TV gardening programs, read gardening books, and now watched YT videos. I thought I'd like to try it, but it never happened. And now I know why - it's not my passion! By a long shot! So now I can watch guilt-free and simply enjoy watching those who create in this way and grow beautiful food. Thanks for that! I can't believe I'd fooled myself all those years! 😂
Good morning, Becky. Such a lovely video. My comment is speaking to cold stratifying your seeds. If you watch the Garden Answer channel, Laura has done something called winter sowing for the past couple of years. Very simple, sowing seeds in recycled milk/water jugs and leaving them outside and unattended for the winter months. She's had varied results but for the effort expended worth the time. Good luck on your planting.
I thought the whole reason to use boiling water to make the soil blocks was to kill gnat eggs/larvae, etc. so that you can prevent that issue since you’re starting the plants inside. It’s true that it hurts to see you sterilize such good compost and soil to start seeds. Maybe use a less expensive mix and up pot them with the good stuff (and fertilize of course). Love the channel!
Rudbeckia, echinacea, and others that you mentioned are great candidates for winter sowing. In addition to the obvious savings in space, time, heat expense, etc, the plants that grow are stronger. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
I read an article that said Dalias do not like root disturbances so that when you plant seedlings you should plant them in a compostable pot that you can just take and plant directly into the garden. That's what I did with mine if you've had success doing it this way I'd really be interested to know that. Also my husband who is a retired contractor although he did not see the crack in your foundation he did say that there is an industrial epoxy that you can inject into the crack of the foundation that will expand to fill it and that could get you like 10 more years.
I noticed my seeds are starting to push the soil up! Ill have sprouts any minute! Lol yay spring🎉 thank you for motivating me to get them started. I work full time, havent made time to do what I love like I should. Used to have good sized gardens when my kids were growing up. I stayed home with them then. I always grow some tomatoes. This year Ive added peppers, basil, & a few flowers; from seed.😊 Im excited! Thanks for the encouragement❤Im impressed with all you do. I can see & feel how much you enjoy doing it. Youre awesome!
We love happy frog and have used it for years. I am growing so many flowers this year too. I started dahlias and poppy seed today. So excited for this year's growing. God bless!🌱🌾
Hi Becky, just ordered a Green Stalk. Thanks for the discount code! I've been wanting one for awhile. I'm so happy they are sponsoring you. I'm interested to see if your poppy seeds germinate. I've never thought to try those. Have a blessed week! ~ Becky U
So Becky I was watching about your flight and you said you lived in the Pacific Northwest so I did a little research and I live across the river from you. So you flew out of the Portland Air Port. Enjoy your videos so very much.
Tik Tok showed with two shelves stacked out put a tote in between and then use top shelf as a table to fill pots. Any dirt that falls goes into the tote
Becky, a suggestion....in your grow room: leave the concrete floor but have them stain it. It looks great and you can even get the to stamp it with a wood plank design (there are several patterns to stamp into your concrete, but I don't know if it can be done with a concrete floor but it would be worth asking. That way you wouldn't gave to worry about a water leak or getting your floor wet. And dirt could be swept up easily. Love the green stalks. Love that they wanted to sponsor the video! That's great!
Yes, I too love that book “Freeze Fresh” by Crystal Schmidt. Chelsea from Little Mountain Ranch got me hooked on it!! Try the Carrot-Coconut Almond Flour Muffins on page 71. They freeze up beautifully!!😊
Couple things. For poppy seeds you eat you have to treat them a specific way from what I have been researching. Also keep in mind that for the lavender for soap, it will turn brown no matter what. If you want that pretty blue purple flower on top, try a blue butterfly flower. In thinking about the floor in the grow room - I'd almost leave it as concrete until you build thr green house. So much easier to keep clean and not ruin the floors from watering plants
Got my 2 Green Stalk planters. So excited to use them this year. Have to wait for a bit. It froze last night…. I will use 1 for all herbs and 1 for all flowers
🇦🇺Hi Becky, for your hose you need a retractable hose reel. You can tug it one way to keep it out at a length you need then tug the hose in the opposite way for it to retract and sit nice and neat against the wall.
In your area you could plant your seeds and put them outside to cold stratify them. Just let them come up outside. Some people do that in milk jugs. You just have to make sure the seeds don’t dry out.
Hello Becky, you are a delight. I enjoy your content and you have inspired me tremendously. I am loving your grow room content and can't wait to see all the things you plant in your Green Stalks. Happy first day of Spring and happy planting! 🌱❣️🤗

baker creek seeds sells bunny tails seeds. They are super easy to grow and the cutest thing for adding to a vase. You should check them out.
Go Becky, look at you getting sponsored!
Hello, nice to be your friend
I purchased Greenstalk because of you! I got 2 and I love them❤
YAY!
And today I bought 2 more. I will give 1 to my mom. ❤ Thank you!
Wow I planted my seeds this weekend and I checked yesterday and they are starting to sprout. I am so excited. ❤❤❤
It’s crazy how fast some things sprout!
@@AcreHomesteadyes. I couldn’t believe it. ❤❤❤
Thanks for inspiring her and getting her on my side :)
She’s from Amish decent but not Amish. We getting there tho 😊😂
That is awesome!
So happy for you!! I love Greenstalk, I am going to use your code. Thank you.
The seedlings look amazing. Great job!!!
I hope you love it!
@@cynthiafisher9907 , yes, exactly. What do you do if the roots are longer that the new pot? 💖🌞🌵😷
Delighted with Greenstalk sponsoring you,a worthy recipient,I'm glad you explained about putting the seeds in the fridge,I wouldn't be an experienced gardener,I really enjoy watching you planting etc, those pizza rolls looked delicious.
Love watching you plant the seeds learning a lot.the pizzas we call them pinwheels
Becky, I would call them Pizza Pinwheels.
Agree pinwheels
If you have marinated artichokes, sun-dried tomates, so yummy on a pizza, even love roasted eggplant, zuccini, onions and peppers. Yum! 😊❤
Wish I knew about the dough hook of your kitchenaid. I know a way better one then what comes with it originally, and it fits on the kitchenaid.
The lavender would look beautiful in your rock wall
I can’t wait to see these flowers bloom, they’ll be so beautiful!
I've always admired people with extensive gardens and watched TV gardening programs, read gardening books, and now watched YT videos.
Becky, they all look so healthy and it is getting exciting to watch your garden GROW!
I love getting all this inspiration from your videos.
My 2 year old daugther LOVES to watch your videos with me as well
I love this time of year SO MUCH. Extra great to share the enthusiasm of others, and you're a gem for inspiration. Thanks!
Your landscaping is going to be stunning! Keep in mind that lavender does best in well-draining soil. It really doesn't like wet feet.
Cement is really easy to paint and looks good painted
I thought the whole reason to use boiling water to make the soil blocks was to kill gnat eggs/larvae, etc. so that you can prevent that issue since you’re starting the plants inside. It’s true that it hurts to see you sterilize such good compost and soil to start seeds. Maybe use a less expensive mix and up pot them with the good stuff (and fertilize of course). Love the channel!
I just ordered my first Greenstalk! I live in a patio home with very limited growing space! Ty for the discount!
I just made my first greenstalk purchase!! Thanks Becky! This is going to be a great birthday gift for my dad!
@@cynthiafisher9907 thank you
Congratulations on being sponsored by Greenstalk! That sale is too good to pass up 😊 It's so much fun to see those seedlings come up!
You could put an acid wash on the concrete and then put rubber mat where you will be standing in front of the counters
~ Becky U
Hey Becky , All tomatoes do not sprout at the same time , so do not worry about some not sprouting at the same time as others do...
We call them Pizza Pinwheels. Delicious! Thank you for bringing us along in your gardening and cooking projects. You are a breath of fresh air.
We use Happy Frog potting soil for our plants.
I just bought this soil for my starts
Ordered my first greenstalk! Everyone is offering discount codes, but BECKY was the one I used!
There is great paint available for painting cement floors. I think that would look great, and more affordable than LPV.
I think you could also winter sow instead of cold stratification.
My sister and myself love your videos. Thanks for the info on the green stalks I just bought one for her birthday today and a house warming gift.
Its so fun to follow your gardening journey, I'm loving these videos Becky ❤
Hi friend!! Its always good to see you!!❤😊
Yes, I too love that book “Freeze Fresh” by Crystal Schmidt. Chelsea from Little Mountain Ranch got me hooked on it!! Try the Carrot-Coconut Almond Flour Muffins on page 71. They freeze up beautifully!!😊
In Australia, it's called a pizza scroll. It is more often than not a snack for children to take to school for lunch.
After oiling the bottom of your baking pan, you could sprinkle with cornmeal for additional traditional pizza flavor/texture.
So excited for the amount of snapdragons you’re growing this year
Heating up the soil just makes so much sense. Killing things that shouldn’t be there.
