As it happens, though I doubt I'd ever want to anything by them under their own name, the "FFS" album, including the B-side they didn't put on it, I do like, and it was far less a worrying result once I got to hear it, which was about a month or so after the first comment I made above. There are far worse collaborator ideas out there (yes I'm looking at YOU Elton John and Stevie Nicks for whom you pick, for instance), but on the whole yes, though I reckon 'Dictator's Sun' woulda made better single than 'Police Encounters'.

As a kid growing up in the UK in the 70s, the two must watch shows were Doctor Who and Top of the Pops. The scariest things that appeared on Doctor Who were the Daleks and the scariest thing that ever appeared on TOTP was Ron Mael (well maybe Jimmy Savile in hindsight).
