10. Easy. Cruise's finest performance (along with Tropic Thunder). And the directing/editing showcases the characters without seeming deliberate. There's clarity in the 3-D space among the chaos. The tones: cinemagraphically, pacing, music, casting, sound effects, - everything - is congruent with the rest of the movie. It shows the care and good taste (appropriate aesthetic decisions) of the film makers.
HAHAHA I came here for this comment... At one part midway through the scene people are still dancing after dozens of shots have already gone off... 2:41
Michael Mann did a amazing job giving Los Angeles that Miami Vice look I didn’t think I would say this, but Tom Cruise may be a better actor, playing a villain than the hero plus the music of the movie sets the tone perfectly
Love that tac reload. So rare to see anyone reload in a movie. Also Cruise's form in the supine shooting drill is excellent. He must have trained hard for this.
He was trained by Ex sas who now runs a security company. He said Tom Cruise was freakishly good he offered him a job. He said he was natural very focused and disciplined
he did a lot of authentic training for this role and old cruise was always physically very fit. michael mann applied the same authentic training detail to his film HEAT.
If you had asked me before this movie was made who I would cast as Vincent, Tom Cruise definitely would not have been my choice. And yet now, after this insanely good performance, it's actually hard to think of anyone else in the same role.
I know a lot of people don't like Cruise for whatever reason, but I think he is one of the most best actors in the movie business. His films are almost always compelling and fun to watch, and his characters have a lot of personality and depth. Also, he rehearses each scene to make sure it is right, including many of the most difficult stunts. It's too bad that the Academy is so political - he should have won an Oscar by now.
I love this scene, where Vincent's composure from earlier in the movie is totally gone. You can tell by how he shoves his way through the crowd he's irritated with how his nights progressing, and how much brutality he takes out the guards just to vent some of his anger.
I'm guessing he staked out the club and knew where all the exits were vs the cop who only knew where the front doors were and it took a while getting through the crowd.
Or more simply the shots are not in perfect cronological order. The cop could've taken out Max at the same time as Vincent is going out but its shown as if it's like 30 seconds earlier.
Its Vincents trademark. The LAPD cop mentions it in the morgue earlier in the movie when he's looking at the corpses of the two dudes that stole Vincents briefcase. Two very close shots to the chest and one in the forehead.
@@tonychan8558 He should have got this one, too. He had to MAKE a character, MAKE us believe it was a real person and not Jamie Foxx. He succeeded beyond anyone's imagination in doing it.

@jameswilliams-zr8co I don't agree. Collateral is more realistic. Perhaps in real life, you can find people like Vincent ,not 100 % like him, but mostly
come on dude....if we're talking realism, the fat asian dude would have been long gone....rather than sitting like a duck at the table the entire shootout
@@Tris70 When you have to say the words "comic book type of world" you're just avoiding admitting that it's extremely unrealistic and cartoonish. If that's what you want in a movie, that's fine. But just admit that it's an extremely different thing from realism.
DJ keeps the Jason Bourne music running. Club security keeps the lights off. Fat Chinese target just sits and waits to get shot. Apart from that, Tom Cruise is awesome.
this Ready Steady Go is the korean style Junbi, Chulbal, Go version made by (the same DJ of first original theme) Paul Oakenfold......to me i like a liittle more the Bourne Identity (chasing scene in paris) Version specially the kind environment tracks used it by Oakenfold on that first, in the korean style is just more dance with some of a bit deep bass and drums ...
The fat Chinese dude was really trying to get up if you see closely, it was hard for him to do it alone because of his own weight. Even one of his guards was trying to lift him up for one moment.
i like how the target was stuck at the table for more than 3minutes after the first shot rang out and was pushing people out of the way but still stayed there. It's like a really fat dude who got pushed to the ground and was not able to get up.
This sounds weird af but i get very strong Vergil from devil may cry vibes from Vincent... The white hair and the cold and surgical fighting styles are a perfect match
Excellent movie, worth a view if you've never seen it and like action movies. I saw it when it first came out, then found a used DVD of it for $1 and have watched it two more times. Excellent acting by both Cruise and Foxx, they work together beautifully throughout the movie. This specific scene reminded me most of the club scene in Terminator 1 (and secondarily of the numerous and sloppy club scenes from the first two John Wick movies). Can't vouch for most of the firearms tactics, but from my range experience Tom does know how to hold and aim a pistol. Once again, a fantastic action movie.
I am neither military nor American - but know people who are. A US Navy SEAL once showed me how to wade through a crowd by tapping on people's knees in a manner similar to that used in the movie.
That was another awesome scene from the movie collateral the music the temple great close quarter combat guns knives single-handedly overpowered 8 10 men😮😊🎉🎉🎉
The scene that made me buy a USP .45, also a favorite from the original Rainbow Six games as a child. One of the most underwhelming pistols I've ever shot.
I agree with the general sentiment that Tom Cruise should play the bad guy, like Vincent, more often. "Mr. Grey" was enjoyable to watch. Vincent was shorter than all the other characters. But it goes to show you that if you're short but well trained in combat, you can handle just about anyone.
