My grandfather was an engineer on the railways in Darlington and always had pieces of Lignum Vitae (an African hardwood I think) in his workshop at home and told me he used to make bearings for the axles on rolling stock to replace worn originals.This was before and during WW2
What a nice, simple, and presumably cheaper way of using a bearing. Saves metal to metal contact and wear. Now that is old School. 👌

I believe all rollers have wooden bearings mine a fresh Fleming roller have them looks simple to replace bearings 👍
