It's really nutty to try and count how far back the era of Rauru and Sonia actually is. The calamity happened 10,000 years before Breath of the Wild and Skyward Sword is all the way back at the START of the Zelda timeline. They don't actually found Hyrule then, they just start living on the surface. It could well be 50,000+ years between Hyrule's founding and Breath of the Wild for all we know.
But if it’s before the events of Skyward Sword, then how is Demon King Ganondorf there? Shouldn’t Demise be first? I just think we need to be realistic and acknowledge that the Zelda timeline was retroactively created and is full of holes. It’s less of a headache to just enjoy each game (and direct sequels) on their own.
@@R0bilicious I'm pretty sure the implication is that it takes place after Skyward Sword. From what I understand, the end of Skyward Sword is the origin of people living on the surface, and then, however many years later, Rauru founds the kingdom of Hyrule. Then insert every other Zelda game here. Then the original Calamity. And then, 10,000 years later, BotW. I could totally be wrong though, especially since I still haven't finished Skyward Sword. This is just how I've understood it. I think it mostly works, but there is the hiccup of the Rito existing at the time of Hyrule's founding. That's probably pretty retcon-y.
@@luisdaprodigy2208there was more than one. The first one had the invention of the Divine Beasts, the one 100 years ago was when they dug them up again to fight the reawakening Gannon who then took over the Divine Beasts
Considering the whole story, it's likely that totk is still at the end of the timeline. Sonia and Rauru founded a new Hyrule, something that has happened multiple times in the series, but not the very first Hyrule. The ramifications of the time loop just does not gel at all with any of the previous games (unless there's some sort of temporal merging). But that only makes the timeframe more vast, because all those other heroes have faded to forgotten artifacts
I bought my first videogame only in 2022, never had any money for those as a kid/teenager. The reason I bought one, even though I had no experience playing anything at all, was because I had so many friends who spoke so dearly about the Zelda franchise, and I fell in love with BOTW visuals. As soon as I was off the shrine of resurrection, I WAS HOOKED. The following year TOTK came out and it was one of the most amazing entertainment experiences I ever had in my life. 860 hours of gameplay later, I started watching other people's gameplays so I could feel some sense of rediscovering the game through someone else's experiences. Yours is the best one I've watched. Exploring every little corner calmingly, taking the time to appreciate everything, brought me back the thing I felt seeing my friends talking about the franchise for the first time all over again. I completely love tour gameplays, thank you for that.
I prefer just diving through the ice circles when doing this boss. Especially when I fight it in the depths later, because then I can wear a full flight suit. Gliding past the ice spikes is really fun.
A cool thing about all the bosses in this game are the themes. They all have original zelda osts mixed into them. The wind boss here has dragon roost island and one of the bosses molgeras theme from wind waker.
Teba's pretty raw in Age of Calamity, definitely recommend playing that if y'all want more of this universe. As for the dungeon we take on in this part, it's a real keeper in my book. The boss is awesome too.
Crazy, he reversed a ruin and went into the locked tower from the top, i went into the nearby cave and ascended into it. Love watching how differently you play the game than I did.
Ok the rito boss fight was just sooooo cool wow. I think the build up going to the wind temple was a bit long climb but when u did all the puzzles in the temple and the boss dragon came was worth all of the climbing and flying 🤣🤣
always surprised by players doing that too. Not that its the wrong way to do the fight or anything, but diving through the ice while Tulin cheers you on is pretty awesome compared to just shooting a couple arrows.
I’m surprised people found that as an intuitive solution. I never thought you could dive through ice until I saw someone do it. I figured Link would take impact damage. The bow *is* less cool, but it’s also pretty in-line with older Zelda games for how you’d beat a boss like that so it was my go-to.
Now that's a username I have not seen in a long time. Hope all is well. I assume it's still Tom running things? I was in high school when I last watched you guys (which was 2008ish). Anyway! I found being below Colgera far easier since you have infinite stamina and slow down time works differently (you don't lose stamina anymore, until you fire an arrow FYI). There's also the a unique bow animation when diving. I never took damage being below this boss.
@@davidwhidden9337 haha yeah it definitely took a lot of attempts. But I didn’t have bomb flowers & I assumed regular arrows wouldn’t hurt him. So I just instinctively started diving when I saw ice🤷🏻♂️
Sorry if I missed it in this video or the previous one, but did Eric beat the Gloom hands enemy offscreen? I noticed he has a Gloom Sword here, hence my question.
Was just about to ask this myself. I didn't even know what the Gloom Sword is so when I saw him using it, circa 54:18, I looked it up and you're right: It seems to only be a drop from a Gloom Hands (Phantom Ganon) encounter. I do not recall him acquiring it. I tried defeating a Phantom Ganon when I only had 3 or 4 hearts and after dying a few times gave up. I haven't encountered one since but I'm gonna hunt for one now that I've learned about this sword 👍🏽
@@maikeru1990 Ah right, so Eric must have defeated it offscreen then. Not to really spoil anything but you're probably aware of the Gloom Hands being in other places, you might like the stuff they drop and not just a Gloom Sword, it'll be worth it. The Gloom Sword is a nice but risky weapon.
Last night I had another Gloom Hands encounter while out exploring and this time I was ready and took it plus Phantom Gannon down and now have my first Gloom Sword (and Demon King's Bow) 👍🏽
1:39:31 4,500 early-game rupees?!?! What resources did you collect and sell off-stream to get to this? In my opinion money feels much more difficult to come by in TotK vs BotW. Thanks!
5:17:07 Here is his response on getting coinage. Unfortunately no specifics, just that he hunted sky islands and sold a lot of materials over & over in a tedious fashion.
Why does everybody try to shoot the boss' weak points with arrows, instead of using the instantly obvious, intended, and way more fun and entertaining and satisfying way of smashing through it from above?
@@ozwell1088I think the problem is, nothing up to that point is really diving through the ice or so. though some reason first think I did try why diving through it too
@@galonski64 Yes there is. On the way up to the Wind Temple there is at least one, maybe two, points where you are supposed to smash through a sheet of ice after bouncing on the trampoline ships.

The more I play of this game, the more I find that bothers me. Same thing with Botw. It’s all just so tedious, repetitive and unrewarding. I want a new Zelda, not a sequel that feels almost exactly the same. These 10/10 ratings are crazy. There’s just so much room for improvements that seem completely ignored. I’m 100 hours in and I just don’t want to do anything anymore, there nothing fun to do. I hope we are done with these open world Zeldas.
Unfortunately for you, the incredible reception this game has received means we're definitely not done with open world Zelda. While I understand it's disappointing for you, and that's okay, this is what 3D Zelda is now. I am sorry it's not your cup of tea, though.
