as a day 1 IZ*ONE stan yena's solo route made so much sense to me. some folks dont vibe with the cutesy aspect but thats the kind of personality and vibe she always gave off outside of IZ*ONE songs. she always just wanted to make people smile. i personally love Smiley and Hate Rodrigo the best of her title tracks, but her B-Side Pretty Boys from her debut project is my absolute fav song from her.
Yena tends to get her besties for her featurings and both Bibi and Yuqi are her close friends! Yena has a very bubbly and fun personality and shes such a variety show queen so her bright concepts are totally meant for her. Whereas as a performer, Yena is a BEAST on stage so shes also AMAZING in concepts like Wicked Love.

The only reason I could think of that people didn't like Hate Rodrigo is that knets are reactionary and somehow assumed it was a hate song (???) against Olivia Rodrigo. The intent wasn't obvious enough to overcome shallow initial impressions. If you just, you know, read the lyrics, you can see it's a "you're so cool it makes me mad that I can't be cool like you, but it's not like I'm jealous or anything..." It's a pretty good song that has all of the Yena energy you could want with a catchy hook so I have to assume that was it, just a misinformed first impression.
