McClellan participated in dog fighting. McClellan's trainer and family admitted that McClellan was involved with fighting pitbulls, and on one occasion had used tape to bind the jaws of a Labrador shut before allowing his pet pit bull "Deuce" to kill it. Strange case of karma i'm afraid anyone that does that to a poor defenceless dog deserves what ever comes there way
I re-watch the fight all the time. I've never seen a more complete destruction of a boxer's will and confidence to win over the course of 10 rounds. What a complete warrior Benn was.

@@MrMorphback what was he winning over the course of 10 rounds? a guy with brain haemorrhage? l
Nigel Benn got put on his arse against mcelellan, got bashed to fcuk..... but still managed to get back into the fight and win it. Warrior is an understatement.
Nigel Benn versus Gerald McCallum is one of the only four fights, I ever bought a ringside ticket for . What are savage fight. I remember telling my father the next day on the phone that when the punches landed it sounded a bit like a football be kicked against a brick wall. Great interview by the way .
Benn v McClellan was an absolute war, after Nigel went through the ropes early on I think most thought it was curtains after that, but what a scrap it turned out to be. Cheers for this interview, good stuff! 🥊
Brilliant production Liam thank you so much for giving us a wonderful interview with Peter ...what a brilliant gentleman and very smart too ...please keep up the good work
Really enjoyed this Liam. Ambrose Mendy said Nigel was offered the Roy Jones fight and Ambrose said to Nigel "you can't beat this fella Nige".. Nigel said "for 4 million quid he can have my title.😂
Very interesting interview, Lovd watching Benn, One of the very few fighters that gave you a buzz of excitement with anticipation knowing that he was a fearless KO merchant that wasn't interested in scoring points. Seen the McClellan fight several times, absoltely epic , despicable person but wouldnt wish what happened to him, Two great great fighters both in their prime. Would like to see those press conference CD's uploaded.
Incredibly that very night I had a bad seizure in a London filling station and ended up in the Royal London and upon my discharge I walked straight into the sea of media that awaited news on McClellan who'd been taken there after the fight. Sadly memorable evening for the both of us. Thanks again Liam 👍
I remeber all these years - great interview - I remeber McCllellan threatneing Nigels Dad - and he wanted to Kill Benn - but it fired up Benn even more. Benns Corner were amazing that night to be fair. And the end of the 1st round Benn came back to his corner after taking a hammering and they say Benn down and told him McCllellan is fucked and blown himself out and go out there and dish it back on him and Benn came out the 2nd round and was a different animal totally.
Peter seems the type off manager you want..I don't see an ounce off slippery in him and the fact he made that decision without asking nigel before the fight n just handled the situation n got it all done n dusted before telling nigel then when told him nigel said right move..spot on..👍
I was a young offender and had backed my canteen on Nigel Benn winning We only had the radio to listen to it and even me as a Ben supporter I couldn’t believe that he could come back from being punched out the ring in the second round to win it wasn’t until the devastating effects of the fight on Gerald after That I could 100% except I’ve just probably just heard the greatest comeback in history
Is there any chance you could upload press conference footage talked about In this interview ? If love to see it as there's not much footage of the build up to this fight. Would be appreciated. Thanks
Barry Hearn the snake. If Benn won that it would have allowed Eubank to keep the WBO because he didnt pay the sanctioning fees. And theres Eubank always wittering on about the snakes in the sport when Hearn his promoter was trying to do the snide tricks for him.Glad they got Warren in because the fight was sorted and i got to see it after paying my £50. I saw a video with Gary Stretch who fought Eubank saying he was promised £1 million to fight Eubank for the title.Even if he lost which he did Hearn only paid him £20,000.If Stretch wasnt getting £1 miliion he should have been paid way more than 20 grand.Barry Hearn was really the biggest snake in British boxing.
Its nice to hear the other side just goes to show how these promoters try to screw the fighters I remember the fight it was so ruthless and vicious it was one of the best raw fights ever
McKlellen was vicious in the ring and out and a top level fighter. I was aware of the fact he taped a labradors snout shut so his pitbull could kill it but i had no idea of the wheelchair threats he made mentioned here. But if he and Watson (Also a great fighter) hadnt been injured, that division and that era might have been looked back upon very differently
Dan,, Watson was great,,, he definitely beat ubanks, un there first fight,, gerald would of probably been an all time great,, what an era,, we'll never see the likes of them again, unfortunately.
@mauriceosullivan6832 Imagine an era with Benn, Eubank, Mclellan, Watson, Collins and Roy Jones and later Calzaghe duking it out for top spot. Any could arguably beat any other on their top form (With Jones being the stand out) It mightve been like Hagler, Hearns and Duran but with 6 or 7 fighters
I'm so tired of hearing these lies repeated. McClellan's family never said anything. McClellan's trainer is alleged to come out with this bullshit story, but its been debunked time and time again.
A few weeks after the fight I was speaking with Dennie Mancini in Lonsdale shop, Beak Street, London.. Mancini couldn't stand Mccelllan.. RIP Dennie Mancini..
I recall Mancini screaming at the ref "make him fight on" because he knew at that point MCC was almost beaten and wanted Benn to finish him in style which he did in that frenetic 10th round.
They were both going in to take each others heads off they werent looking to win on points...great fight just a pity what happened to Gerald..terrible incident the documentary where nigel went to visit him was heartbreaking when he started crying i cried too...
Honestly, Mcclellan was already doomed, the damage was already there, Nigel just happened to be the one that triggered it, it was only a matter of time. The referee didn't help either.

It was easily the most brutal boxing match I've ever seen in my life, from beginning to end they went for each other relentlesly. After the fight was over, and you could see Benn was upset, not because of what had happned to McClellan, but because they'd expected Benn to be beaten to a pulp by this guy. He was saying how they bought McClellan over "to beat me up". I think that day Benn was just motivated by fury and the desire to show them that he wasnt a punk to use , to be a notch on a someone elses belt. Instead, Benn beat McClellan up. I have to be honest I was a massive Nigel Benn fan so I was pissed off at the way they were just expecting him to be a sacrificial lamb for McClellan.
Once I found out about McClelland and what he did with the dog fighting! And having dogs jaws bound so they couldn’t fight back! I couldn’t give a shit how it ended for him now! Karma payed the c*nt back big time for that.
taking drugs is one thing but animal cruelty and dog fighting is another , i have no time for that shit and to think that mclellans family wanted to sue benn for what happened after what he said before the fight its a disgrace and i have respect for benn in defeating that scumbag , he deserves the brain damage he received , same as wilder saying that he wanted to kill fury in the ring ? he should not be allowed to fight after saying those things
