@DogFish-NZ McLaughlin wanted to do nascar while in supercars until penski pinched him lol so there may be some hope.. although he probably wants to win an indy championship more now.
For these poor drivers on road courses, it doesn't matter how much tape you watch. He doesn't have a move, he has them all. Supercars guys would know a move was coming and would try to cover but his car control means he can pull out of it and switch in the braking area and get you the other side on the way out. Exceptional talent. Even with some small contact that would get fans salty he would win the drivers driver vote at end of year so you knew how much the other drivers relished the challenge. Always closer to the wall and looking for any small detail of the surface.. or off it to give the smallest advantage. . That's the stuff that will help him on the ovals. It will be interesting to watch the second run through the ovals to see what he has learned.
From NZ here, SVG has made me watch NASCAR again, first time since Jeff Gordon used to race. There is a huge amount of Motorsport talent in NZ and Au (just look at Indy, F1 and other series too). SVG is a beast of a driver, fast, very adaptable and as you said a man’s man. The mountain in front of him is huge, but he’s capable of climbing it. Also, love his drifting and burnout celebrations. Doing it behind Austin Hill was the ultimate troll 😂
It's been a long time since we've had a driver with this kind of appeal. And we've had some incredible drivers test the NASCAR waters before SVG. Something about him is different!
I completely agree with Martin. As another Kiwi, I'm now watching the Xfinity series because of SVG being there. SVG will squeeze as much out of the equipment as possible, so make sure you give him truly competitive gear. You can't be into win, if the engine is even 10HP down. Currently, I have no interest in the Cup series; until or unless SVG is in it. I used to watch every single race, sometimes even live. Jeff Gordon was my go-to guy as well. I'm similar with IRL... only watching because McLaughlin's there. I always kept track of Dixon's results (Literally NZ's *BEST*EVER* driving export) but I did not watch every race like I do now.
Watching NASCAR from Oz for the first time in years. Look at SVG’s background. He is genuinely a racer’s racer. He raced something in almost every discipline nearly every weekend in either Oz or NZ. When there were no full size cars to race he raced RC cars. Have a look at the footage of SVG in the Commodore at Eastern Creek (Sydney Motorsports Park) in a Supercar on wets on a drying track and he is flat out downhill on the main straight with two wheels on the grass trying to keep the tires cool. One lap he is in the grass on the left, next lap in the grass on the right! You guys have no idea what’s coming for you. You ain’t seen nothin’ yet!

From Indiana I'll say he's already got a lot of fans. Doesn't take himself all that seriously, but his racing - that's a totally different story. There were 7 major wrecks at Daytona and he was in six of them. He laughed and said only one was my fault. How can you not love this guy?

It's just great to see SVG being himself and loving the racing again. How many times has he said it's "boring" jut racing out front without any challengers. His favourite race memories (aside from Bathurst and Pukekohe) would be the battles he had downunder with Koztecki, Waters, McLauchlin, Moztert, Whincup etc. He's always had the talent and racing brain to win but you certainly need the right equipment under you to be able to use those talents to get the results you deserve. I tried to explain to everyone that if you that if you took the top 5 racers from every motorsport category in the world, and put them into any and every category in the world. Every single one of those drivers has the talent and tenacity to win on their day. But SVG will be in the top 5 every week in any and every car, on any and every track. Everything else is just noise and distractions. No one can get into his head, and he stays calm because every other emotion or reaction would be a hindrance to getting to the podium.
In terms of the cars, SVG prefers the cup car as the cup car is very similar to the Aussie Supercars that he used to race which explains his performance at Chicago last year. He's having to adapt to the Xfinity car as it's very unique and very old school.
You guys really need to seriously look at VS Supercars and especially the Bathurst 1000 (held in October each year) at one of the most difficult circuits in the world, and yes it is a street circuit. The course has an elevation differential of 570 feet. It is much narrower than your American racetracks, and top speeds of about 200 miles an hour. It takes 6 hours or so to run. There is an excellent UA-cam video by an ex VS supercar driver (Mark Larkham) that explains the track and the difficulty very well. It will also give you an idea of the skills needed and why street courses do not phase Aussie/NZ drivers at all. And to be clear, for us Aussies, the Bathurst 1000 is the race- period!

Cup cars are much closer to Supercar's than Xfinity., that's why he spanked everyone at Chicago. He needs to be in a Cup car, because the Xfinity car is slowing him down
I want to see some American drivers come and do V8 Supercars in Australasia. I think this is the best description of why it's lightning in a bottle. SVG is the genuine article in all the ways you described. Just a real guy.
The quality of drivers coming out of the OZ series is due to a long history of road racing that goes back a long way.. the current championship can trace its roots back to the late 60s, with a lot of the engineering side also being successful and sought after in Europe due to the quality of the mechanics who couldn't rely on off the shelf parts, so they had to improvise, thus making them better.. i'd suggest 10-15 drivers from OZ V8s right now could go close to what Shane is achieving, although its painfully obvious he is something special..
You've also got to take into account the cup cars are a lot closer to the v8 supercars he came from than the xfinity cars he's getting the hang of now.
Kind of strange how everyone is just so astonished at his success on these road circuits. He's been doing them for 15+ years and he's competing in the farm series league of NASCAR. I'd be more surprised if he doesn't run away with every single road race against these JR league drivers.
Aussie viewer here. I never really followed nascar after ambrose. Now that svg is doing good I have a renewed interest. The v8 supercars series breeds talent. I think nascar teams should seriously consider supercars drivers because SVG isn't the only one with the lightning in a bottle, I can guarantee you of that.
Aussie here. I want to see Kyle Larson in a properly prepared Supercar but not at Bathurst. Bathurst is too big of a mountain to climb for a rookie Supercars driver (pun completely intended)
No surprise to Kiwis and Aussies, the man is proper fast, once in a lifetime type stuff You guys will be seeing more Aussies and Kiwis, not so supercars is dying a slow death
I still have the negative comments in my mind from Americans and Nascar 'experts' after SVG Chicago WIN. 🏁 Has anybody changed their mind now. Australians that know SVGs abilities also know that he can Drive better than anybody you guys have seen. 🏁 🇳🇿 🇦🇺
@@FIA-F1 He's already placed in the top ten on ovals, he's raced and won a speedway championship too, ovals aren't new to him, once he's worked them out, he'll win. I have no idea why you think only Americans can drive round in circles...haha
The Cup cars are similar to the Supercars, so I don't see too many problems. He can drive midgets, sprintcars, rally cars, GT cars, supercars plus. Doesn't matter left or right set, manual or sequential. And he don't take shit from others. Will race hard and fair. Overall has potential.
In Australia the supercars only run 1 weekend a month roughly. For all the drivers here all they want to do is race every weekend. Unfortunately the supercars series is going backwards like SVG has said many times. I can't wait for him to win on an oval track but he has been saying road courses are easy it's the ovals he needs to learn a lot to succeed 🙂
He is the next Jimmie Johnson or Jeff Gordon, And if fellow Aussie Cam Waters gets a drive is going to get busy! Remember Cam started out in oval track and won championships before Supercars. Now, both America and Australia have produced 2 Formula 1 world champions, but Australian population is not even 10% of the US. We take this seriously 🤟🏻🤟🏻🤟🏻
Because he’s humble and not a WWE plant fake wanna be superstar, he’s actually deserving of a race car seat. These guys that aren’t good need to be replaced ASAP
I'm an Aussie, and I've started watching NASCAR, rather than Aussie Supercars. The main reason is that Australia no longer races own cars. As far as the actual event goes, Supercars is a far more entertaining style of racing. Supercars look way better, I can't tell you why, they just do. The TV coverage is way superior, and if you doubt that, remember, Australia was the inventors of in-car cameras, and help American teams adapt that to NASCAR. I do not like the stages part of NASCAR, but it is what it is. I'm also not of fan of bump and grind racing. But that, too, is what it is. However, if I have to watch American brand cars race, I might as well watch it from America. After all, everything else seems to be American. We have American Movies, American Music, American TV shows, American News reports. Hell, Australia seems to be completely engulfed with overseas entertainment. So, for now, as long as NASCAR keeps running street circuits, and Gizzy keeps winning, I'm happy to keep watching NASCAR.
Dude if you dont like " getting bumped" then go back watching your supercars simple as that. I love the way nascar is doing things, so if you dont like it dont watch. Plus svg on competes in roadcources fyi, he ia irrelevant on the ovels.
@@FIA-F1 Irrelevant on the ovals? I don't think so. He's still finishing ahead of most of your drivers. Top 10, top 15 finishes are not irrelevant. He's kicking your asses at your own game. And he doesn't mind bumping someone out of the way, just ask Hill. hahaha!
He’s very adaptable and proven himself in many categories etc. but yes, ovals are very different and provide a huge challenge. He is capable of adapting, it will be interesting to see how far he can get and adapt. That’s part of the excitement. I’m so curious to see his progress with ovals over the next few seasons

Cool how y'all called it the thunder from downunder. The only oval track, downunder, that needs a massive rebuild, is the 'thunderdome' at calder Park, Melbourne. now SVG will start to master ovals then look out when he does 🏆🏆🏆
SVG is awesome
Watching NASCAR every weekend from NZ and never watched before 😊. Really cool to watch and hope he gets a Cup place next year for sure.
It's a pity Will Brown had a dog of a car and Cam got caught up in that accident on bend 11.
Yes he was going very well till the electrics killed him
Gizzy is the real deal hes not their to drink piss after a win, he doesn't do bling he only does racing. thats his passion and yeah hes a mans man straight up..... and this mans name is Gizzie to us Kiwi's and Aussie's. he will get the oval sorted and i reckon it will be faster than most people think cause he loves winning but you will never see him bash his way to the podium because hes their to race, that will change if some drivers think they can muscle him outta the way A Hole found that out the hard way 100% lol so i hope A Hill will race him in the future and take the win the right way rubbing is racing but BS dont fly in NZ or Aus so race our guy and he'll respect ya more for it and yes if you give him a good car he will give you a smile from ear to ear and bring new ideas and pass on what hes has to the next gen conning thru the ranks which only means better sports for us to watch and how many young kids would that inspire
Can we keep him? We don't want to give him back. Just kidding. When he's done here, we will miss him. ❤
@@J-ge7qe Hes already yours now cause ya'll have given him something special enjoy it will hes their
Cup cars are much closer to Supercar's than Xfinity., that's why he spanked everyone at Chicago. He needs to be in a Cup car, because the Xfinity car is slowing him down
That is why Will Brown was very good at Sonoma, he went from 20 to 10th till electrics died
I want to see some American drivers come and do V8 Supercars in Australasia. I think this is the best description of why it's lightning in a bottle. SVG is the genuine article in all the ways you described. Just a real guy.
3:56 Lets not bloody forget about the NEW ZEALAND contingent here! I mean he is a bloody KIWI after all...
How good would svg and dinger wildcard at bathurst be
Not good SVG yes. Dinger no
@@robertryan7204 Dinger’s a beast on road and is his team mate. Why no to Dinger as his 2nd driver?
@@ayeyaaar2890 Very easy. He would struggle on that course if not used to it. Many international drivers have
@@ayeyaaar2890 Boris Said and Tommy Kendall had a lot of difficulties
You've also got to take into account the cup cars are a lot closer to the v8 supercars he came from than the xfinity cars he's getting the hang of now.
Kind of strange how everyone is just so astonished at his success on these road circuits. He's been doing them for 15+ years and he's competing in the farm series league of NASCAR. I'd be more surprised if he doesn't run away with every single road race against these JR league drivers.
Most of these races are on his first visit to the tracks, he might have 15+ years experience but not on these circuits or on this side of the car.
Chicago was in the junior league
Cool to see Danielle joining the show!
We love having her in the mix, for sure. Thanks for watching!
Shane is the real deal, about time to
Aussie viewer here. I never really followed nascar after ambrose. Now that svg is doing good I have a renewed interest. The v8 supercars series breeds talent. I think nascar teams should seriously consider supercars drivers because SVG isn't the only one with the lightning in a bottle, I can guarantee you of that.
And when he retires your gannna leave the sport?
@@FIA-F1 Do you have at least one intelligent comment ?
Let's stop the bullshit. The dude is a Future Nascar Cup champion. It's just a matter of time.
Yes, the Next 7 years
@@FIA-F1 You haven't got a clue but you keep making stupid comments, at least you're consistent..!!
Aussie here. I want to see Kyle Larson in a properly prepared Supercar but not at Bathurst. Bathurst is too big of a mountain to climb for a rookie Supercars driver (pun completely intended)
No surprise to Kiwis and Aussies, the man is proper fast, once in a lifetime type stuff
You guys will be seeing more Aussies and Kiwis, not so supercars is dying a slow death
s v g ,scotty dixon, scotty mac,bruce mclaren 😮
I still have the negative comments in my mind from Americans and Nascar 'experts' after SVG Chicago WIN. 🏁
Has anybody changed their mind now.
Australians that know SVGs abilities also know that he can Drive better than anybody you guys have seen. 🏁 🇳🇿 🇦🇺
Yes shortened race
@@FIA-F1 he's won 6 hr races ,12hr races, it wouldn't of mattered
@@FIA-F1 Also Shane was 18th when the race was shortened. 😂
@@lenny0347 Kyle Larson won more
@@FIA-F1 More as in smaller cup series in America? Because overall he hasn't won more races than svg. Shane won 81 races in supercars alone.
From an Australian point of view get ready for SGV Thats it you haven't got a choice, hes coming get over it
He will be irrelevant on ovels. Especially racing cup.
@@FIA-F1 He's already placed in the top ten on ovals, he's raced and won a speedway championship too, ovals aren't new to him, once he's worked them out, he'll win. I have no idea why you think only Americans can drive round in circles...haha
Anuzzer Aussie/Kiwi here watching Nascar with interest for the first time!.
Gr8 to see!.👍
Luvin' the footy kick into the croud too!.
Shane will most likely do better in Cup, they're like a V8 gen2 car which Shane drove for years.
We kiwis are humble intelligent real men and we love shane
And he doesn't mind bumping someone out of the way, just ask Hill. hahaha!
@@crustydownunder hill would have knocked him out if he has to. Top 15s don't give u points idiot.
Van Gisbergen and Larson for Bathurst.Theres a crowd drawer!
The dude is a 3 time V8 Supercars champion.... What'd you expect ????
He's our kiwi 🥝💪
tbh Im amazed how yappy he is in the media over there. Someone must have given him some coaching 😂
Nah he’s just happy to be away from convicts
@@gtestastretta1 Yanks can have him, he was washed up over here anyway.

@ray.shoesmith washed? Mate you're just hating haha heal the hate in your heart brother 💚😊
Need him in the cup car,its closer to the V8 car's than the XFINITY car's are
Then you'll see him peddle the heck out of it
As a kiwi I might say if you guys treat Shane right and when it clicks for him you could have a Dale Snr or a Richard Petty on your hands
These drivers are NOT rookies, just because they are new in the US.
He's the GOAT!
He will get 4 wins
He will get his job done with other problems, not his problems he's there to drive Nascar ❤ man with a 🖤 heart of silver ferns 🥈🥈
can we get more drivers from australia
Bring nascar to Bathurst
Go hard "SVG", to you yanks this is how we race in our part of the world.
Yes no it does not expand the NASCAR imprint. A lotvof people in Oceania like the Drivers
Get it right his a NewZealander not Australia
And to think it wasn't that long ago they couldn't even pronounce his name.
No it will be turned into housing. Much more important in Australia
That cheering statement is not true at all. But he is untitled to his one sided opinion.
Put him on the oval he’s a tier 3 driver you guys need to stop
Ok ✋️
He's already been on ovals and hasn't set the world on fire there.
So having only 2 turns on the track gives others a chance 😂
He’s very adaptable and proven himself in many categories etc. but yes, ovals are very different and provide a huge challenge. He is capable of adapting, it will be interesting to see how far he can get and adapt. That’s part of the excitement. I’m so curious to see his progress with ovals over the next few seasons
Well no shit. He's a rookie and this is his first season driving the ovals lmao some of you people be so delusional with your hate it's like you expect him to jump into a completely different style of racing he's never done in his life and just instantly dominate 😂🤦
He is old
He is fast. However surely given your wonderfully insightful commentary, there is more to to tell….so please expand.
Cool how y'all called it the thunder from downunder. The only oval track, downunder, that needs a massive rebuild, is the 'thunderdome' at calder Park, Melbourne. Nascar and the supercars should really look at a joint project and revamp the first nascar track raced outside of the usa.👍 There's heaps of Aussies n kiwi's who are new or renewed fans of nascar.. especially now that there's more road courses.
Straya!!
