Awesome trip. I've been through here twice. The first time November 2018, on Celebrity Reflection, our ship did not go through the lock. We had to take a excursion through the old lock. Second trip March 2020 on the Caribbean Princess and we sailed through the new locks.
Panama is the only set of locks still using trains to guide the ships. Welcome to the modern age. .. Also the water saving chambers have been used in Germany for over 100 years.
I would like to see the channel increased in depth by about 20 meters, then they could lower the water level on the lake, and perhaps avoid needing to use three lock chambers. They might be able to just use the two lock chambers, and get the job done. This would save a lot of water with each ship going in or out of the locks. With modern barges, it is possible to make the canal much deeper, it is only a matter of how many cubic meters of materials that need to be removed, then find the contractors to do the work. The Suez canal was made 24 meters deep in only 1 year, removing 500,000,000 cubic meters of dirt! That is about double the amount of dirt removed during the construction of the Panama Canal! However they can not make it a sea level canal, without any locks, because the current between the two ocean ports could be huge during certain parts of the moon phase, and the tides are different on the Pacific and Atlantic sides. They can not make it a sea level canal, but could bring the depth to a few meters below sea level, and make it a one lock entrance and exit! Only raise the ships by say 24 feet, instead of the current 85 feet. Still keep all the lakes fresh water too. And use much less water with each crossing.
Umm... Did she say @ 00:49 it's the only place in the world where you can see the sin rise over the Pacific and set over the Atlantic? Because that's backwards.

Hello mr candy
The longevity of the new locks will be interesting. I think they will also regret relying on tugboats. I guess time will tell.
Nice video!

the canal authority did a super job here. If I were there, I would buy a Panama flag!
What a miracle ! Wonderful. Salute to the founder.

These are not "pumping stations". The lock chambers are emptied/filled by gravity only.

This lock system must be dispensed with. Sea level canal should be laid
