We, of course, have seen just how big a difference Buffy makes because we've seen "The Wish". No one, including Buffy, know this. They can, at best, guess.
I love this episode! Having grown up in the 80s, this rings a lot of bells -- not just the Satanic Panic, but also Tipper Gore and the crusade against explicit lyrics in music. And at the same time over in the UK there was the "video nasty" movement.

My guess is the demon has some kind of hypnotic ability that works on susceptible minds, otherwise seeing dead kids wouldn't consistently work.
@@ernesthakey3396 Yeah I think it works on parents mainly, because they know what it's like to fear losing their kids. It uses the distress from seeing those dead kids to hook into them I guess. Giles wasn't affected like the other parents.

My worst episode of S3. Still not bad though lol.
In this episode, you see again how Giles is more of a parent to those kids than their actual parents. He's the first adult they reach out to when they need help. Willow's mom provides for her financially, but is neglecting her in other ways. He's always been my favorite character.
That moment, "willows more of a good witch", cut to Willow.... Gold.
