Shorbagy's argument lol: I only stuck my leg out because my opponent hit a bad shot.
L for Elshorbagy whole playstyle this match, L for referee.
It was huge disaster from referee decisions. I want also to mention that iam Elshorbagy fan, but this match was final for me.
Agreed
1:32:58 "I just feel like that tightness of Coll's balls [...] has absolutely vanished."
Great catch lol
out of context that’s hilarious
crack up
My favourite was Jon Power’s instructional vid where he talked about “imposing your length on the other guy”
I don't understand what everyone means by the commentators being biased. Throughout the entire match they would point out areas both players needed to focus on in order to get the advantage. Whichever player is losing the game is typically the one that receives more analysis from the commentators, so when Coll was starting to fall apart at the end of the 4th, they obviously focused on him and what he was missing. When Shorbagy lost that incredible third, they were analyzing what he would need to do to stay in the 4th. Also the ref was a lot better than most other matches, and explained all the decisions well.
Awful behaviour from Shorbagy. He played the ref well, had him on his side all the way through.
This was the very first match I have ever watched.. is it normal for them to be stuck in the left corner like that?
@@treeoflibertydefense8612 Yes it is. Its called a long line rally. They try to make the opponnent hit an error. balls in the back of the court are very hard to play good.
@@rinnsbebelindegrombe thanks for the info friend god bless
ElShorbagy should've met with many strokes against him for his apalling movements stepping into his opponent's line after a shot he deems to be a point. One of his worst performances this year in that regard. Other than that: great match!
Agreed, and it is disgusting how he started doing as early as at 14:21 - after he hit the foredhand, he moved forward to cut Paul off. Very subtle, but absolutely disgusting.
agreed. look at 40:48. fishing ! we all sea where was the ball is
ridiculous you’ve to move back to give your opponent space to play his shot. The thing is that you can’t move sideways
@@datube2686Totally disagree. Ref called that correct. He has the right to choose a forehand and turn his body to do it. Until he connects with the ball, the choice is his. And if that movement traps Coll, it's the correct choice as Coll hit the ball too centrally and trapped himself.
Thanks for this PSA!
Someone give me the link for the article Elshorbagy is talking about.
This is the kind of quality we should have in every video. I would pay for this.
You can pay for it on the psa website
@@BeakFoundry the psa website is not good. I would pay if it was on youtube. By that I mean youtube membership by psa. Easy money.
Coll needs to mix up his shots a little more, soften his drops and learn when to ask for reviews and he would win matches like this methinks.
Thank you SquashTV! 🙏
A 20 min 11-4 game is ridiculous, extraordinary match
Amazing match- always enjoyed watching the brutality of Elshorbagy, but really wish Coll would learn to attack and review more. Grinding people down is great, but you've got to have more in your armoury than long rallies
Agree. I was surprised how well Coll's fairly limited strategy worked in the first three games, but after Elshorbagy took control early in the fourth, I expected him to improvise. But he really didn't. Even in the fifth, if he ever got the T he just went back to the same shots that stopped working in the fourth. Kind of a surprising failure of imagination for such a great player.
Elshorbagy is learning from Asal that is for sure...this is a shame from everyone on this level... or even at all in the sport.
this makes me very sad.
Thanks psa!!!
I think this might be the best YT clip of squash out there.
Anyone else want to challenge that by sharing a better link? This is epic!
Agree with Lester with his comment. Saw Paul in the British Open stepping into the ball taking it early on the volley, reminded me of Hunt in his younger days. All credit to Mohamed, he's playing just great in the last 8 months, a return to his halcyon times.
14:30 Clearly a let. Can’t believe the ref didn’t see the forward movement to cut off Coll’s path to the ball. I’m not a fan of the presumption of “shut out” and “taking space”, whereas blocking is concerned. If you play a great shot-give your opponent the opportunity to retrieve it. Let that be the barometer of a good shot-not the quality of the block.
Coll trapped himself on the wrong side of his opponent by playing a shot down the middle of the court. I agree with the refs decision
that 3rd game, very good mr Coll!
Umpire sounds like John Malkovich, lol What a match, WOOOO!!
The camera work during the warm up is very good, would be cool to get some of those close up frontal camera angles in the actual match itself
great!
incredible men making an incredible match. absolutely gorgeous!!!! superb sportsmen!!!!!!!
I think Paul is a true sportsman. Kept smiling through thick and thin. The roar from coll was just a release of anger but he didn't do it in elshor's face. Els however directly aimed at Paul which is appalling, kind of ruins the spirit of the game. Els brothers have never my favorite players as has asal been. Sorry from that Egyptians are a treasure for the sport of squash
What a game!!!!
In the 2nd point of the 5th game Paul Coll did a dive you would only see in football.
Coll playing against more than just one man in this. Disgraceful.
Those two commentators can be so hilarious! Haha! (The end of game 3.)
Shorbagy always stands like he just birthed a baby, what is going on?
Paul is very committed to his game and the sport.
Good game
1:33:00 What's that now?
Marvellous match.- excellent coverage, intelligent comments and expert analysis of match.
At this stage in history, the Egyptians are the most skilled and the fittest. The stats speak for itself.
Alguien que ma de él artículo del.cuañ hace referencias Elshorbagy
Paul Coll wins trophy for the ''best-looking squash player'' in the world!
Great match, but a shame that the difference came down to bush league tactics and one-sided refereeing. if psa isn't going to do anything about this, Coll will take it as a message to get a little dirtier. it happens in all sports. the MLB let pitchers use illegal substances for grip until the guys playing it fair decided it was too big a disadvantage not to use it. what happened in this match wasn't superior gamesmanship... it was garbage

Listen, Paul, squash.
Great sea urchin ceviche😂
Any explanation as for why Shorbagy is allowed to take a drink when he breaks a string?
The rules do not specifically address this. Rule 7.3 just allows the change of equipment as fast as possible up a max of 90 sec. No mention of any other prohibitions during this interval.
Maybe because he knows if he were to play fair he would lose.
@@alancourtney476 It seems strange a freedom would be allowed in this case as long as it's not prohibited, if he's allowed off-court for one reason you don't need to list all the other reasons he can't add on (like getting a massage, coaching, etc.)
@@alancourtney476 It's not as fast as possible if he stops to drink water though
ElShorbagy is clear much better than Coll at playing to the referees. Even the commentators, "You just know that if there is a loose ball ElShorbagy will be better at manipulating it into a Stroke situation." 4th game a great example of the style of squash that the Egyptians are promoting. Commentators: streetwise = unsportsmanlike? I m normally a fan of the manner in which ElShorbagy carries himself on court. But perhaps ElShorbagy decided he could not beat Paul Coll fair and square.
I would agree with this except that Elshorbagy isn't based in egypt anymore. He moved to Bristol and his coach is Gaultier
totally agree...
@@duboisstewart8265 Yes, that is certainly the case (good point). You can't deny there was clearly home court advantage for the *English* player.
The 2 over rules in the 4th game were pure theft against Coll what a legend that he took it so well
yes I would say streetwise was unsportsmanlike here. I have seen many matches with this kind of agression. I have also played matches myself being pschologically agressive. I regreted doing it afterwards. But it worked. Sometimes players do what they get by with. Even though it is not fair. But watching the match from the sofa, it was not fair at a few points in the match. I remember twice that ElShorbagy roared when the rally was not yet over yet.Not streewise but unfair and against the rules I would say. Though a great match amazing to watch still.
So Long Ralley... they are monster
quick question from a beginner, why aren't plays off the side wall (8:41) more common?
Because if you don't get it perfect the ball will sit up in the front of the court and you hand the opponent a loose ball and opportunity to kill the point.
Oh, boasts? Yeah, the ball has to travel for longer and they are slower than drives or simple straight drops. But boasts can be very useful as a defensive tool for when you’re otherwise unable to get the ball back. They can also be nice from mid court when you’re in an attacking position, if you put a bit of a hold in your swing. That is called a ‘working boast’. It is actually nice for when you’re in front of your opponent, which can be especially deceptive if you put of a bit of a hold in your swing. That hold can put the option of the straight into your opponent’s mind, and if a boast comes out it can catch them off guard, often winning the point or putting them in an uncomfortable position
Can always count on Egypt for a terrible crowd. No clue what they’re watching. Great match though
the voice crack at 1:17:19 😂
Am an aussie but go kiwi comon paul
The Beast is Back 😊
정말 재미있다... 대단한 체력..
Congrats to Mo! He won and his heart rate didn't even exceed 165...just shows that he doesn't even have to try that hard. Pure class!
Your losing trust from your fans Mohamed. Get your sprawling body out of the way... soo obvious
Elshabagy is bullying the referes on many of those Let points . It's got to stop
Fantastic match. Great mental strength by Shorbagy.
Appalling referring though, this referee would inspire very little confidence in me as a player if he was officiating my match.
Which calls specifically?
@@watching99134 I haven't been noting them down throughout the match but I can contribute eg. 1:48:16 -- an obvious stroke for Call being called a let. There are many situations where Coll is given a let or no let while Shorbagy is handed out strokes all the time.
@@michazawadzki3813Never a stroke. Coll jumping into his back almost as soon as he hit the ball..How could he possibly get out of the way?
ngl but coll's racket looks siiick!!
The damn guy was asking for let on the last point even when his face was on the other side
Squash toughest game in the world
"my bum is on fire"
coll is by far the better, cleaner player. Elshorbagy is just dirty to make up for his lack of skill. Just imagine if coll hit Elshorbagy...players like this don't bring new players to the sport. Shame
Ref is consistently harsh giving the no lets. I would prefer he bias the incoming striker more. Most players are faster and more agile than most referees. There is nothing wrong with giving yes lets for clear interference. It’s safer for players, encourages players to clear their shots better, and it’s more fair. Post game, and perhaps internally, the PSA should critique iffy decisions.
I never liked the elshorbagy brothers they are cunning and do not possess sportsmanship but after this match I I've come to hate him and his tactics. And this match makes me have more and more respect for Paul for displaying a gentlemanly behavior full of sportsmanship
too many ads
ElShorbagy's has lost a fan.
Was once my favorite but after watching his excessive movement he is just too desperate, bad sportsmanship.
1:06:16 (timestamp for myself)
ElShorbagy lost the third game he deserved it ! This is the first time I thought that way ! Coll just encourage himself after he made a great drop shot, Shorbagy was overreacted.
Great match. Poor sportsmanship from ElShorbagy which is never nice to see. Doesn't matter how much court awareness and craft you have, no need to play in the manner that he did. Props to Coll.
Ugly gamesmanship from Elshorbagy
Referee was on side of Coll, many point.. As game go on, he simply do not protest, he saw, it was meaningless, I understand Elshoubagy, that he was upset... That commentators was on side of Coll, is meaningless 😉
Score 6 : 5 stroke in the second game that really a perfect showcase of so called WSF referee level nowadays, speechless 😮
On sportsmanship out of 10. Coll, 10 : ElShorbagi, 6
@PSA we look forward to the day online squash games will be viewed without ANY commentators (biased) views.
Good referring!
Coll is too passive.. still
Is the trophy suppose to be a fried egg?
disgusting game, very disappointing from the ref
Cole deserved to lose this match. There where definitely strokes & let's in favour of Cole but he didn't ask for the reviews, only asking when it was against him.
Coll got alot points stolen from him by this bag guy
34 minutes in, I really think that ElShorbagy isnt the kind of guy playing fair play. He gets on my nerves ! Coll is staying so d. calm
omg it's so weird, that they have to talk right after the match, and ask very weird questions.. let the players rest after a match ffs... u would never see anything like in this way in bigger sports.... they should stop doing that.... I think paul coll was better in this match :)
_The commentators are clearly on side of Coll. That’s bad taste._
Their commentary was quite objective
It was in the context of Paul being w 1 and not messing his opponent do some work
@@ghawatzhusten3368 _See, we have different opinions._

I respect Coll as a player, but with his gameplan he's just utterly boring to watch
My word.. Egyptian bias is unreal
Tribalism
I think you mean - it is very real...
Guys do you know people don’t use calories.
What a terrible sportsman Elshorbagy is.
Does Lee Drew actually enjoy squash? He always seems so incredibly bored and uninterested in doing any commentary.
The reality is Coll played dirty, hitting the ball to drop near him and pausing to stroke Muhamed many times. And intentionally throwing himself over Muhamed when he realised he couldn't get the ball. Muhamed was the much better player and deserved this great win. The comments here and the commentary? Racist bigotry.
This sport would be a good sports if opponents didn't stay on the same side of the court.
Appallingly commentary by the Paul Coll fn club
So biased, they were more of fans as you said!
Commentators should get a salary from Cole
Anyone know how far Asal went in this tournament?
He was in the 2nd semifinal and lost to farag
@@ahmedelkanadily3240 Thanks.
All sports are existing for the purpose of entertaining, Paul's style of playing is boring! To a certain limit; Elshorbagy as well!
Disgusting game from ElShorbagy
The worst of this match is the ridiculous and biased comments from the commentators, I am not a fan of both players :) , but that's pathetic; when Elshorbagy roar on Coll's face that was a reaction for Coll roaring first on Elshorbagy's face.
Except that Coll did *not* roar in Elshorbagy's face.
1:08:36
Really looks like he's just yelling at the ball. He's looking at the shot he just played, Elshorbagy just happened to be in the same area. And he also wasn't right up in Elshorbagy's face the way the latter was when he yelled directly at Coll. There was definitely a big difference between their exclamations.
@@nedal2377 😂😂. Maybe you need to visit Specsavers.
Was for Coll in the beginning, but changed my view in the end. ElShorbagy was a better player that day.
And commentators were so biased.
3rd class commentary
Totally biased in favor of Cole
God this comment section makes me lose hope for the squash community. Shorbagy won the match, that’s the bottom line. He outplayed Coll, dominated the majority of the rallies and outsmarted him. Coll was mentally dejected by the end of the match. If Coll wants to be able to these kind of matches he needs a bit more of a doggy nature. I loved the drama and genius manipulation of shorbagy, it was genuinely a masterclass. When Peter barker did this kind of thing it was considered a positive trait (obviously because he’s English).
"Genius manipulation" (of the ref) should not be part of the game. If a player is able to influence the ref to make a bad call, then the result of a rally is no longer due to the actual quality of play. In some cases, *poor* playing will directly result in a point or favorable let. Is that really what you want to watch? I don't.
Now, that being said, Elshorbagy played better overall and earned the win. But he should have done so more fairly. The win would have been more admirable in that case.
@@johnrogstad1278 I disagree and find that exploiting every last % that he can as more admirable. Shows a level of resourcefulness that a lot of other players lack.
@@JK-jr1gs Cheating is easy. It is cynical and foolish to believe that only smart players know how to do it. Many of us learn how to cheat early on. We decide not to because this violates our entire conception of what this game is supposed to be about.
Improvising within strict limitations is the entire point of the drama of sport. Intentionally violating the limitations is not only dishonest, it is a misunderstanding of the overall social utility (and beauty) of what sport even is.
Can't believe how racially one-sided the comments are here ignoring the few unfair no-lets for El-Shorbagy and claiming ref was tough on Coll. It's subjective because I paused the game on those shots to capture the distance between striker and ball and I felt the ref was biased for Coll, rather than El-Shorbagy.
The reality is Coll played dirty, hitting the ball to drop near him and pausing to stroke Muhamed many times. And intentionally throwing himself over Muhamed when he realised he couldn't get the ball. Muhamed was the much better player and deserved this great win. The comments here and the commentary? Racist bigotry.
why do australians and kiwis have to be treated special ,
Sheldon has improved a bit but he is not up to the unsportsmanlike gamesmanship of El Shorbagy. Over and over Mohammed pretends to "make himself thin" but he is actually backing into Coll's line. There can never be spectacular retrieving- the joy of squash- in a match like this because whenever Coll is a little out of position El Shorbagy blocks him out.
Ugly way to decide a World semifinal.
