    Sadly, When the Cher Show was on Broadway, tickets cost more to see 3 female actresses portray Cher than it would cost to have seen Cher LIVE and IN PERSON in Vegas or some other concert venue.

      Then you must have bought scalper tickets. It was standard Broadway prices

      @@haroldkloran4323 Standard Broadway prices are considerably MORE EXPENSIVE than purchasing a ticket to see Cher in concert. I don't see the sense in purchasing tickets to see 3 women who are pretending to be Cher rather than going to see the real person.

      lol no they were not. I saw the show 17 times and saw Cher herself in concert twice, I paid more to see Cher and that was in crappier seats. Plus there were lottery tickets for $40 and it wasn’t that difficult to win.

    Totally agree about Dark Lady, which was for me a true highlight on Broadway. What you miss on the recording, of course, is the smashing choreography of the number; while the two husbands are singing, a "dance Cher" is burning up the stage with her chorus boys. I adored Stephanie J. Block in the show, and she deserved her Tony no question, but oh how I wish it had been Dark Lady showcased on the Awards. It was the most impressive production number in the show.

    This seems like a completely different version of the Broadway version. I saw the Broadway version 3 times and what you described was totally different. The sets were much more intricate, the finale number on Broadway was the same as the Tony performance. The Bob Mackie costumes are a must they are their own character in the show. Did the “babe Cher” sing “Beat goes on” with the montages of her career in the movies?

    • @keelanbourne3440
      @keelanbourne3440 2 роки тому

      The beat goes on is in it but if I remember correctly adapted. It's shorter and done in two Half's. Debbie (star) starts it before passing it onto Millie (babe) they then stop and come back to it and babe finish's it.

    As someone that saw the show on Broadway, what was the dance for "Dark Lady" like? On Broadway it was the single most impressive dance sequence I have seen in a long LONG time by a single performer. It was a surprise highlight in a show about Cher that had nothing to do with any of the three performers that played Cher.

    • @keelanbourne3440
      @keelanbourne3440 2 роки тому

      It's adapted and instead of being a dance. It's done as segment on the sonny and Cher show

    I'm seeing it tomorrow and i am still baffled as to how you can do The Cher Show without any Bob Mackie costumes. You cannot have one without the other. Though i am interested to see how close they can get to the original design, without having to pay copyright. Cost cutting would be my first guess, but maybe Mackie wouldnt let them, who knows. I really dislike a forced up on your feet ending too. Its an unearned standing. ovation, and people leave thinking it was great night out, when ut might not have been

    No, they didn’t cut up the finale in the show. And it wasn’t lip synced, all live and the cast killed it every time. They’d get the whole audience to stand up and dance, it was so much fun. I sat like five rows behind Cher herself at the show once and she got up to sing with them after the show! Another time I sat right behind Bob and got to speak to him, he was a sweetheart. I’m really bummed his costumes weren’t used since he’s such an important part of Cher’s career. Seems like they changed a lot and not for the better. How sad.

    Part of me thinks the reason why the Cher show did not use the bob Mackie costumes, is maybe they where not available. The ogunquit playhouse did the show with the bob Mackie costume, and the run ended in June. So depending on when the tour launched the costumes might have not been available.

    I saw it on tour in Birmingham and was unimpressed, it wasn't what I thought it would be. Others in the audience seemed to love it though and was on their feet at the end and making so much noise that the dress circle was shaking and I was a little worried it was going to collapse. Never mind I know not to bother seeing it again.

    Honestly, I think the finale megamix is one of the lowest points in the show which is bizarre cos the Broadway version is so polished and has the gravitas you'd come to expect from a Cher-style finale (not to mention, the BW megamix is a sequence of all her concert performances, so each song has its own dance/costume reference.)
    Here, it's lip-synced, the songs are awkwardly spliced together and the ensemble sing Dov'e l'Amore un-mic'd which leaves it all feeling rather flat. It's a shame cos I KNOW the three women are powerhouses and could totally nail a live performance. We see that IN the show. I shouldn't be coming away with my gay heart deflated after a mash-up like that but I was.

    I don't really understand the rationale of this sort of show touring the provinces rather than hitting London.
    I would have thought that London with its large gay population would have been more likely to support this show. It kind of seems that they were not willing to invest in this and went the Bill Kenwright route of cheap is best, just throw a Nolan Sister on, some people used to like them sort of production.
    Part of me wonders what it would have looked like with a less traditionally gendered cast and leaned into a more irrenverent sort of show.

  • @Vertigotheatre1

    So you were disappointed, the songs had no buttons and were badly arranged to the point it was lifeless. You preferred the Broadway arrangements over this, too many reprises, makes the songs feel inconsequential, the finale is a let down (also lip synced by the way), the direction is inconsistent, the locating through set and design didn't work and you found it ugly. (Breathes) it's not very fun, you almost didn't get a Cher fix from a show about Cher, the visuals don't work, the outfits don't work all the time, the book is inconsistent with characters.....yet you liked the cast and choreography....FOUR STARS? Come on, thats ridiculous

  • @rossl6114

    Saw both the Cher Show and the Osmond musical, much preferred the latter, so much more energy and audience participation. The biggest disappointment was Millie's awful accent, it sounded like something from Spitting Image! Not good.

    This was NOT a fan favourite. Most people who ate Cher fans did not like it. The only good thing about the show on Broadway was Block as Cher. This is a very very very cheap production of a very poor show. I'm shocked anybody could give this 4 stars.
