You forgot to mention an important detail: Those elemental effects that, when used on their own, just "tickle" enemies? They now all synergise. In Dead Cells the only real synergy was between oil and fire. In this game resin (which is basically just DC's oil) not only can be set ablaze, it also turns into toxic sludge when paired with poison, and combining gas clouds with fire causes violent explosions that take out most basic enemies in a single hit. Having the right build can easily turn you into a killing machine that drops entire groups in a matter of seconds. In order to execute those chain reactions in the first place, you still need to play with some degree of skill though.
How does the combat focus on repositioning, hazards and elemental synergy fare against bosses? Cuz the first 2 don't seem to matter much in bosses, based off the boss footage I've seen. Maybe it's one of those things that will change in the months to come.
I'm so sick of these huge, massive games that feel that then need to engage me for 100+ hours with bloat, mindless side quests, and collectibles. I also would much rather have a great 10-20 hour experience. Indie games are the only reason I still play games these days anymore.
@@mohammadashikurrahman7530 Even if they make better games than other AAA companies (which they don't. they just owned the ip to prince of Persia and let a different developer make their own game), my objection is that I can't own any ubisoft game on pc. If a server shuts down and you can't play the game, you still own the game and if someone is dedicated enough you can play on a private server. But no, ubi had to go they extra mile and revoke people's license and ability to download a game they spent 60 dollars on. I know you technically don't own games from other digital storefronts, but they at least will let you download the game decades after release and have the license. But ubi can straight up steal your game and I will never hand over my money to a proven thief.

I wasn't expecting Ubisoft to suddenly go all in on Prince of Persia, but I'm all for it. It's one of their better IPs to go back to for the sake of a more diverse lineup when it comes to gameplay too. Platforming has only been simplified in most big games and I'd love to see a new 3D POP that figured out a good modernized version of the Sands of Time games movement systems, I won't argue they weren't clunky but they were still something special. On another note I think these smaller releases are something big IPs like Marvel and DC with many smaller franchises that tend to be released individually should try. I wouldn't need to be convinced to get a AAA Legion of Superheroes, Aquaman, or Green Lantern game but I understand most people aren't sold on those characters. Maybe a half priced Aquaman Metroidvania or GLC tactics game would help the big project later on, or at least give those relatively smaller characters a spotlight while resources go into something like Batman and Wonder Woman. That definitely would've been the better way to handle Suicide Squad and maybe it would've even saved the Guardians and Midnight suns games although poor marking and association with the Avengers game were probably the main issues.
The Sands of Time trilogy wasn't clunky and still isn't compared to modern games. It was always very fluid and quite responsive, far more responsive than many games since.
It looks like the emphasis on platforming is the greatest thing to set this apart from Dead Cells which was by no means about platforming or traversal.
The music in games like this and Hades and a lot of other roguelikes are perfect for focusing on a task, whether it is work or running or w/e. They are designed to get you in flow and also slap hard. Cant wait for this OST to go live!

I’m an old 34 year old and I have played a lot of games and I still maintain to this day that splinter cell Pandora tomorrow and chaos theory spies vs mercs was the best multiplayer games I have ever played.

Here's the rub about that outro Ralph: Ubisoft USED to do this and they stopped for seemingly no reason to focus only on AC and Tom Clancy games. Remember a little over a decade ago we were getting all-time bangers like Rayman Legends, Valiant Hearts and Child of Light in between those big AAA swings. I hope this isn't an outlier and Ubisoft goes back to this style but I struggle to see it happen since most of the people that powered that era like Michel Ansel are gone.
This kind of game is wonderful for the industry, which often believes that bigger and more bloated games and hardware are the way to go, focusing on presentation instead of gameplay. Many games now take more than five years to develop, release with over 100GB in size, and require high-end (and expensive) CPUs and GPUs. In contrast, a very good artistic and creative game that focuses on the art direction and gameplay, has a download size of less than 5GB, and requires lower-end hardware with a smaller budget is the way to go.
Really happy for 2D platformer/metroidvania fans - looking like two bangers in a row for this franchise. Not my cuppa, but that's ok; not every game has to be for me.

It's crazy good. - story will be improved during early access, but it will be later in the development - Medallions system probably will change a bit. For sure new medallions are on the way. Same for weapons/tools ... And a lot more! Discord is the best way to interact directly with devs and often you can see your suggestions in the next releases. Wholeheartedly agree that more large companies need to focus on smaller, low budget, high quality titles to release alongside their big budget 'flagship' games. Which makes it incredibly confusing why MS would shut down a studio like Tango Gameworks after creating a game like Hi-Fi Rush. Really surprising that of all companies to click and get this right that it would be Ubi, congrats to them on that, look forward to seeing more of this in the future
As a huge fan of the 3D PoP games, in a world with AC I'm totally fine with PoP returning to 2D. Very excited for this new entry! Now, hopefully, we'll get a remasters of the original games on Steam
I'm not really following why people keep saying dead cells is more like than lite. You go from 1 potion charge to 10. That alone is HUGE. The items you pick up go from tier 1 to default tier IV. It's maybe not quite Hades, but it's still a lot?

I was always under the impression like a rogue-like was a grid based, permadeath game a la the original Rogue whilst rogue-lite was literally anything else. Either way looking forward to this and especially the bosses as Evil Empire showed up Motion Twin's original poorly designed base game Dead Cells bosses quite handily.
I feel like the Ubisoft forward at Summer Game Fest is going to be a biggie. We'll get to see what they've been cooking for Splinter Cell all this time, AC Shadows is going to get gameplay and surely we'll finally see the PoP SoT remake and fingers crossed Beyond Good and Evil 2.
Ubisoft backed off from PoP back then because they have to pay royalties to Jordan Mechner, the first AC was intended to be a PoP but they retooled it into an IP that they wholly owned
It's really baffling to me that publishers are essentially loosing money because of their strategy to pump more and more money into fewer and fewer projects and now they all seem to be doubling down on that strategy that lost them the money in the first place... that's just insane, isn't it?
You covered a lot of stuff I wanted to say in the outro. I think this is what a lot of AAA publishers with floundering IP should do. Go back to the series roots and work out what made it great in the first place. Prince of Persia is back in 2D and moving in new directions
I think this game releasing on Stean is pretty big. If they didn't it probably wouldn't sell that well. How can a game be so small in size? I feel like all the textures would be more than 1GB, right? Unless they're all vector based maybe?

I can't wait for this game to release.
I really don't know about this one. I'm a HUGE PoP fan, and this looks cool, but I'm yet to play a rouge-anything I've actually enjoyed. If I ever end up getting GamePass I might have to try it on that, or wait till it's very cheap

I loved loved loved The Lost Crown, and I'm happy Prince of Persia is truly back. But man I'm tired of Roguelikes. Which is unfortunate cause the movement does look cool.
they f up by making a prince of persia where you didn't play as the prince beforehand, and it makes their decision with asscreed shadows funnier because of that

A prince of persia game that's not about the prince of persia, where you don't play as the Prince or in persia and, sadly, has nothing to do with the trilogy that pretty much everyone comes to think of when you say Prince of Persia.
