Gabby is probably the most animated movie reaction person I’ve ever seen she gets so caught up into it. If I wants to watch movies with Gabby I would first have to go and watch the movie myself so I know what to movies about because if I was to sit in the same room with Gabby I would be just watching her for her reactions makes me laugh so much.
When they showed Ripley's daughter, you commented that the daughter looked just like Ripley... not sure if anyone else mentioned it, but, that was actually a picture of Sigourney Weaver's mother... so... kinda no surprise it looked like her :D Hehe

Yeah, her nail color is too close in color to the background. When she keyed in the film in post for the composite, it also overlayed her nails. 💅
Lance Hendrickson (Bishop) *was* originally cast as the robut in Terminator. That obviously didn't happen, but dir Cameron promised him another role in the future - and then later told him "you can play my other robot in Aliens."
If anyone cares - look up the story of how Hendrickson auditioned to be the Terminator. It's *awesome* !!!
they even made some poster art for Terminator of Lance in Terminator costume, leather jacket, sunglasses, etc.

IF you want to see something interesting, Katherine Bigelow made a movie called 'Near Dark' about a year after this was made, and it has the actors playing Vasquez, Hudson, and Bishop in it. Also, it might be the best Vampire movies ever made, it's like The Lost Boys, but for grown ups.
Katherine Bigelow, an amazing director, was married to James Cameron who directed Aliens, and that's how she knew the cast. I just think there's something fascinating about watching all 3 actors, around the same time period, playing vastly different characters in two movies, thought you might too.
She also directed the Oscar-winning war drama “The Hurt Locker”, starting Jeremy Renner & Anthony Mackie.
The way you repeat lines and do impressions of the characters is my favourite thing about your reactions. It's so funny. :D

The original release didn't have any of the colonists's story. They jumped right to the scene where Ripley is told that contact was lost with them.
I think it's more effective that way. When there's more mystery of what's really going on. Don't think many of the added scenes are that necessary, even the sentry gun stuff while cool is a bit of filler, it doesn't progress the plot at all (that's why Cameron left it out)
BTW you've seen Pt. Vasquez before ( short haired woman heavy machine gunner ) if you don't remember think back T2 and John Conner's foster mother. Yep that's the same woman Jenette Goldstien.
The Xenomorphs were backing off because of the mother-to-mother understanding the Queen had with Ripley.

8:25 Lieutenants get their position by going to officer school. All they know is theory. That's why they call them Cherry Lieutenants. The old sergeants are the ones who know what's up. They have to train the LTs.
Hence, when Apone got taken, the LT began to loose it!!!

One thing that’s accurate about this is that in the military you don’t become an officer because of experience. Often the newer officers are remarkably inexperienced compared to the enlisted personnel.
1:59 PLUS the company sent the order to GET the creatures found on that planet, resulting in the deaths of the crew (all of which died in pain and horror), and the ship blowing up.
It's the Jeff Bizeos mentality.
It was likely only a few people in the company were originally involved, and when the Nostromo never returned, they went to new projects and retired, so the company forgot all about it except maybe in some dusty old boxes in a subbasement. Berk was at the inquiry so he got a bright idea to make a quick buck. So he directed the colony to send Newt's family to where Ripley said the derelict was. Then at the colony with only fruit of his effort being a couple of facehuggers in bottles, so he tried to return the aliens to Earth inside Newt and Ripley.
@@beannathrach2417 I think the company knew. Burke, if anything, would be the fall guy, if the conspiracy came to light. EVERY set of evil doers have a sap they would sacrifice, in case anything goes wrong. Dr. Fax in Robocop 2 is a prime example. G. Gorden Liddy was a live example.
Trivia: The colony sets were reused for Axis Chemicals in the 1989 Batman movie.

You asked the question how is he a lieutenant? when he has so little experience. when you join the army you start off as a regular soldier or a commissioned officer. As a regular soldier you work from the very bottom and work your way up starting off with private corporal sergeant staff sergeant and so on. If you qualify and your education is sufficient you can skip many of the stages and start off as a lieutenant. And then you carry on going over through the officer ranks. In actuality military experience there’s not much difference between a private and a lieutenant for the most part. The lieutenant is still a higher rank than a private. But in most cases their real world experience is pretty much limited.
These marines feel more like army, imo.

24:47 People have sometimes theorised that their eyes are under the smooth plating at the tops of their heads, which have been visually represented in ultra creepy pics of xenomorph skulls, sometimes!!! It's also thought that xenomorphs seek out their prey by scent rather than sight!!!!!!! In the Aliens Vs. Predator 2 video game for example, when you play as the xenomorph, you see humans, predators and xenomorphs with different coloured auras surrounding their bodies, indicating xenomorphs can identify different species by their scents!!!!!
On a lot of people's greatest films of all time lists. top 5 for me.

Trivia. The sergeant was ex-military. The armored personnel carrier is actually 747 tow tug, which was involved in at least two potential safety incidents in the making of the movie. lol . Keep up the good work.

Scenes NOT in the theatrical version: All mention of Ripley's daughter, the committee revoking her flight status (and a few other little bits), all scenes of the colony before the main characters reach it, the fake-out with the mice, the discussion about the aliens having a queen, and the automated sentry guns in the tunnel.
BTW, a group called Hacksmith Industries built a working power loader based off the one in this movie. They cheated a little by giving it treads instead of legs, but the upper part is nearly identical. It's strong enough to lift a car. There are videos of them building and testing it, here on UA-cam.
25:31 "Are you for real" - Yup. The queen is a lot more intelligent than the regular drones. The drones are animal level, but the queen is about as smart as a human. This is in the lore.
Not sure if you were already aware when recording that there was an Alien 3, and more movies after this, but the Alien Queen most definitely died at the end of the film, just as the Alien in the first film died once being blown into outer space. They may not like to breathe exactly what we do, but there is nothing for them to breathe in the vacuum of space, and there's a baseline temperature of minus 450+ degrees Fahrenheit in outer space, it would freeze and its molecules would seize to function.
I thoroughly enjoyed watching you experience this movie! You are adorable and I am so glad I found your channel! Your views on the movie are just spot on.

Loved your reaction, you were very funny, "I don't wanna sleep",..when Ripley was trying to get Newt to sleep,..you mentioned how can they, the aliens attack, eat people, without eyes, think it was in Alien Covenant, that they answered that, there was a scene where, there's a human about to be attacked, and another scene where there's this cat and mouse game with a crew, and alien, and there are a few instances where you get a first person view through alien eyes, non eyes, it looks like what echo location or radar would look like, even with sharks and dolphins having eyes you know they hunt with that, successfully, this first person view of alien sight, maybe is how it would look relying just on that echo location without actual sight, seeing colors, texture,..it was interesting and gave insight into how they hunt,..this is not the end of Ridley's story,..if you don't continue with her, there are some other really good shows to view,..for just horror, The Hidden, scfi, action,..Bad Moon,.., Silver Bullet,..American Werewolf in London,..The Howling (first one is really good),..The Thing(get ready, don't eat, before, during watching, think of it like going swimming, no eating 2 hours before going in pool), if you haven't seen them,..Gothic horror like Suspiria 1977 (the old version , love the one with Tilda Swinton, but love the old version)

Depending on how far that 'rock' is from Earth a radio transmission could take days, weeks, months or possibly even years to reach here, making an instant reaction impossible. Great movie, Sigourney Weaver killed her role.

my prejudice is that first-time reactors should see the theatrical release first, the one the public saw in the theater. extended versions or director's cuts are for fans who've already seen it 10 times and still want more. to me, the only added scene that truly added anything was the automatic cannons scene. the rest was told more concisely in the original. opinions may differ of course. keep on rockin
i agree completely... theatrical cut brings more ambiguity to what happen at the colony, adding more suspense imo... I wished they added the auto turrets to the theatrical cut, it adds to the beats of thwarting the alien threat... :0)

i agree too. there are exceptions however where the diretor`s cut(s) are better (but mostly because the theatrical cuts are kinda bad) like blade runner or dark city.
Disagree most reactors won't become huge fans and the extra scenes clarify some points and create a better picture of the characters.

Third Officer Ripley has been found and returned to Earth with a Xenomorph-size case of PTSD. What will The Suits of Weyland-Yutani make of her blowing up the "Nostromo"? 1:12 You are watching the Special Edition version, which I bought a while after seeing the theatrical version. These scenes add Pathos ad weight to Ripley's story, and answered a question I had in 1986. I see that you have bleeped out the "colorful metaphors." 3:56 And so it begins...5:52 One of a large number of quotes and a great "Burn!" line.;) 9:17 This scene confirms why Jones the Cat wasn't taken, and sets up a problem for subsequent productions. 10:33 In 1986, I wondered how Ripley was able to "get close, quickly" to a traumatized Rebecca. A reviewer of the time said "Sisterhood!" When I bought the Special Edition Laserdisc(!) it became clear how Ripley and Rebecca/Newt were connecting. 11:31 Disarming the troops in a hostile zone always bothered me. 13:23 Ripley is all about The Team. 18:50 The Manual of Arms. 23:46 The right tool(s) for the job made with Duck tape. The "Dwayne and Ripley" scene should have been in the theatrical cut.;)

Unconnected suggestion: The Prophecy (1995). Not spoiling, but Chris Walken plays the angel Gabriel and Viggo Mortensen plays The Devil. It's really *quite* good and unique as hell (I maka da joke) - and your take on it, Cal, would be fun and fascinating I bet.

I love how Ripley gives the queen that look and tilts her head before she blasts her eggs..and she even grows from the kick of the rifle. Or how Vasquez racks a round in that pistol and hands it to the android as if even the android should be packin'. James Cameron is so good. You can see how mechanically-minded James is with the movies he makes. Lots of moving parts in his films. Don't bother with part 3..but Prometheus is great.

Every lieutenant his their first mission. But the lieutenant is subordinate to a captain who can monitor and advise. That's when the movie starts getting its military wrong. The Sulaco should have had a least one reserve platoon. Also when they advanced into possibly hostile terrain, the lieutenant or sergeant should have assigned the point, someone to walk in front to trigger the enemy while everyone else still has room to maneuver. Probably flankers and rear guard to ensure nothing sneaks up on them. Platoons do walk into something bigger than they can handle and do get wiped out, but that's in spite of taking precautions rather than no precautions. Also when Gorman decided weapons fire would be dangerous, why didn't he withdraw, study maps, and try alternatives? Platoons do get wiped out, but they try not to.
And why did their plane land? Airplanes on the ground are the most vulnerable. It should have stayed aloft or gone where it couldn't be touched, like back on the Sulaco. And if called on for ground support, airplanes aren't instantly in the air at altitude. It should be near and over the platoon at all times in Death From Above mode. Again being aloft doesn't guarantee survival, but it does make it easier to survive.
Also the actor who plays Gorman also played zombiemunch in Hell Raiser 2 where the character displays a similar lack of tactical skill.
It's not clear how long aliens can survive the vacuum of space. However once she's out of contact with Sulaco she can't change her trajectory. She will continue in the same direction and speed until she runs into a star or a planet.
This movie is awesome
CAli, your jump scares were PRICELESS. You jump at everything, from Alien love kisses, to doors opening, to face-huggers going to for the jugular after a 5ft jump. They got you at every turn in, "Aliens"
