What an epic and magnificent tag. Thanks for tagging me. This is my introduction to your channel and a new subscriber. I’m pretty much the same with travel anxiety and being on time.
Thanks for stopping by! If you get a chance to do the tag I hope you have fun with it. Having lived in a Tibetan settlement in India for as long as I have, I have had to get rid of certain expectations... In general they have so little stress about things being on time, because things will just kind of happen when they're supposed to happen, and while that means many things are less than punctual everyone is much more relaxed... and I can roll with that, generally. But once I am traveling, especially when traveling alone, it all comes rushing back!
Wow! This is pretty intense and all inclusive! I will be interested to see the responses and adapted versions it inspires. At the very least, it will give book tube content creators a chance to open up & share in ways that typical tags do not allow for. My first impression was that to do all the questions would be an intensive and draining task...but being able to pick & choose allows it to be adapted in ways to best suit each person who wishes to participate. I enjoyed your responses and getting to "know" you better. My favorite statement/thought included in the prompts was with regard to True Crime genre ...."real-world suffering shouldn’t be a source of entertainment". I like that outlook. Thanks for the obvious time and effort you put into this tag!
Thanks! It was actually a lot of fun thinking of questions... hence the reason there are so many! It would definitely be overwhelming to answer all of them. But hopefully it is a diverse enough list that folks can find ten or so they want to answer. Every once in a while there is an "anything but books' kind of tag going around, and since I enjoy getting to know a little bit more about what motivates or informs the folks whose opinions and reading journeys I follow I thought it would be fun to release a new one into the wild. I know that folks are obsessed with true crime, and I get it, it is human nature to rest in a sense of safety by sensationalizing the suffering of others.... I just don't feel great when I consume it, it feels exploitative. I am not saying it always is, especially not intentionally, but that's my experience of it. That is one reason I enjoyed Richard Chizmar's _Chasing the Boogeyman_ and _Becoming the Boogeyman,_ which are entirely fictitious novels that are told as if they were true crime, with a version of himself as the main character. It is a smart way to flip true crime on its head, and exploit the emotional/sensational aspects of that subgenre without actually profiting off of real folks' suffering.
I loved learning more about you! While I know most Buddhists are at least vegetarian, I got excited hearing that you are vegan! I have been for 9 years. I loved what you shared about taking the time to appreciate the journey and effort it takes for something like a piece of fruit to arrive in our hands. This could be a video idea for you, but I would love to hear if you have any book recommendations on impermanence or becoming more at peace with death. Doesn’t matter if it’s fiction, non-fiction, Buddhist, or not. I’d be curious to hear your choices!
Thanks! I have been thinking about some videos similar to what you suggest, videos that recommend books that highlight certain themes or ideas that are important in my spiritual life. I haven't got anything specific planned yet, but the idea is floating around in my head. Thanks for adding some motivation!
Fabulous tag, Lekden! Thanks for tagging me, though given so many options across all the various prompts, I'm probably going to end up answering more than 10! But, as you say, it's the internet and there are no rules 😉 I'm absolutely with you on the travel anxiety - I'm always super early for things because of it, but I'd much rather have to wait around a bit than be stressing about not being on time! Also, yes to taking time over coffee! Less so with the brewing of it for me, but absolutely the drinking of it. I allow myself plenty of time to enjoy my morning coffee, it's my chance to start the day slowly and organise my thoughts before getting down to some work. Despite the high level of caffeine (and I like my coffee STRONG!) I find it a deeply relaxing experience, contemplative even. At the weekend, one of my favourite things is to sit with my coffee and just have some nature videos running on the TV. Though there's nothing better than a coffee drunk in the actual outdoors, in the early morning chill of a hill top - a brew with a view is a special thing indeed😀
I am glad you enjoyed it, I look forward to seeing what you come up with! Not much brew with a view here, my viewing options are a bit limited, but I do agree whole-heartedly. (The view that accompanies my morning coffee is usually needy puppies demanding attention!) Taking time for coffee is definitely a luxury I indulge in, but it is an opportunity to slow down for a bit and just prepare for the day, or rest if it is an afternoon brew.
"Which is insane. That is an insane thing to do." Hahahaha, I love that. I definitely relate to the fear of "not doing enough." It's difficult in a world where there's so much hurt. I also relate to the notification thing. I can't stand those little red bubbles. And yes, coffee time! I specifically wake up 15-30 minutes earlier to make sure I have time to enjoy my coffee instead of guzzling it down. This is such an interesting tag! Thanks for doing an "insane thing" and sharing it with the world.
Thanks! Once I got the "must add subgenres" bug in my head things did spiral, just a little. But, to be fair, it is a lot easier to come up with sixty questions than it is to answer sixty questions... Being able to grind, prepare, and enjoy my coffee calmly every morning is always worth getting up a bit earlier. I can't think of a single cup of coffee that I regretted!
You're welcome, I hope you have fun with it if you choose to do it. My family makes fun of me (gently) for my travel/airport anxiety, but I haven't missed a flight/bus/train yet, so it is working for me!
This is a fantastic tag! Very comprehensive. I'm very behind on my tags and haven't done one for awhile, so I'm not sure when I'll get to this. Thanks very much for tagging me.
Thanks! That was my goal. The folks who have done it so far have all been really engaging and a joy to get to know more about. You're more than welcome to do it, too!
Thanks! It went through a few iterations, that's for sure. I started with a general idea of personal questions related to genres, and that was pretty quick to think up... From there, the original idea was to base the questions on the last 10 books you read, and that made me realize it wouldn't work with one question per genre... and then it kind of spiralled out of control! All told, it took about a week to think of the various questions, but that's because I just left the Word document open in the background and I added to it as inspiration struck... If you have time and are inclined to make video I would love to see what you come up with!
