- Just a heads up... I just had too much fun making this video. The sass... the tea... the lame jokes. Next level.
Today’s video are just ways to make you the most interesting person at your next dinner party. For those of you who are senior Christians, then just a heads up, this video isn’t really aimed at you, but who knows, there might be something you didn’t know! After a recent conversation with a new Christian, I realized that sometimes we forget that there are quite a few Christians that may not know these things, and we forget at one point there was a time that we didn't know these things either! So just consider this your fun Christian version of Snapple facts here on the Tubes of You.
*To elaborate on one fact: Stephen Langton is credited with dividing the Bible into chapters in 1227. Verses were added in 1551 and 1555 by Robert Stephanus, a Paris printer.

11 things I wish I knew as a new Christian:
1. The Sinner’s Prayer isn’t Biblical
2. You don’t have to hear God’s audible voice
3. You don’t have to “feel God” all the time
4. Sinless Perfection is impossible and heretical
5. Not everyone speaks in tongues
6. Faith is more than just mental ascent
7. When you pray, pray in faith
8. What it means to have a relationship with Jesus
9. God’s will for my life
10. The social gospel is a false gospel
11. Works are a natural fruit of genuine salvation, not what you force out
@Calm in the Storm It does strongly encourage getting together with fellow believers. The name of the location is irrelevant but church is the most convenient place to meet.
@Calm in the Storm No where in the Bible does it tell us not to beat our heads with a hammer, but most people just know some things are bad for us, and some things are good, like thinking, for instance.
Romans 10:9
New International Version
9 If you declare(A) with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,”(B) and believe(C) in your heart that God raised him from the dead,(D) you will be saved.(E)
@@brandonjames6266 Exactly!
@Calm in the Storm
You don’t have to “go to church”, but worshiping God and interacting with other believers are things Christians do (and obedience to the summary of the law, loving God and neighbor). As part of the body, we’re all called to love and interact with the church, that is, other believers. Since our churches are modeled after the early church’s forms of gathering and worship (though we’re much less hospitable), going to church is considered obeying these two commands, plus it’s easier than tracking down Christians yourself or only choosing to spend time with those you find the easiest to love (which would be unChristlike).
I remember watching my very young children looking at their preschool storybook Bible. My one year old son pointed to the tree in the story of Adam and Eve and said, "Apple tree!" My three year old daughter responded, "No, William, that's a knowledge of good and evil tree!" 😂
Great job Melissa! People need to know this stuff!
Allen Parr! ...just happy seeing your comment here.
God bless you guys.. Great job
God bless you, Allen! Learning a lot from your content, too 😊
Allen, can I ask you a question? And Will you answer it?

Was that your question?
lol, Just joshing with ya, hope you get your reply.

I almost fell out of my chair laughing when Melissa spoke about the "gift of hospitality", because I never even realized I had that gift *as I'm preparing today to host 40 people I do NOT know tomorrow, as the resistance against the Federal Mandates*...LOL I seriously open my home to EVERYONE AND ANYONE, and have never given it a second thought...lol This is a very informative video! Thank You! God has led me into a ton of truth since my radical salvation in Oct 2016, but I was certainly ignorant to several of these. Thank You!
I laughed so hard too cos I’m d opposite, I lack that gift 🙈🙈🙈
I’d rather pay for a meal in a restaurant than cook for ppl in my house and then face d dishes afterwards. It’s easier to sit n talk with ppl than serve them 😂😂😂
@@Peace-wm7vc I agree with you...lol But over the years I've learned to prepare the food, etc the day before, and I have it all down pretty much to a science now, so I may have all the food out and ready to roll, so I may sort of relax and engage during the gathering, versus constantly running around "hosting", and I keep clean up to a minimum using paper plates, etc...lol Although, it still took me 2 hours after our meeting yesterday to clean my home and get it back to the way I like it...lol I just never realized it was a gift, but it has to be, because I've done this my entire adult life, and have never given it a second thought. I actually enjoy hosting & feeding people.
@@hismercysavessallysue5927 wow! It’s an admirable gift 🙌🏽🙌🏽
May God continue to grace you with strength n provision so you can just flow in it as you serve Him through serving His people 💐
@@Peace-wm7vc Me too- Or have people wandering through my house! Though, you are also displaying hospitality when you invite them out for a meal...but you probably have other gifts as well!

Does anyone else pray lying on their back in the dark, like they're in therapy
I do that more more often than not 😊
Sometimes I just lay on my bed with my face down and pray.
🙋
@@orangeblossom9279 how do you breathe lol
Yes and I almost always fall asleep so now I try do it only if the prayer is short
I've been a Christian for 30+ years and I sort of take it for granted that:
- Life is purpose driven, every day I get out of bed and go 'yeah!'
- Happiness and pleasure are two totally different things. People persue pleasure and often end up miserable
- Jesus was perfect. Looking at any other person througout history shows that mankind is infected with sin. But Jesus is the answer.
- In the West (which was once known as Christendom) we have the happiest countries in the world. Sadly, a lot of the West is going down-hill.
Happiness and JOY are two different things. Pleasure can bring (temporary) happiness. But joy, well, we know where joy comes from and that it can be lasting. 🙂
When i talk to people about the Bible I give them this Example.
66 books written by over 40 people over 2000 years creating a INTERGRATED Consistent message.
Star Wars Sequels, written over 6 years, by 6 people, spending BILLIONS of dollars to create the most INCONSISTANT STORY ever! :P
Ya, the Bible ain't authored by Man.
:P
yeah, because a movie trilogy is a great comparison to the most important book of a whole 2000 years religion, yet it works, mhm i wonder why
Look into added 1000 years to the time we live.
True!!!
@@cipherklosenuf9242 beautifully said
Love that comparison!
I was taught most of these things as a child, I find it interesting just the same. Speaking of prayer, I pray everywhere especially in traffic 1) because its a good use of my time, 2) because I'm less likely to flip someone the bird (lol). Sometimes though, I feel that prostrating before God when I'm feeling particularly humbled seems right somehow.
Thanks Melissa!!! Yes girl! I'm a semi new believer of 2 1/2 years. I'm an ex-New Ager, LGBTQ, and mormon. Jesus came to me, and delivered me in my living room in my studio apartment. I was looking for truth, because I was so confused with what reality was.
Studying to become an apologetics teacher. Learning the process of discipleship at the moment so I can do my part in disciplining others correctly. At the moment I'm ready J. Warner Wallace books! Incredible knowledge.
You have helped me with so much already with understanding. Thanks lady! Hope to have the time to talk to you soon!
Love stories like yours Ashlee. Its hard to find the truth in this day and age of deception.
May your faith in the Lord Jesus be stronger day by day!!!🙏❤️
Replicate is a great book for Discipleship I found. Anything by Robby Gallaty
Thanks for sharing your testimony ❤ GOD be with u.
my boyfriend is too passionate about the wise men not being there the moment Jesus was born😂 he gets so frustrated when we see nativity scenes
My mom does too. 😂
I'm right there with him!
Maybe on the passion side, but he’s actually right
God bless him!! In good fun I hassle those who send me those 3 magi at the manger Christmas cards.
We put our Nativity on one side of our living room on a shelf, and the wise men with a camel go on the other side of the living room on another shelf. Just for the attempt of accuracy. 😂
This is why it’s so important to actually read and study the Word of God. Yet we take so much for granted because of the tradition of man. We tend to rely on others for the information we take in.
R9;
I would say yes and no. First, if one does not understand the context of traditions and ignores the historical context in which they existed particularly in the sense of art, music and architecture, one cannot blame the tradition itself, but the person's own lack of understadning. Pick up a book or do a google search. The history behind winged angels and halos for example is fascinating if you are an art buff. I am more inclined on the musical end of the spectrum, so traditions there is more of my interest.
AMEN! :D But also what Jonathan Lee Ching said lol
Very true
Yes halos show that the saints themselves do not give out light but reflect the glory of God whom they see and experience in heaven.
I love the way you explain things. Clearly and concise. I would love to hear your suggestions on how to share the gospel with others in a simple way with a language that regular people would. Understand and won’t find it confusing or scary when we mention the concept of sin, death , etc . Thank you so much for your videos . 🙏
"The P in Psalms is silent" As a foreing learner, I find this hilarious
I thought everyone knew that 😂😂
Lol yes some ppl pronounce it Pah-salms
For what it's worth, the "b" in debt is also silent. (Surprisingly, lots of native English speakers don't know this.)
@@asmartbajan but the "L" in wolf is not! 😄
I thought she was saying this quickly and with a smile because she was referring to how President Biden pronounced it wrong in a speech he gave on Easter. He apparently didn’t know that the P in Psalms was silent. Things that make you go 🤔.
: )
I became a Christian about a year ago and this was still super helpful! Maybe not all the points, but I'm so glad I stumbled across this video. I'm definitely going to share this video at my next Bible study in the young adults' group!
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I’m not new to Christianity, but some of the facts explained were new to me….thanks Melissa!
I agree
Melissa you are such a breath of fresh air! I've been a believer for over 30 yrs and in those years I've probably spent just less than a year at a large church. My growth has always been in small settings where I must be accountable for myself.
I must seek the truth out.
The just shall live by HIS faith as Habakkuk writes it. It's MY faith I am accountable for on judgment day.
I knew all of these except I will be searching the scriptures to see about Mary Magdalene. That one slipped by me. Many blessings on your ministry you are NEEDED esp in these last days. I love your roll off the back attitude towards those who choose to be ignorant. Your light and fun and sober minded. Blessings to you and your family.
When I started reading the Bible at age 14 (I am 33 now), I wished someone had told me that the bible contains 66 books broken up into two testaments that is not necessarily in chronological order. Had I known this, I would not have read the Bible cover to cover my first go around. Now having read it through multiple times, I don't understand how anyone can deny it's validity!
Do you not read it in the order it’s already in? If not I’d like to know how you read it
@@lyssalouise2705 Yes that's my point. I have read it in order from cover to cover. However, as a new believer, this is not the best way to go about reading the scriptures because you need to have foundations laid regarding who Jesus is, what he came to do, and what he expects of us as individuals and within the church. All this can be read in the new testament. Then, a new believer should read the old testament because the foundation laid by the new testament will be reinforced and the stories of the old testament will make more sense. It's also important to note that certain books in the old testament don't progress the biblical narrative further. These include the Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiasties and some of the profets. These are all key details that need to be known so the reader isn't confused; especially if they are a new disciple of Christ. Today, I personally go through the old and new testaments in a year time frame. So it takes me two years to read the entire bible. Doing this helps me do a deep dive into what I am reading, cross referencing key details found in other books of the bible that reinforce my understanding. For example, the book of Hebrews makes many references to old testament scriptures. As I read through this book, I take my time and read in context what is being referenced in the old testament so that I understand what the author of that book is trying to convey. I hope that makes sense.
@@DianaDeLaRosa1808 Good way of approaching scripture. I think structure is very important to understand, most of us emphasize reading through the bible as quick as posible over really zooming in to the narrative and the idea the author of each book is trying to communicate.
@@cipherklosenuf9242 Verifiable knowledge is sought for assuming and by faith there is objective truth to be found. The intelligible universe was created that way.
@@cipherklosenuf9242 Jesus was the ultimate Lamb… the ultimate sacrifice. People died for their belief in this before the gospels were finished. They were being called Christians and executed for 300 yrs for believing in the resurrection before the “Bible” as a collection existed. It was their belief and faith in Jesus’ resurrection which separates Christianity from Hebrew not just the scriptures.
I’m an “old” Christian 😉 & I still learned a few new things! I love it. Thank You ❤️
Thanks so much for this video, Melissa! Some of these were new to me, some I knew. One thing that bothers me is when someone dies and people say that they got their angel wings. The Bible is very clear that we do not become angels - they were created by God to serve Him and care for His people. (Hebrews 1:14)
Yes! You do not become an angel when you die. I hate to say this but most people do not go to heaven.
I’m giggling right now because of the joy bubbling out of you Melissa, please don’t be sorry about that, I’m sure I’m not the only one out here that needed that.
There is so much tradition passing as theology in churches as to have changed the message of Jesus to create the country clubs that most churches have become.
@@chopppacalamari The Christian doctrine is the gospel of grace NOT the gospel of the KIngdom. ETERNAL LIFE COMES FROM THE TREE OF LIFE IN THE KINGDOM. THE SCRIPTURES ARE AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS POST. The promise of the Kingdom and Israel being exalted above all other nations is what Peter and the apostles looked forward to. The Kingdom which brings in the new covenant according to the book of Hebrews 9 & 10 will be so impressive it will draw Gentiles to the Jews who are to be a light to the world. Zech.8
[23] Thus saith the LORD of hosts; In those days it shall come to pass, that ten men shall take hold out of all languages of the nations, even shall take hold of the skirt of him that is a Jew, saying, We will go with you: for we have heard that God is with you.
Seriously based on that and many OT prophecies for Israel and it's kingdom does it seem as if people in the age of grace are saved by that? In Jesus's ministry the KIngdom was at hand but never came because of unbelief. All the Jews had to do was believe that Jesus was the Son of God, the Christ and obey the Law of Moses.
Under the gospel of grace Christ is the foundation but we must believe in the shed blood for forgiveness, His death, burial and resurrection. Basically what the apostle Paul teaches us Gentiles. Not quite the same. He was raised to give us eternal life but for the Jew according to Peter in Acts 2 [29] Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulchre is with us unto this day.
[30] Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne;
When Christ is reigning in the Kingdom eternal life comes FROM THE TREE OF LIFE Rev.2
[7] He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God.
Rev.22
[2] In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.
[14] Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.
How do you know they have changed the message of Jesus?

I went to a Christian school when I was young, and I remember always wondering why we bowed our heads to pray. I even said when I was little, "why do we look at the ground to pray if God is in heaven, shouldn't we look up?" And anytime I pray, I always look up without even thinking about it.

I have been a Christian for 51 years and I believed the account of Paul’s name and Mary Magdalen . Thanks Melissa✝️
I'm realizing more and more as the years go by that I spent many years exposed to a lot of the prosperity gospel because of my late mother. I had to re-learn many things as I deeply studied my bible.

Your so witty. Also, a fun fact the animals didn't go into the ark 2x2. In other words in 1 pair of male and female. The unclean animals went in as one pair 2x2 but the clean animals went in 7 pairs or 2x7.
I’ve been preaching about the wise men for years in my Christmas sermon for years just to show people the importance of actually reading the scriptures and not getting our understanding from pop art and culture
Like the fact the Wise Men were Persian Zoroastrians? That's never been taught in any church I've been to.
@@garrettoconnell8671 not sure that is covered in scripture. All I’ve been able to find is that they were from the East. I’m not saying they weren’t Zoroastrians ( I’ll have to research what that is), just saying I try to stick to preaching what I can prove from scripture and am careful to state wether something is from scripture or my opinion and if it’s my opinion I always state the reasons I have those opinions.
I would love to hear how you came to that conclusion
Love your explanations, Melissa! And they are on point too. I've been a Christian for most of my life... since 13yo actually and I'm 71 now. Still learning! PTL!! Thanks for sharing. Still new to the faith. Still learning.
As a Christian of 6 years (3 years in a mega church), I am today years old when I learnt some of these points that she mentioned. Thank you sister, God bless you!
13:40 I often point out to my family that we usually see pictures of angels as pretty women or young babies, but in scripture they are either male or their gender is not stated. They are also probably strong, beefy-looking things, not delicate babies, since people tend to be scared when they realize they are with an angel. This means I'm usually suspicious of any story someone shares of a supernatural encounter with a beautiful, female angel, although it could POSSIBLY be legitimate.

Your pronunciation of the book of Revelation... Thank you!!! Idk why, but this is one of my big pet peeves. Which I suppose I shouldn't have, but I guess I'm just OCD. I've been watching the Luther documentary from Ligonier ministries and they mentioned at that time that most people didnt have access to the scriptures and it humbled me a great deal. Praise God for his word.
Yes, this!! I’ve been going through the Bible this year with a friend and we’ve grown in the habit of thanking God for His word at the end of every weekly meeting we have. The depth of blessing it is for us to have this access to His word, it’s immeasurable. It’s a stark contrast to only being able to hear the scriptures.
I was raised Catholic and we NEVER read the Bible and you never saw Bibles in church. After researching what the Reformation was about, I finally understood why that was.
Yup. And contrary to misconception by some (including Lutherans themselves), it wasn’t entirely anyone’s fault. Books were hard to make before the printing press and the materials used were rather expensive. So the Church chained down the Bible, not because they didn’t want people to read it, but because it could be stolen and pawned, leaving nothing for anyone in the area to read. Where the Church WAS wrong was putting its authority over the Scriptures and also persecuting Wycliffe for his English translation for the common people.
We are so blessed.
@@Window4503 Wycliffe literally died so that people could read the Bible, and today even most Christians don't even bother to
The "P" in Psalms is Pslilent! Great list, thank you.
1) Out of 19 kings of the northern kingdom (Israel), all were bad.
2) Out of 20 kings who ruled the southern kingdom (Judah) only 6 were good. Even from them 5 had issues.
3) The word God (or any other spiritual term such as prayer) does not appear in the book of Esther.
4) John the Baptist was the last OLD Testament prophet.
5) Jesus had many (half) brothers and sisters born to Joseph and Mary.
6) John Mark, nephew of Barnabas, over whom Paul and Barnabas split their ministry, was the one who wrote the gospel of Mark.
7) There are only 149 Psalms because two of them are identical. Find out which two!
8) The first time a language became a world language (similar to English today) was when the Greek empire was established by Alexander the Great. The second time was with the British empire.
9) The gospel spread very quickly throughout the known world in the first century because of Greek being the world language and the Romans built roads, as well as establish sea routes.
10) Purim and Hanukkah are Jewish festivals that are in addition to the 7 religious festivals prescribed in the law of Moses.
I didn't know about the Saul/Paul same name game. 😁 I really thought he changed his name so Christians wouldn't be afraid of persecution or jail time from him.👏

THANKS! Especially, for defending Mary Magdalene,..... So many think she is a harlot, Wrong....!
You’re right about the importance of understanding the Bible from the perspective of the original audience. I love learning from Messianic Jews.
One amazing thing I learned recently was that Bethlehem Ephratah was specifically the agricultural district in Bethlehem. The profound significance of this is only understood when you realize that this is where all of the sacrificial lambs were bred and raised for the sacrifices in the Temple in Jerusalem. They would even wrap them in swaddling cloth for transit to Jerusalem to protect them from wounds or marks of any kind. I’ve always know He was born in an animal pen and placed in a manger, but I never would have made the sacrificial lamb connection on my own.
I learnt that not long ago also. Our Father is amazing, every little detail of scripture fulfilled in His Son our Savior 😍
@@markdonnaabbott3977 it’s amazing how we can see these kinds of connections woven all through God’s work.

4 Things I wish I knew as new believer:
1. You can't take all the doctrines and mash them up. There's a difference between a local strategy and a whole doctrine.
2. Repentance doesn't mean regret and cry but the radical decision to turn away from your sin towards God (repent= metamorphos - transformation)
3. There is only one truth but you have to stay humble and just follow the Scriptures and can't just live on emotions.
4. Its more fearful to fall into the hands of demons than into the hands of God because He loves us. ( I was terrified of cherubims and couldn't sleep so I asked the Lord to keep them away from me) I had a demonic attack later and it was like... Man I think I prefer fall into the hand of God. Those being are scary but on my side at least.
Number 4 is relatable, I used to be scared of angels
I've bought a Bible without verse numbers
(couldn't find one without chapters - I looked)
but its great to just read it straight through without breaks
new understandings emerge when you read it that way
highly recommended
Yes, I try so hard to ignore the chapters and subtitles! You’re right, a whole new perspective is realized that way.
That is why I listen to the Bible while driving. I don't hear chapter or verse, I just know which book as I am in. Blows your mind
This!

What's the bible's name or producer? I'd like to get it
Addressing a couple of your points.
1. The reason new believers don't know a lot, is because the "church" has failed them. They don't raise up disciples.
11. The last supper.
Matthew 26:17-20 (KJV)
17 Now the first day of the feast of unleavened bread the disciples came to Jesus, saying unto him, Where wilt thou that we prepare for thee to eat the passover?
18 And he said, Go into the city to such a man, and say unto him, The Master saith, My time is at hand; I will keep the passover (at thy house with my disciples).
19 And the disciples did as Jesus had appointed them; and they made ready the passover.
20 Now when the even was come, he sat down with the twelve.
* Where did he sit? With the 12 at the unknown mans house. Below you will see that the washing of the feet was immediately after the supper.
John 13:1-5 (KJV)
13 Now before the feast of the passover, when Jesus knew that his hour was come that he should depart out of this world unto the Father, having loved his own which were in the world, he loved them unto the end.
2 (And supper being ended), the devil having now put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, to betray him;
3 Jesus knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he was come from God, and went to God;
4 He riseth from supper, and laid aside his garments; and took a (towel), and girded himself.
5 After that he poureth water into a (bason), and began to wash the disciples' feet, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded.
* Where did the towel and bason come from? The HOUSE of the man in which they ate the supper in.
I would be more than happy to answer any questions you may have. The main issue I see is that there is a lot of theology, philosophy and religion in your answers.
This is bad. Theology is man's attempt to control that which belongs to God.
Philosophy is man's attempt at proving God a liar
Religion is the sin that gave life to them both.
The bible teaches that we are to let God teach us, not man. John 6:45 and 1 John 2:27
You made a reference to KJV as if it was a bad thing. I assure you, just because it has the word bible on it. That doesn't mean it's a bible. My guess is you have an (interpretation) not a translation. NIV, ESV, MSG, CEV, Passion, NLT are just a few you should stay away from.
Love this video! More facts please. You have such great ideas for videos and your execution of them is smashing. Also, you're clearly witty and your hair is gorgeous 🌷

Over the last 15 years, I wish I knew what I know now that I should have known THEN.
Don't worry God has a perfect timing :D
We're still learning and growing so don't be hard on yourself!
Jesus loves you God bless you and may He be with you always!✝️💞
You can't know it all at any given time. And also, you're not the only one to fall away. I have too. The good news is we are always welcomed back. I'm not suggesting this is something that is okay or encouraged, it just means we're human.

Suggestion: Make a follow-up video regarding things Christians struggle with. I'm 63, grew up in the South where I only heard that everything that didn't line up with x, y, and z will send you to hell. Along the way in different churches I heard,, "If you're not hearing from God then you're lacking faith or have sin in my life." At times, the church and some Christians can spin one in circles in seeking the Lord. I've been struggling as a Christian because I my life doesn't look like others and I have questions...uugghh!
Love it! So true that we forget we were "unknowledgable Christians" at one point! i knew all but one item you brought up. I love hearing facts about the bible. It never gets old and it serves to be a refresher. I remember reconciling about Mary Magdalene after first finding out she was demon possessed and not a prostitute. it was hard believing it but the proof was in the reading! thanks for the enjoyable content!
The Bible wasn't compiled at the Council of Nicea. It was compiled at the Council of Rome in 382 AD in response to the promulgation of Gnostic gospels.
With all these misconceptions, I’m thinking that more Bibles should add a “how to read” after the preface. I’ve also run into the problem of trying to tell people (usually nonbelievers who insist that they’ve read more of the Bible than Christians…you know, those guys) how to read it and how it works, with little success.
One of the first translators of scripture to English said this. - “It shall greatly help ye to understand the Scriptures if thou mark not only what is spoken or written, but of whom and to whom, with what words, at what time, where, to what intent, with what circumstances, considering what goeth before and what followeth after. ”
― Miles Coverdale
I love this.. if there’s any one bible I recommend, it’s the new inductive study Bible by precept ministries. It teaches poia and things to look for in every book!!
"hêlēl" is in-fact the proper name for Lucifer... it occurs one time in the KJV Bible, which is what you should be using, btw, and anyone discouraging you from that is very much deceived.
Lucifer's name in Hebrew seems to stem from the word: hālal
Jesus is called by many names and designations, from many forms of God's name and the Father, to Rock, to Worm, to Lion of the Tribe of Judah, Lamb of God, Messiah, and many others.
Similarly, you can't limit Satan's designations to just two identifiers.
He is referred to, first, as a Serpent, and also last as a Serpent or a Dragon, but he's also referred to as Lucifer, Satan, devil, etc.
It also says that he holds the power of death, so when there is reference to the destruction of death, it also has clear implications.
Genesis 3:1 (KJV)
Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?
Revelation 12:9 (KJV)
And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.
Matthew 4:1-4 (KJV)
Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.
And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred.
And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.
But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
Matthew 13:37-40 (KJV)
He answered and said unto them, He that soweth the good seed is the Son of man;
The field is the world; the good seed are the children of the kingdom; but the tares are the children of the wicked one;
The enemy that sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the world; and the reapers are the angels.
As therefore the tares are gathered and burned in the fire; so shall it be in the end of this world.
Matthew 25:40-43 (KJV)
And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.
Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:
For I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink:
I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not.
John 8:43-45 (KJV)
Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word.
Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.
And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not.
2 Corinthians 11:14 (KJV)
And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.
2 Thessalonians 2:7-10 (KJV)
For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way.
And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:
Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,
And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.
Hebrews 2:14-15 (KJV)
Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;
And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.
1 John 3:8-10 (KJV)
He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.
Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.
In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother.
Revelation 20:10-15 (KJV)
And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.
And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them.
And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.
And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.
And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.
And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.
I actually just realized the Saul / Paul fact this morning during my bible reading time.
Also, I wonder where we learned that on your knees, head bowed posture of prayer...? The only physical posture I can recall is people falling on their faces.
My youth group is doing the Battle Plan for Prayer study by the Kendrick brothers and apparently that prayer position came from the tradition of serfs paying homage to their king in the middle ages. The serfs would gather at set times and come, one-by-one, to kneel before the king and place their folded hands in his, saying "I'm your man". Apparently the church adopted this position of prayer as symbolic of paying homage to God as our king.
There are a few instances when people pray kneeling down in the Bible. Here's a few:
Daniel 6:10
When Daniel knew that the document had been signed, he went to his house where he had windows in his upper chamber open toward Jerusalem. He got down on his knees three times a day and prayed and gave thanks before his God, as he had done previously.
Luke 22:41
And he withdrew from them about a stone's throw, and knelt down and prayed, (that's Jesus praying)
Acts 21:5
When our days there were ended, we departed and went on our journey, and they all, with wives and children, accompanied us until we were outside the city. And kneeling down on the beach, we prayed
@@hannahnewell305 Thank you for that insight!
@@ssstankkka Thank you for that scripture!
1. Church is NOT the Ekklesia 2. Most Christians are NOT the elect. 3. I can not save anyone. 4. Jesus is the Word of God, not the scriptures. 5. Prophecy is only for the time it is happening. 6. Don't look for affirmation from Churchians. 7. The position of the Pastor is a giant magnet for Narcissists. 8. The World is here for us, not us for the World. 9. Dying to self really sucks. 9. The Holy Spirit is your first and best teacher. 10. Success is not a sign of blessing but probably compromise.
That Paul/Saul one really got me. My whole Bible study (including myself) actually brought that up briefly last week, but we all were thinking God changed his name... and I was thinking... wait, where did that happen? And I figured I just forgot where it happened and we'd come across it shortly (we're working through the book of Acts), but alas, I don't think I shall come across it anymore. XD and I've been a Christian for years. Love this vid, Melissa!
Soon its going to be 3 years since that day that i realized how wicked and sinful i am and that I'm going to he'll and found out how precious it is to know the Lord Jesus Christ by believing his gospel, the problem is i dont know if I really believe in Jesus, i mean i constantly pray to God for forgiveness i confess my sins to him i know I'm a liar, fornicator, idolater, and murderer at heart and that i believe in Jesus I even visualize my sin being poured out in Jesus' body on the cross so I can be justified but i still feel that doubt about whether my faith is real or not ive almost read the bible 3 times and the gospel of john at least 6 times because I know that it was written so i could believe that Jesus is the Son of God and I know that Jesus is the only way to be saved for he died for the sin of the world, his death on the cross is enough for the remission of sins for anyone who believes and that God can forgive us forever and grant us everlasting life only by that work of love performed by Jesus for us. But I just don't feel that relationship with God. I feel alone, I'm not sure what has changed since the day I supposedly believed. I don't feel peace. I feel like I'm going to be condemned even when I know the promises of God because I always get back to the main question: do I truly TRULY believe? I know that if I'm not a child of God I'm nothing. And I'm honestly sick of not knowing who I truly am. It's so hard to bear this doubt. I want peace. And I know that God is the God of peace and joy and that He gives it abundantly but somehow I feel that he just hates me. If I'm a child of God, why doesn't he discipline me? Why doesn't he counsel me? If the Holy Spirit gives us testimony that now we belong to God, why doesn't He tell me so?whatever the reason, I know I'm doing wrong because God doesn't do anything wrong. Then I come back trying to repent confess again that Jesus is Lord so God would save me but I still feel the same. I try to find but I dont see a growth in love in my life. This is a huge despair. I even started to cry reading this, my soul is in such a great deep pain. I just want God but I dont know what else can I do
Oh yes those with the gift of hospitality impress me so much! I'm an introvert too and laughed way too hard at that 😂😂😂
Glad for your disclaimer at the beginning. It put me in a mood to enjoy it rather than, "I already knew all these!" I didn't know the origins of Aramaic were Babylonian! That was very interesting! I've also never heard the idea that Mary Magdalene was a prostitute!
Melissa as to point #9 (extra stories about Mary Magdaline not found in the Bible)...why didnt you mention **cough cough** Dallas Jenkins and his The Chosen? Talk about extra biblical stories being added.
Well you see when Melissa was talking about extra stories about Mary Magdaline that are told but are not found in the Bible, I think she was referring to stories that people actually believe to be Biblical. While The Chosen is a Biblical show, it adds in some "un-Biblical" information, for example, the names of characters such as Simon's wife or the fact that the wedding they had was that of the friends of Jesus' family. These things do not interfere with the Gospel message. Although they probably aren't accurate, they make for a compelling story and help others to connect better with the show and make it more enjoyable. The Chosen doesn't give us un-Biblical accounts of Mary Magdaline's life, it expands on her story to show us the life she might've had and to help the audience relate to her better. They aren't adding in "extra biblical stories", they are using cultural references and Biblical facts in order to create a more compelling show. The Chosen is not the Bible, it is a representation of events that likely could've happened due to the cultural and historical setting that these people were living in, but it still is able to stay true to the Gospel message. I don't speak for Dallas Jenkins or The Chosen, but after watching the interview Melissa did with Dallas (you should check it out if you haven't), I think that my view is an accurate representation of what they are doing in the show. Hope this helped!
Psst!!
It's a TV show! 😉
And they encourage viewers to read the actual scriptures, because their aim is not historicity.
@@allisonbernier6846 psst they're aligned with new agers and Catholicism, it's vain imaginations, it's not biblical...each to their own
@@markdonnaabbott3977 exactly...but the blind eyes keep on turning when it comes to Jenkins...smh
The Chosen doesn't claim to be directly, verse by verse, from the Bible and doesn't claim to take the place of the Bible. It's a pretty simple answer, actually. I cannot think of a single show or film portraying historical events, Biblical or otherwise, that doesn't take creative liberties to further the story or pad the runtime. These liberties do not fundamentally change the truth of the narrative, but they do add layers. Mary Magadelene was a sinner in need of grace. That much is true. Her struggle with sin in the show and Jesus' extension of grace is true, regardless of whether or not she struggled with that particular sin. We know Jesus got tired and hungry because he was fully man, so why is it a problem to watch him practice a sermon? We know that Matthew was considered an outcast, so why is an issue if he is portrayed as autistic? I love watching the show because it gives me a picture of how it might have been for these 12 men to just come together from different backgrounds. It would have been tense. There would have been fights. There would have been doubting and power struggles. And I love that the show gives us those. The need for a Savior and the truth of the gospel hasn't changed by what the show has added. If you feel that it is best for you to stay away from the show because it would negatively affect your walk, then by all means avoid it, but please don't act like you're trying to oust a false teacher or that you're a better Christian than those who are fans of the show. Yes, there are Catholics and Mormons involved. There are also atheists working on the show and Orthodox Jews. What a unique and incredible opportunity for them to see a glimpse of who Jesus is in hopes that it will prompt them to seek more! My brother grew up in church, read the Bible, has read more commentary books than I can count, and has refused to believe. But we caught him secretly watching the Chosen and he pointed out that it was a relief to finally see Jesus portrayed in such an approachable way. I believe that the Holy Spirit is working in him and using this show as one of the tools. That seems to be the case for several people, in fact. Again, no one is asking you to like it, but we could do without the haughtiness.
Yeah your point about the Hebrew and English or Gentile mindset is very true I started studying from a Hebrew perspective and it changed everything Ivan bought a complete Jewish Bible that's a little different
Wow, this video really puts into perspective and gets your ready for when you’re helping others that are new in the Faith… Christ being Jesus’ last name got me🤣
The reason we traditionally pray in the way we do, is because our minds respond to what our bodies do.
If you make that physical movement, to prostrate yourself before God, you are more easily put into that mental state of humility and subjugation.
The old way you described also works, however, as you look up, as if beseeching a king upon a mountainous throne, arms outstretched in vulnerability.
I was born and raised in the church and #2 should be taught from the first day of Sunday School for children! I was in my 30's before this was revealed to me or maybe someone said it and I wasn't listening ( very real possibility). It completely changed my reading and understanding of the bible! I actually asked my preacher why this wasn't emphasized more once it was explained to me.
Hi Melissa, I agree with all your points, but I still do believe that there is some great reverence to God when we kneel down to pray. Not that I am saying it has to be done all the time but when possible in private. I refer to Psalms 95 vs 6 and Luke 22 vs 41
I’m 14% or maybe even 25% smarter now🤣 This was very informative and you did a great job in a couple of sentences explaining it.
Yes! Oh thank you so much! I was just having a conversation with a fellow new Christian and as a new Christian myself, we have found it all a little overwhelming to understand. I know understanding will come but very much welcome your videos 🙏 God bless you
This was a revelation! See what I did there? (I'll see myself out)
yeah the Adam & Eve eating apple was probably depicted as eating apples during the renaissance era because apples are prominent in Greek myth and art. also there’s a Greek story about a garden, a tree, forbidden fruit, and a dragon which most likely was a corrupted version of the Genesis account of the Garden of Eden.
Fun fact. I thought for YEARS that David wrote all the Psalms and that Solomon wrote all the Proverbs. Uhm... Not so, hehe
Can I just add "son of" also in theology refer to "in character of". Compare Peter with Jonah and you can see why Peter is "son of Jonah"
Oh wow cool!! Thank you
It's more important to learn and understand how to hear the simple voice of the Holy Spirit & obey Him, than to be so concerned about speaking in tongues and having super spiritual experiences.
Dang it! I said apple! 🤣
I've had somebody say pomegranate before…. how do you just bust in and eat a pomegranate?
@@forgivenmuch7 Wow really? I feel like that is creative at least!
Yeah I said "PEHSALMS" instead of psalms😂
I said pomegranate… I think someone told me that at some point
In western Europe, the apple is used mainly because of a linguistic pun - apple sounded like evil. No one really believed that it was an apple, but moderns did because of a lack of knowledge. Apple in the proto-Germanic could mean other kinds of fruit (including nuts but not berries) which continued very late into the use of the English language. If one reaches into history, these traditions (rather than being a negative thing) can be viewed as a means of understanding history and culture better.
Figs, pomegranates, bananas and grapes have all been in the running, but no one knows. Each fruit has its own story as to why it should be a contender. Once again it depends on the cultural context of those sharing their thoughts. Then again, apple could technically cover these fruits and more.
I'm so relieved I knew most of this stuff. I'm finally showing my growth. Yee haw. You, by the by, are hilarious. Never change. :0)
Wow…I didn’t know that about the Saul/Paul name change. 🤭 This video was so good! If you can come up with more, please make another one. Thanks!🙂
I actually didn't know number 18. I love fun facts. Thanks for sharing
The point about Satan's name surprised me.......that actually makes his fall a little sadder😔
You should totally do a painting of the Last Supper that is biblical and historically correct!
Exactly! The Jews did not eat at upright tables. They laid down on low-slung platforms. They looked like small couches with short legs, only a few inches high.
Man, I'm so glad you made a video about this because I was sitting here this morning writing down my own experience about how I really wish I understood a lot of spiritual things, back in high school, from a biblical perspective. Looking back, high school was the most spiritually active time of my life, given that I was vibrantly full of curiosity. I wanted to know the symbolism of everything from colors, to the elements, to animals, to numbers and even the seasons themselves, but I was still looking to the New Age Movement (granted, I was lazy with even that too). Between freshman and junior years, I likewise ended up living in spiritual ignorance, and it didn’t leave me enlightened at all. I realize now that even back then, the Holy Spirit truly wanted to me to take a biblical and prophetic understanding of everything I wanted to know. I would have been totally fine skipping an entirely theological perspective if it meant addressing what God wanted me to get into, first.
When I was beginning in senior year in high school, and freshman year in college, I began getting far out of my spiritual ignorance by being trained in Christian philosophy and some basic understanding of theology. I read books in those areas, and then I gave them away when I realized that I didn't need them anymore, and it wasn't where God fully wanted me to be.
What an excellent episode! While I knew all 20 I'm very impressed that Melissa presents this information to others. Great job!!
I enjoyed this very much. I too remember thinking the first time I read the Gospels, "Why I am reading the same story again?" 😂 The last supper image is so ingrained, I remember watching a movie where the actor portraying Jesus was building a table and built it a little higher saying it would work better. Wonderful reminders and great for new Christians. 🌸
It was The Passion of the Christ. He says a Roman man wanted him to build it bc he likes earing, "Like this," the Jesus demonstrates sitting.
Mary then tries and says, "It will never catch on."
Pronounced Revelation, not Revelation(s)....lol, I have to remind people of this...
Yasss! I was a later in life convert and I was shocked to learn these facts as well. Most people in church have been raised in church. When outsiders come in we often forget they need a Bible 101 course. When I first began to attend church I also remember people saying “you need to repent” and I kept thinking what the heck is repent??? 😂 and the “let’s all sing amazing grace” song leader who doesn’t give the number in the song book. Unchurched people do not know the words to hymns y’all. 😊
Thank you for this video.
When I hear the word repent it still confuses me
All I believe is I’m a sinner , Jesus paid for my sin, was buried
And rose again.
So Im justified in his sight
I hate how complicated people have mad e the gospel
Hi Melissa! Do you know where the myth of Lilith (Adam's "first wife) came from?
"saul" is actually pronounced "sha-ool"
Thanks for the heads up on Paul.
I thoroughly enjoyed every word that was spoken through you. It is amazing how much information we can obtain by simply reading the Word of God! Amazing right? Oh how thankful I am for God pulling me back from the path I was on. Praise The Lord Jesus Christ!
Keep doing what you are doing and keep sharing. More words such as this are truly needed in these times. Actually..............they have been needed for a VERY long time.
