Why are you on here? And more importantly, may I please use your sax as a drumstick?

Yep. So have I.

Marimba is one of those Instruments that can sound Cute and Innocent, then Fierce.
Vordelius so... an agressive pug
And give me insecurity aboit how much I suck and can't read music proficiently even though this is my 8th year in band
logan favro+ phat mood except I’m a euph player and have been in band for 6 years
Like a murderous teddy bear
Not the marimba is not one of those instruments I’m afraid.
Yessirrr
Could I get like the first 10 measures just to show off in band class
Grim Reaper theres a google drive with a bunch of dci stuff just look up “dci/wgi drive”
A transcribed version of the Metamorph score is on musescore...
sodacova its very inaccurate
Cubelantis Depends on which one you’re talking about
I wish somebody would make a video that has a side by side of a these head cam videos so you can see everything going on at the same time!!
Ive seen a bluecoats 2016 that’s like that, but the sound is really weird
Scv 2016
ZayProductions it’s never too late to do something great. I’d watch the hell outta that
It’s been made, I’ve seen it before.

11:06 - 11:35 oh my god. Like holy crap. I can't even imagine playing something like that, my chops definitely aren't up to speed. Still, amazing to watch every time.
My chops are fast enough but literally every single note will be wrong
Same. I have a few sixtuplet runs this year, but for that duration and at that speed I would definitely hit every note incorrectly. Absolutely incredible to watch.
I play tuba but I like all instruments so I watch all cans

Corp*
This “band” is one of the top drum corps in the US, with 18 titles to its name. And I’m no BD fan, my heart belongs to the Phantom Regiment. Which I totally recommend, listen to 1989, 1996, 2008, and 2010.
@@robbieh.4116 Its a drum corps which has its own roots separate from bands but it doesn't really matter pretty much all of the performers come from band/orchestra backgrounds anyway
Omfg he's playing at like 100 inches sometimes and still hitting the right notes with all 4 mallets!!!!
THANK YOU SM I DON'T KNOW HOW LONG I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR A BD MARIMBA CAM
Choooppppsss
Interesting cross-grip at the beginning
got him to the blue devils now didnt it XD
Noobwitdeskillz everyone was using traditional at the beginning lmao. Not just this guy
Uliana Buslovska It looked to me like this guy was using traditional, not burton
I'm pretty sure the grip at the beginning was meant to be a throwback to the original days of dci, like how all the battery percussionists had snare drums. Similar thing about a transition from the past to the future.
3333bummer I think it's easier to maintain an octave in your hand using cross-grip (correct me if I'm wrong I'm
pure trash at mallets)
My favorite part begins at 0:30
O god the dude on the left is my percussion instructor
ArkticArk really ?!?!?

their note transitions are sooooooo smooth
What’s with all the hate on traditional grip?
0:01-12:43 is my favorite part
I hate the part 12:16 - 12:19
Except when the voice says Concord, Blue Devils
Yeah I agree
6:27 starts the best part❤️😉
I only care about battery why am I watching pit I can hardly read bass clef
Ofish Games the only time I’ve ever used bass clef for pit was when I played bottom synth
Its not too hard to read bass clef, just move the notes up by two notes to get the treble clef equivilent
Mykel Fam Bit late on this but two? Isn't it one note higher for treble?
Jeffrey Brent Really?
Evan Slack yeah. Two notes or one line/space (that's how I think of it). Either way, it's the same thing.
Great playing! Thanks for posting. Love the use of different grips when the writing called for it. Very professional--- do what works best.
10:49 yall are having way too much fun
I've watched this many times both here, on the video and in person, and the his cymbal role speeds really bug me. He could achieve the same effect by rolling slower with more power. The center marimba does the the aforementioned technique. This is still insane though
Agreed, that semi bugged me but it still did. Very amazing playing though!! I play on a vibraphone and its pretty cool.
Do you know the name of this college?
What? Like where they're rehearsing?
Daniah Colomathi this is dci not collage
10:21 my favorite blue devils moment to this day and i can’t tell you why

WHAT MALLETS ARE THOSE
11:06 best part
This is so amazing! I'm a high school marching band mallet player and this is just so cool to me! Our band director showed our pit a blue fevils performance for reference to improve our technique and visuals. I aspire to be just like you! My main focus is xylophone but thos year, for our second song, our ballad, I have to run to one of the marimba and play alongside the marimba player with 4 mallets. I wish I could at some point be as good as you
Wait, my teacher taught me a different way to hold 4 marimba mallets.
There r a lot of different ways to hold them. I personally use Stevens grip but u may use Burton’s grip or another
Yeh there's like 3 different grips. I try to use burton. Steven is weird to me and i cant figure it out
I didn't know there is a corps that allows Burton Grip on Marimba
1:20 to 1:37 is so beautiful

10:27 Best part
This is my favorite show of all time. The blue devils are amazing
How non percussionists feel when they play the lick on a marimba
Marimba seems less tactile then say a piano, easier to hit wrong note. I struggle to understand how you can be so accurate
Same.
Well it really depends on the difficulty of the music and experience of the player. The more experienced you are are, the more comfortable with playing certain intervals of notes you get whether its chords, independent strokes, or even 2 mallet stuff
Repetition legitimizes
After long enough your hands and fingers know where things are better than you do, it's kinda creepy. For example, since keys are graduated in width, my fingers have gotten used to slightly adjusting the interval when I play octaves going up or down, and I'm able to hit the notes most of the time now. It's black magic, mostly.
I'm disappointed in this after watching the ouroboros marimba cam 50 million times
THE WINK IS EVERYTHING
I only heard this song from the guy with the glockenspiel’s point of view by it sounded even better than I thought
I find that The Company and BD shows sound very similar.
Is this dude related to Kiichi?
i was bouta ask that
Sadly, No.
Kiichi is from Hachioji HS, And Masato is from Tenrikyoko Gakuen HS.

I’m only here for the trumpet solo at 6:45
What is with the traditional grip???
gamecubehero Helps to maintain octaves
Also a callback to “the old times” hence why they all have snares, and all of the traditional things like the narration “first year in competition” that’s why they use traditional
Relaxed Void that's a good reason
The cross grip at the beginning is used probably for interval consistency
It’s called “Metamorph” this shows how at the beginning they used an older grip then they morph in to the updated grips
Juan
To this day I will still not know how they can play mallets like that
What grip is that
It was cool!!
6:29 the guy when he winks 😭🤌🏻

I I’ve the marimba cause it can represent every tone. It can go from being soft and quiet, to being fierce and loud. It’s honestly amazing
