It's here! The Tested team gathers to put together LEGO's largest set ever: the new UCS Millennium Falcon! This set belongs to guest Tommy Williamson of Bricknerd, and we review the build and compare it to the previous UCS Falcon that was released 10 years ago. Turns out it's a very different model, both inside and out.

I know folks are upset we took apart the instructions but there was no choice as the set only arrived the evening before the build and LEGO has not released the PDF yet. In order for an sorters/pickers and an interior/exterior team to be working we had to do it. Luckily it's spiral bound and can be reassembled. Also, the box was pretty squished during shipping.

Sean Charlesworth cool build & fun to watch but a little lackluster boys. i challenge you guys to combine the 2 sets (or however many you needs) & build the super, mega, ultimate millennium falcon set. now that would be a kick ass Lego build.

I own one of these myself. What an extraordinary journey putting this all together!! Because we have the option to use whichever dish you choose, I do hope the creator of this set will build and release a separate attachment for the front of the Falcon like we've seen in trailers for Solo: A Star Wars Story....

I somehow managed to order one of these on the lego site for my birthday in April 2018 after being out of stock since its release. I flew down to see my folks for a week and it arrived the day after flew back home. I waited another four months until I got the leave to go down and build it. Took me about 15 hours. Best lego therapy ever.

Patrick Connors take everyone but Norm. Norms the kinda guy who would try and pick up a large section of the Lego World display simply to get his oily mitts on something because he can't see even with those glasses. Depends. Star Wars tends to be higher, because they pay licensing cost. In-house projects like the Ninjago City which is UCS in all but name, is close to 7c/brick

For people who don't have the skill to build something impressively detailed themselves, I like Lego for its ability to grant that to anyone who wants that feeling of building something and the accomplishment rush you get when it all comes together.
I don't get Adam's delight with the building as much. He's in a whole other league where he actually can make the models that the movies will use. So the hand holding manual and paint by numbers design strikes me as something Adam would enjoy seeing the final build of but not the building. But I'm totally wrong, he even loves the prep.
I wonder if its a character flaw in me that I want to build one from scratch out of something. I have made 3D models but those are easy and not much harder than lego once you get going. I must learn to appreciate that delight in just doing shit, anything creative.

  • @johnrogers1251

Recently picked up my copy of this model. I had $260 or so in Lego VIP credit, so the price was a bit cheaper than $800, but still the most expensive single Lego purchase I've made (prior to that was the $499 Death Star, purchased due to 2x VIP points being offered). Still working on the Death Star, when that is finished, I'll be starting the UCS Falcon. I can only spend a few hours a week building, so it will take me over a month to finish the Falcon, I'm sure. But it will be enjoyable! :)

These are over $1000 on Ebay Australia lol. At first I was like "looks meh" as I'm not a huge fan of Lego but this was pretty amazing. I just built this set. What I enjoy about this most, is that with the number of spare pieces available, and the nature of this model, there's lots of opportunities to add even more greebles and details. With most lego sets there is always some opportunities to add some bits of customizations and the UCS Falcon is particularly excellent in this regard to allow some creative freedom in particular for going totally bananas on greebles.
Heres some additonal detail I added that connects the exposed engine details to the surface using similar build techniques in the model already:
    imgshare.io/image/20200326-142915.VPWj6
For me one of the most fun parts is going over the entire structure and looking at places where it feels like it could look better with a vent, slope, or additional bits of details. In fact in keeping with the model build style, I borrowed some greebling methods from the model itself in any small cosmetic changes I made on my Millennium Falcon.
The only gripe I have about this set, is that I felt the cockpit was very lacklustre. Still trying to figure out how to improve this tiny space which barely fits 4 figures but this is a small gripe over an overall fantastic model. I just feel the cockpit may have been designed better particularly the instrument clusters and little details. This whole part in my opinion could have been designed better. That middle slope definitely could use some kind of detail or a sticker to add more instruments detail IMO.
I made a small change borrowing a part from my UCS snowspeeder and it definitely looks better inside the cockpit with the additional instrumentation.

Scott G She never really fit in did she? Was nice to see a new face though. She's doing fine on her own. :-)

You can always tell who the science guy is by the fact they wince whenever the quote 'Made the kessel run in 12 parsecs' is said.

I'd love to see a video on how you guys got those amazing time lapse tracking shots. What kind of rig did you use for that?

I would set it on a shelf with the panels on half of the ship to appear to be peeling back by hanging them on fishing string

I had the same issues. I was refreshing the site and hour before launch and then right at launch time the site started crashing, buggy, and server errors. Luckily it responded enough that 5 min after launch I was able to put it in my bag. Then for the next 1.5 hours I fought the site from 4 different web browsers (Chrome ended up working best) and after getting part of the way through checkout several times I was finally able to get through the process. I think me getting it in my bag early help. every time I got booted it would away be in my bag already.
