Speed is a byproduct of control, slow and controlled practice will help you achieve the speed you want

With practice it matters so much less how much your practicing every day, than WHAT you’re practicing and how you’re approaching it. 4 hours of jamming to your favorite songs isn’t going to be as good as an hour of practicing a specific fill or sticking pattern you struggle with in one of those songs. But you also shouldn’t sit there for 4 hours doing the same thing over and over again. The best way to practice is to create blocks of time and to give yourself the space to make a mistake and just move on sometimes. What works for me is to literally shut my brain off and just hear every little thing I’m doing with my eyes closed. That’s when I learn the most. In those moments of silent bliss.

My bass player said something awesome during practice the other day in reference to my fills getting cleaner at high tempos. They said "you can play it fast cus you played it well slow. And fast is just slow but faster" 😂
