This is IMO The golden Era of SMG4! TWWB, R64 and Mario Simulator etc were the best. there was more *heart* to it that you could feel. modern shows have too many "Original" characters which makes it feel less and less like Mario Parodies. It's almost like SMG4's losing/lost their way.

You got it twisted. He took mario parodies and made them into his own, then he eventually created his own series. If anything there's a lot more heart to his modern vids than his old ones. I appreciate his old vids but I respect his new ones a lot. People don't see. He's been wanting to show more of his creativity as of late.
He did not lose his way. Smg4 is doing what he loves and is trying his best to satisfy everyone, not just people from the past. He was young back then. People change, and that's what you aren't getting.

now it's a more story-driven trying hard to be meme-like kind of abomination thing if that's the best way i can personally put it? which i'm not much into, and the humor is consistently hit-or-miss and different. i didn't watch smg4 to follow a story. i watched it because it made me laugh. i get why some fans like the modern content more - it's a different tone after all, but it's... just not for me anymore, and i'd rather watch another shows for that tone
@@lmpuny1013 I wrote the comment above you two months ago, and while my opinion hasn't changed much I'll agree that the older vids were funnier. Smg4 doesn't really look like his old self, but like I said, people change. That's what allowed him to create his animated series and associate with other companies to help him, which I think is great because his work is really entertaining for me.
His new vids are kind of a mess but a lot of that is UA-cam's fault. Memes aren't the only thing that made him funny back then. And why did he need a cast? They could've been their own series, and I bet it would've been amazing. Again I appreciate his creativity and growth but I don't think it'll ever be the same as before.

and honestly, yeah, the memes weren't the only engaging thing in his old videos. i can't point to what exactly made them more engaging but today they feel so forced and clashy with the more story-driven plots that makes you want to care to the characters but it... doesn't work for me. i feel the entire humor doesn't mix weel with these moments. the last i can recall from my terrible memory is those last episodes related to meggy where she has some emotional moments that i already started to feel out of place, then were interrupted by some comedy moment (mario throwing an "after-party" at meggy's house just when she was hopeless about her future iirc, or bob shouting "omg that's a big turtle" at the new meggy show teaser). was i supposed to laugh or be emotional? or both at the same time? 'cause these momments made me cringe
i agree more series with the unique characters would be great (hell despite everything i'm still waiting for a new sonic the derphog episode) but i don't think the modern cast is *that* bad, bob is funny and i bet he'd been as great in the old videos (can't recall when he was introduced) but some characters feel like background characters brought as recurrent ones which works just as i'd expect (filler). some characters also have changed (and i'd say, flanderized), notably smg4 going from the normal self-insert you'd relate to since he's the (only) "normal" one in that world, to just meme addict
though not all of his modern work is that bad for me though; there's some few decent videos (my favourite would be if mario was in among us) and i've heard good things about meta runner (though i've never seen it and have no plans on doing so, sadly)
