    I don't have too many tbrs because I only have room for one bookcase. But in a lot of ways that's a good reason for me to do this, as I can get rid of books I don't like as currently I'm lacking in room to buy new books

    Anxious People was the first book I read by Fredrik Backman, too. I agree with your review where it didn't quite land for me. I did find the commentary on society intriguing, but also it was dragginggggggg. I think the characters were meant to not be liked in the beginning. Another issue I had was talking about people without their names assigned - "a person who does this is like this". I did like the ending.

    I feel like I need to do something like this for myself. I read 50+ books from my owned TBR last year but only 15 were things that had a decent shot at being unhauled. 75% of my reading is the library or scribd which is good for not spending money but not great for getting through my own backlist 🙃 I have a lot of random unread YA and middle grade I bought a decade ago that intrigues me enough to keep but not enough to read apparently 😂

      @stephaniebookish  Рік тому +1

      I can relate! I have a lot of YA that’s been on my TBR for a loooong time! Haha seriously, I have such a hard time letting unread books go yet why is it even harder to read them 😂😭

    I really like this concept to work on your owned tbr! your comments on Anxious People are so accurate. I was shocked at the end that I loved the characters so much and was crying. The TV show expands on the father/son relationship and the difficult relationship with the daughter/sister. 🧟‍♀

    Anxious People is my least favourite Backman book that I have read to date. The writing style in this book is unique it itself and not how he generally writes. Backman likes to write emotional character driven books. I have really enjoyed And Every Morning the way Home gets Longer and Longer, I may like it because I can relate to it though.

    🧟‍♀ I confuse Fredrik Backman with Richard Oseman so maybe that's why??
    I've only read A Man Called Ove by him and that focused solely on one perspective and did not jump around a lot. It took me maybe half the book to get into it, but I did end up liking it, although tw for suicidal ideation and suicide attempts.

    I might be misremembering because I read it at least 4 years ago but I don't think Killers of the Flower Moon is about the Highway of Tears at all.
    Killers of the Flower Moon is about the reign of terror against the Osage in early twentieth century Oklahoma, USA. But it also talks about the origins of the FBI, which I have heard the Osage were frustrated by. I haven't read this because I just heard the title today but during the press conference for the movie _A Pipe for February_ was recommended as a book that covers the Reign of Terror from the Osage perspective.
    Anyway, it's possible the highest of terror gets mentioned, I guess??? But it's certainly not the focus of the book.
    The first season of the CBC Missing and Murdered podcast is about the Highway of Tears though.

    sad there will be no more rating of other people's choices but this is also fun!
    I haven't read Anxious Peoplel though I love Beartown like so many others. I find he has a particular way of framing human emotions and experiences through small, seemingly irrelevant moments that I enjoy.
    I've only read 2 books of my ohysical tbr so far but had better luck with the ratings - Best of All Possible Worlds and Hundred Thousand Kingdoms got four stars each.

    I’m wondering if you meant Seven Fallen Faethers as the book that covers similar subject matter to Highway of Tears? Killers of the Flower Moon is actually about members of the Osage Indian Tribe and the wealth they amassed as a result of the oil-rich lands they were forced to relocate to in Oklahoma. It follows the creation of the FBI as a result of crimes that were committed against Osage tribe members. Anxious People is really unlike the rest of Backman’s books. It’s by far my least favorite book of his due to the humor missing the mark. Beartown and A Man Called Ove are much better places to start and are more poignant.

    • @stephaniebookish
      @stephaniebookish  Рік тому
