3:45 - I understand the temptation to put a kid in a blind and let them play and eat snacks until a turkey arrives, it's probably the most effective way to get a kid a shot at a bird. But looking back at my childhood, I would never have fallen in love with turkey hunting if that's how my mentors introduced me. You're better off getting out and walking around, exploring, covering ground, teaching them about trees and birds and not just sitting in a tent, at least once they're a certain age. They might not kill a bird because they probably can't sit still for long enough, but in the long run it's a much better way to light that fire in them.
I probably sound like a boomer here, but we aren't really doing the future generation any favors if we give them an iPad and let them play until a turkey ends up in the decoys, then give them a gun and tell them to shoot. This is a real soapbox issue for me, because I think we are missing what hunting and time outdoors is really supposed to be if we're letting kids watch movies or play games in a 5x5 box all morning instead of immersing them in the outdoors and teaching them to appreciate it.

Says all you need to know about the NWTF when one of their regional directors doesn’t even know when a poult is able to fly. “Not for a couple months.” Keep up the good work NWTF!

He's the director, not a biologist.

Thought the same thing while listening to the podcast. Not as knowledgeable as you’d expect

Nwtf…for limiting your opportunities with “science” based research. Headquartered in Edgefield SC. We once had a 5 turkey limit for like 30+ years. Now they tell us our numbers are down so we need to push the season back a month and drop the limit to 2. By the way we are for charging for tags but we won’t give incentives for controlling predators nor will we help outlaw strutting decoys.
Nwtf is a joke. Limit reductions don’t do jack for populations and You pushed the season dates once already. 7-8 years of lower limit and later seasons. Did it help?
Cut out decoys, 90% of birds first few weeks are killed with strutter decoys. keep the old turkeys alive so they aren’t having to have a reestablished pecking order every time one gets killed. It will also solve any pressure issues cause the newbies ain’t hunting without a strut decoy. Make SC great again!
