OMG!!! How hilarious Helen is just like a BIG puppy dog with Miah. Can’t wait to see the barn completed. So happy for you guys. Looking forward for all the coming videos.
Our first Nubian milk goat, Bambi, was really a pet. I actually was able to help rear my friend's son, David, who couldn't digest cow's milk, on Bambi's milk. She gave us a dismaying amount of milk. We were almost overwhelmed by the volume. Later on, the person I adopted her from told us she was from the Frosty Marvin line... look it up! Like you, I was totally pleased. We ended up building a small herd of her offspring. .... re your wildlife and habitat loss... we welcome and encourage wildlife to take residence on our little homestead. We recognize that they are an essential puzzle piece to the ecosystem and our survival. I rehabilitate orphaned and injured opossums. Since I have been releasing them on my little suburban homestead, the ticks have vanished. The ticks were so bad when we moved here 8 years ago, I was routinely bitten each summer, and contracted Alpha-gal syndrome. That is a LIFECHANGING disease. Embrace your opossums and other pest-eradicating species.
One of the best design ideas I've seen in a barn was having planks between the stalls that sat in a channel and could be lifted in or out. This way you can double your stall space quickly if you need to, or have room for a skid steer to get in to clean. You should also think about having at least 1 stall with overhead beams to be able to attach a winch or pulley to in case of a down cow. So far..love your barn..great job!!
I was watching this video on my tv and had to log into you tube to comment about getting " u channels". They are a must for any livestock barn. We've used them to open up 2 stalls to make a larger stall for foaling season and then back to 2 stalls after weaning. They are priceless. Just a safety suggestion, when using them, use tongue and groove boards as it helps to keep them more solid and less likely an animal would get a leg caught in a gap from leaning on a board. Barn looks amazeballs! Sooo jealous!! Good luck!
Isn't it Country Supply that sells those channels? Been years since we used them and some are still in place. They rust a little after a few years if you live somewhere with high humidity.
“Pop a squat” 🤣🤣 Our grandson will get up from playing inside and go outside to take care of business. He says, “it’s way easier”! Love being in the country. Your barn is wonderful. Great job designing it Miah.
Of course for boys. The only downfall is if someone ever happens to get dementia later on when old & have to go to a nursing home they continue this behavior inside. Can get really gross.
@@angelaraum1545 Having a composting toilet out there might not be a bad idea for late night delivering (ie., tea and coffee consumption, lol), when a few minutes may make a difference.
I really got a kick out of Helen with Miah and the way she was following and nudging him!! So cute!! I can’t believe it’s that warm there and it’s cold in Phoenix Arizona where I am… Wishing you a happy new year 🎊🎆 and I look forward to watching the farm grow !! I must also say that I love that red barn… can’t wait to see it when Miah gets it all done… by the way, Helen’s trying to tell you she loves the barn too…
Oh man I’d come to the Carolinas or Arizona now and go swimming! Lol I’m in Alberta Canada. We were on the top 5 coldest places in the world a couple days ago. Currently -34c ❤️ gosh I would love to visit the red rocks! The heat! It’s on my bucket list! Happy New Year! 🎇
I’m in Mesa az and wishing we could send some rain to Colorado. I love the barn, sweet Helen seems like she will be a great momma. If your going to ai I guess sexing for female makes sense. Looks like Hope got a little jealous you talking so much about Helen.
Mesa, Arizona here too! LOVING the rain….we don’t get that much, and it gives me a break from watering the garden. About mice and rats, Jack Russell Terriers are really good for ratting. Saw a video where 3 of them were really making short work of killing all of their rats…..and there were a LOT! I’ve had a Parson Jack Russell, best dog I ever had! But their high spiritedness is not for everyone…..and I would think that they would have to be trained from a very small puppy, to not go after chickens or small goats, etc. They are ferocious little dogs. Lots of spunk in a very small package. Not laid back like your larger dogs are. In fact, the Jacks like to tease larger dogs….which is not good. My little eleven and a half pound Jack, was nearly rag-dolled to death by a larger dog that she pestered too much.
The red exterior is gorgeous! It is big and beautiful and so wonderfully thought out. I think that is what always sticks out so much to me-you two make things functional and yet beautiful as well. Love it. Thanks for sharing these adventures with us. Happy New Year.
Aweee Helen is so sweet. I’m so excited about y’all’s new barn. God is truly blessing y’all beyond measure. So amazing how when we Keep our faith and share our knowledge how the good Lord blesses our lives.
I see a “spin-off”, here, to the Roots & Refuge saga: Miah & Helen could do their own “show”…a cow with a crush 🐮 Bless her heart. Think of all the changes she’s been through is a short time. Miah has obviously been a safe harbor for her. Makes me realize that cattle (or cows) are more than beasts-of-burden…they are God’s creatures with a capacity for attachment to another species, even if it might be food driven😁. A year ago, who ever thought that Miah would be an object of affection for a girl named Helen… 😂🤣🥰💕
Helen's got a crush! 😍 I think a t-shirt is in order! Congratulations on the big red barn, you've designed it so thoughtfully, it should serve you well for a long time!
wow, when I you revealed your barn a HUGE smile came across my face. So delighted for you guys. I feel blessed and full of joy getting to seeing God give you a delight of your heart. Thanks for showing us that.
Being at a cows birthing is almost as wonderful as being there to welcome a human baby enter the world! They are such good momma’s and i love them so much! It’s a beautiful experience! I can’t wait to see Helen’s calf!🥰❤️💕
When an animal loves a human, it shows the gentleness that human possesses. Thank you for exampling good stewardship. All critters deserve the love they give in return. 🥰
It speaks well of Miah that Helen cares this much, so quickly. She needs to have trust worth that baby due in just weeks. It is so sweet to watch that passel of animals in the barn following Miah. Just adorable.
Lol, love grass puppy Helen. She is such a sweetheart. That is a beautiful barn, and so functional for the future. I love the idea of a community access milk fridge. Good planning and design Jeramiah!
The extra high side walls will help when it is very hot. This is going to help a lot in the hot summer. Look at the old homes they all have high ceilings for that purpose. The barn is great
Helen is a beauty! So hilarious watching her stalking Miah. Great job designing your barn. Jess, you are so wonderful with all your animals, I know you will handle the precious calf birth with ease. Happy New Year!
Cows are playful. Some bulls too. We kept barrels and bit beach balls for them. I once had a milking Shorthorn cow named Hester that loved playing with my Mom. Mom wasn't a fan. One day Mom had an incident with her new saddle mare (another story) in the same pasture as Hester, who was drying off. Mom removed the tack from her mare and was lugging the saddle and all back towards the barn. Hester came bounding up and bouncing around like a puppy, trying to get Mom to play with her. Maybe she thought the saddle was a play ball, like the ones we gave our livestock in the other pasture? Anyway, Hester was trying to get Mom to play and Mom started running. Hester took that to mean a game of chase was going on, and was in hot pursuit. Mom, all 4 foot zero 99 pounds, didn't like seeing a 1700 pound cow bearing down on her. Mom chucked that saddle as hard as she could towards Hester, turned and pedaled for all she was worth towards the fenceline. I couldn't really do anything, being crippled with laughter and having tears in my eyes. Eventually I turned my little green colt around and headed off Hester, as Mom made it to the gate. I love remembering this story. We buried Mom this past March, and telling stories like this about her help keep her alive. I hope the New Year is as healthy and prosperous for you and yours as the past one has been.
Love the barn! I just want to drop an idea out about unwanted pests and the sort. I'm up in the NC mountains, and as a child I remember owls on the farms I worked on. I am not living on a farm now, but I've researched and built bird boxes designed for specific "yard" birds. It surprisingly worked like magic. Haha, I even did a bat box because we had mosquitos, and it worked. Just thinking out loud :) I love ya'lls content! Thanks for doing what you do
Helen is a good judge of character & she is not afraid to show how she feels. Love is for sharing. What a blessing to have such a beautiful loving farm. I'm happy for your Dream Barn. Looking forward to Helen's calving & the goats kidding for Ben's Birthday. Bright Blessings Always! 🌻
How wonderfully blessed you and the family are!. You've come a long ways. The barn is beautiful and the love between animal and human shows! Especially Miah and Helen 🤣 You're all truly an inspiration!
When we got our first Barn we asked our veterinarian for advice on how to set up our barn. His advice was to put up temporary stalls and live in the barn for a while to make sure it was going to work the way we wanted it. That was the best advice because we ended up putting just a couple of permanent stalls and temporary stalls. So depending upon that time of the year. (kidding season or when my son had shown a steer) we were able to adjust the barn to what we needed at the time.
As someone new to goats and planning a cow in the future, "Left is lunch, right is baby" is probably the best and most memorable statement to help people remember this I've ever heard. I'll probably never forget that, so thank you!
I love that someone else puts as much forethought into things as I do. The one thing I might change is putting cabinets instead of shelves in the milk room, to keep the dust on the supplies to a minimum.
You can't beat true animal love . I was laughing at Miah and Helen so hard I was crying. Love the new barn and all of the plans for the future. In a couple years you will be complaining about not have enough land for your expanding heard of milk cows . HAPPY NEW YEAR !!!!
I love how the dog, goats and cow follow Miah. Helen loves him ! Cool barn design. You thought of everything. Precious boys. Thanks Jess. God bless. Until next time !
How cute is Helen following Miah around. I think she really likes him! Barn looks great and the animals are already checking out their new place. The best thing I like about y’all’s channel is how the two of you dream, plan and work together to achieve your dreams to enrich the lives of your family. Blessings for a new year!
Love the barn! It is going to be so great once the inside is completed. Seems like Helen has a huge crush on Miah, so funny to watch her. Miah will be a great Dad for her calf.
I love seeing how the family is so excited and cant wait to not only make living easier for them but for their animals. Y'all are doing such an amazing job.
The picture of Toby opening the barn door and the sunlight coming in is so awesome! That would make a beautiful picture on a tshirt or magnet. Let God's light shine on you. I love your videos so much! I love your family like my own family. God bless you richly...until the next time :)
Mouse trap boys might like building. 5 gallon bucket, run wire through top of bucket, running it through empty pop can. Place water halfway in bucket. Put peanut butter on can. Place a board stairs for the mice on the outside to one side of wire. They go for the peanut butter, spin and fall in water. The barn is beautiful.
How very exciting! That barn looks amazing! Your joy in all your faces is so heart filling and that cow following Miah- to funny. Your giggle Jess, so heart warming. Thank you for sharing
I love that when I look through the computer window that I get warm fuzzies over the vastness of your property. I live in a neigborhood. I remember watching your old farm videos from AK and now I get this wonderful feeling of freedom seeing all that room for everyone and thing to grow.
Hey Jess, my husband and I would love to help you out if you have any questions or concerns about calving. We milk commercially so some parts of our approach might be a little different, but we do have a lot of experience managing difficult births (as well as the easy ones 😊) We’re both so excited for the journey you and your family are on. We both really want to quit the commercial gig and be doing what you’re doing, it’s so much more sustainable and fulfilling 😊 All the best either way
I love your barn!!! Helen seems so sweet! I love watching your farm come together. Katie looks like she needs a shave and a sweater 🐾💕 I’m so glad Katie got lucky enough to be yours!
What a very well-planned barn. Absolutely love it and can already see your milk shed within the barn and how efficient it will be for you. I foresee lots of vlogs while you're processing your milk, etc. Love the come and grab some milk-fridge for neighbours and friends. I hold out hope for horses for you guys. I know Miah is a horse-guy at heart and who knows what the boys will be into as they grow. Maybe one of them will become a veterinarian?
I love your "Dad measurement" system. I think it will only improve with time as our bodies tend to shrink with age. My Dad was 6'6" and worked well for me as a kid as no matter where we were if I stood on something or at the end of a row all I had to do was scan the tops of heads to find my Dad. He was always the tallest or nearly so and I was never lost or lost track of my family, lol. He shrunk to 6'4" by the time he was 75.
This simple statement: "May all the tears of 2021 be seeds for 2022" is perfect and it really touched my heart. Happy New Year and God bless you, Ashley.
Beautiful barn!!!🎉 This is so exciting to watch you guys & how much you depend on & listen to God to in leading you guys to this new exciting place you can now call home. God bless you, your family & your farm land🙏🏼❤️
The barn is not complete until Sweet Miah make a wooden quilt block to hang over the big doors at each end. Everything is coming together. Sending love and prayers to you all from South Louisiana.
That's warm! Our windchill tonight is -25°to -30° We raise beef cattle and have for 40 years. Calving can be stressful, though you only need to intervene is cow shows stress with labor. It's an amazing experience! We have 9 calves due in the spring🤗 We have everything on hand we would need in the event of cow/heifer assisted birth, including a birthing pen in our pole barn. Even after all these years I still cry tears of joy!
Y'all have come so far, in such a short amount of time! That barn is big, and so well arranged. Helen is beautiful, and I can't wait for you to get to witness a calving. It's a beautiful experience. Hopefully she won't have any trouble, as pulling a calf is never a fun event. Sending positive vibes your way, always!
Congrats on the new barn! A true dream come true for you all, I'm sure! And so well planned and thought out. Can't wait to see Miah work is magic on the inside!!
There is something really cool about getting to watch someone's dreams come true in real time. And as a viewer, getting be a small part of it with ya'll. Happy New Year! ~Kelly
Jess, can I just say you are my best friend in my head. When you said where you going Ben and he said the woods, that would so be a quick exchange between me and my son…if I had one. So I will vicariously live that moment through you…😘😘😘
Wow so beautiful! I couldn’t stop giggling from Miah’s new girlfriend! A fan or two in the ceiling can really help to cool things off a lot. They move slow so mot to stir up dust but really get the air moving through.
I just get such a LOVING kick out of how ENAMORED Ms. Helen is with Miah 😍🤩 Take advantage of that!!! It may come in VERY handy when she calves and when it comes to milking or any other issue, Miah MIGHT be the one to settle or calm her IF it were to come to that- just a thought. Y'all are so blessed. May God continue to bless you.
Your barn is almost exactly like what I have in mind, so obviously I love it! I know you guys don't usually talk about how much things cost people people get mean when you talk money and there's a big difference in prices in different areas but I would appreciate to know what the barn to this point had cost to put up?
Hellen is a sweet big baby so full of love and wanting to be loved on .Most animals are like that if handled with love and kindness. HAPPY NEW YEAR and GOD BLESS EVERYONE
Love your well planned barn, Jess. So happy for Y'all. The person who accused you of killing all of your trees must be flipping out seeing your clear cut trees missing! Lol "Bless his heart"
Helen has the most beautiful face . It is true that sometimes the early peach harvest can be effective by early bloom set. Here in the upstate we aren’t quite as effected by the intermittent warm weather. Can’t wait to see Helens baby 🥰
That love is a T-shirt... "Have you hugged your cow today"? Or, "Miya's MooMoo". Or, "Cows Moov Miya". I'm loving it. Shoot, worth embroidering my own.
I can only reiterate what everyone else has said, Great barn and great job designing it for functionality! To keep rodents out of the feed, we used large metal garbage cans. It worked for things like chicken feeds, goat grains, etc. It might not be practical for the amount of feed you have to store though.
Miah needs a Go pro so we can watch all the grading/ construction projects!! Progress you guys are making is amazing. Would love to see a Roots and Refuge construction channel or a Playlist?
I strongly recommend a barn or two, they are game changers when it comes to rodent control. And trust me we’ve had them chew through plastic, wood and around them to get to the feed. Once we got a cat, nothing! Could have saved me a lot of money and head ache. Hugs and love from Texas!
“Where are you going Ben? To the woods.” Love it when a child saids that.
OMG!!! How hilarious Helen is just like a BIG puppy dog with Miah. Can’t wait to see the barn completed. So happy for you guys. Looking forward for all the coming videos.

Yes! That is a great idea. We had a downed horse that would have benefited from a sling.
That is a nice idea! Could always put spacers in between the planks too to keep the light and ventilation.

Miah peeking around the doorway at Helen at 22:04 would make an excellent sticker! So cute!
Hey Jess, my husband and I would love to help you out if you have any questions or concerns about calving. We milk commercially so some parts of our approach might be a little different, but we do have a lot of experience managing difficult births (as well as the easy ones 😊)
We’re both so excited for the journey you and your family are on. We both really want to quit the commercial gig and be doing what you’re doing, it’s so much more sustainable and fulfilling 😊
All the best either way
Hurray! You have your red barn. Dream come true. A nice cozy place for your animals. ❤️🇨🇦
I love your barn!!! Helen seems so sweet! I love watching your farm come together. Katie looks like she needs a shave and a sweater 🐾💕 I’m so glad Katie got lucky enough to be yours!
Wire it so you can install fans in the ceilings. It really helps with ventilation and air movement, odor control.
That new barn is beautiful. Helen is precious!!
Animals are such a great judge of Character....❤
You have really done your homework on building an efficient Barn everything sounds amazing. Helen is a riot I love her
What a very well-planned barn.
Your barn is perfect! All the planning and waiting has paid off. ❤️
Mia and the cow was so funny! She loves him and I truly believe animals know a good heart!
💋🧚🏻♀️❤️🇺🇸
Love it! May God bless you and your family! May all the tears of 2021 be seeds for 2022
This simple statement: "May all the tears of 2021 be seeds for 2022" is perfect and it really touched my heart. Happy New Year and God bless you, Ashley.
Yes, the BIG RED BARN is beautiful. I know y'all are so happy.
Awww she loves sweet Miah! That’s so lovely 😊
The barn looks great. One suggestion, add ceiling fans. At least 2. They will help circulate the air in the barn greatly!
BIG barn farms are the best too!
I love that barn. Looks like all the animals do too.
Love the barn and how Miah designed it. Helen sure is besotted with Miah lol. The animals are already getting familiar with the barn
Coolers are great for open feed. You don't even need to empty the bag just put a slit in it. Love the barn!
I love the versatility and well thought out multifunctional spaces you've designed into your barn.
~Kelly
Soooo sweet how helen loves Miah. What a cute personality on that cow.
Helen is an adorable stalker cow. 😂🤣😂 I probably only heard half because I was enjoying watching Helen's antics. Love your channel! Happy New Year!!
The barn is looking fabulous.
Helen is turning out to be quite a character. She set her intention; her 5 year youtube plan 😍
The barn looks great and will be so functional.😍
Hellen is a sweet big baby so full of love and wanting to be loved on .Most animals are like that if handled with love and kindness. HAPPY NEW YEAR and GOD BLESS EVERYONE
Jess, my daughter has 2 cats brother and sister 10yo, both fixed, looking to re-house. They have always dreamed of living in the country!
Love your well planned barn, Jess. So happy for Y'all. The person who accused you of killing all of your trees must be flipping out seeing your clear cut trees missing! Lol
"Bless his heart"
Helen has the most beautiful face . It is true that sometimes the early peach harvest can be effective by early bloom set. Here in the upstate we aren’t quite as effected by the intermittent warm weather. Can’t wait to see Helens baby 🥰
So awesome to back ages months and see your dreams coming to life! I so love giggling with you when Hope just wanted Muah time! So sweet!
Be still my heart! What a wonderful barn you have!
Watch out Jess! Helen is giving you some competition! LOL! (I honestly think it's sweet)
Aaaawww Helen is so sweet ❤ awesome barn, great job Miah 👏
Made me laugh as hard as Jess when Helen was after Miah, so cute, she loves him!!
It was cracking me up too! She's a grass puppy! Lol
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Thanks for the tour… it’s a beautiful space!
Congratulations on your new barn! This will be such a blessing to help make your farm functional!
Have you thought about planting a line of pines inside your property line to replace the wind break you lost?
That is so funny the Hope just loves him!!!!
I am not sure I understand what you mean with a "barn or two". It seems that something is missing. "A barn or two" what?
The barn looks good! Love to see it finished and Helen is adorable!
Thank you so much for saying Celsius after your farenheit. It helps us southern hemisphere folk relate. Thanks Jess. Love your new farm.
Beautiful barn!!! Helen is lust with Miah is sooo adorable!!!..shes a glorious cow..
